Abstract

The best program to control the spread of dengue infection is a dengue prevention program. Indonesia has a dengue prevention program known as 3M Plus. Medan City is one of the endemic areas of dengue fever in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and income implementation of the dengue prevention program in Medan. Information on sociodemography, knowledge, attitudes, and implementation of dengue prevention was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire that had been tested previously. This cross-sectional survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews with 100 randomly selected heads of households. Bivariate analysis using chi-square test. The results showed that overall participants had low family income, poor dengue knowledge, moderate attitude and moderate prevention implementation. There was a significant positive relationship between family income and implementation of dengue prevention (p = 0.001), knowledge and implementation of dengue prevention (p = 0.012), and attitudes and implementation of dengue prevention (p <0.001). In conclusion, dengue prevention programs require increased knowledge, attitudes and implementation of dengue prevention. Households with an income below the city minimum wage must be the main target of the dengue prevention campaign. Knowledge-based campaigns and arousing positive attitudes will increase the application of dengue prevention.

Abstract

Soil – Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection is one of the most common infections in the world, especially for the poor society. Worm infections spread through eggs in human feces that contaminate soils where the level of sanitation is bad. Worm infections are widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, one of which is Indonesia. Around 568 million school-age children have high potential for STH because they live in an areas prone to STH infections (WHO, 2017a). Soil Transmitted Helminths Infection is a health problem with a high prevalence in the tropics and subtropics, especially Indonesia. Children with the primary school age are the group that most often suffer from infection because more daily activities are in contact with the soil and in clean living behavior is still low. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between sex and Helminths Infection, nail hygiene and using footwear with the incidence of helminthiasis in students in the city of Sibolga. The results obtained from this study are the number of students infected by helminthiasis by 33.82%, based on male gender as many as 20 students (60.6%) of the 44 students examined and the number of infected women as many as 18 students (39.4 %) of 41 female students examined. The results of the category assessment, for the category of nail hygiene with a good 32.94 percent (28 students) and the category is less good at 67.06 percent (57 people). From the bivariate analysis there was no relationship between sex and helminthiasis. The results of nail hygiene analysis, there is a significant relationship between nail hygiene with helminthiasis infection with a value of p = 0.009 and the value of the prevalence ratio of 2.751. Analysis using footwear, there is a significant relationship between the habit of using footwear with helminthiasis infection with a value of p = 0.004 with a prevalence ratio value of 3.195. From the results of the multiple logistic regression test, the most influential value between nail hygiene and using footwear is using footwear with a p value = 0.009 with a constant value of 3.410.

Abstract

The development of architecture along with the development of situations and conditions that exist in the community. In this postmodernism era, architectural design is not only based on one paradigm, but is more free to choose the architectural design figure that will be achieved. The development of this infinite design can be studied or appreciated through a communication approach between an architectural object and an observer. The architectural design of this era can have different meanings among observers. This proves that the communication system does not guarantee the meaning of a building. This system only runs that the building can be interpreted based on a communication system in the form of a sign like the one in Semiotics. Using qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods in seeing the current development of architecture. This gives the conclusion that architectural design not only has a meaning but many meanings in accordance with the design paradigm used.

Abstract

This study is designed to investigate the epidemiology of stroke burden in Western Delta Region of Nigeria. To achieve this, statistical tools were used to analyze and interpret the prevalence of this diseases in the study area- with focus on the medical records (case files) of hundred and twenty-one (221) patients who suffered from stroke and were seen at selected government hospitals in the region, from 2003- 2016. The clinical episodes (CEs) of stroke for the patients who were admitted during acute care period (without discharge against medical advice) and were then assessed for various investigations and treatment interventions and long term care were obtained and statistically studied. The Kaplan-Meier survival estimator shows the survival rate to be 75% in 2003 and 25% in 2016. The year 2009 recorded the highest CEs (28) with survival function (0.23) and 2014 the lowest (4) with survival function (0.11). These have implications for all stakeholders in health matters in the study area. The study recommends an organized effort from both the government and the private sector to tackle the rising stroke burden in Western Delta Region of Nigeria.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to compare the effect of creatine and thiamine supplementation on heart rate recovery (HRR) and blood lactate levels. Twelve male students comprised the two experimental (creatine and thiamine) groups of the study. The creatine group was supplemented with 0,3 g per weight, with 30 ml of water per dose of creatine four times a day, at regular intervals during the day, for 6 consecutive days. The thiamine group received 10 mg per weight just one time 30 minutes after a meal with 150 ml of water at the last supplementation days. After the supplementation period, subjects completed the incremental treadmill after a dynamic warm-up that consisted of walking at 6 km/h for 3 minutes. An initial treadmill speed started with 8,64 km/h for two minutes at 0% gradient followed by an increase of 1,44 km/h every 30 s until subjects reached their volitional exhaustion. After exercise cessation subjects continued with an active recovery of 10.08 km/h for approximately 5 minutes. Heart rate (HR) was regularly assessed from the first 5 min of passive recovery. Blood lactate levels were measured in the 9th min of passive recovery. There were no statistically significant differences in heart rate recovery and blood lactate levels after supplementation, respectively (P > 0.05). Based on these results, it appears that creatine supplementation did not provide a different effect with thiamine on the recovery of heart rate and blood lactate levels.
