Abstract

Mango peel (Mangfera indica L.) has many pharmacological effects as a traditional medicine. Therefore, standardization of mango peel simplisia needs to be done as a preparation of phytopharmaca raw material. This research aimed to obtain standardization of mango peel simplisia include specific and non-specific parameter. The research procedures include plant determination, simplisia preparation as well as specific standardization test (includes organoleptic, water-soluble compound concentration, and ethanol solution compound concentration) and nonspecific standardization test (includes moisture content, dried shrinkage, total ash content and acid insoluble ash content). The specific organoleptic parameters of dried mango peel simplisia have a distinctive sweet aroma, bitter taste, and brownish yellow colour. Water-soluble and ethanol-soluble concentrations are 22,36% ± 1,17% and 9,56% ± 0,07%. Moisture content is 9,09% ± 1,44%. Dried shrinkage rate is 0,19% ± 0,04%. Total ash and acid insoluble ash contents are 4,11% ± 0,10% and 0,14% ± 0,03%. The mango peel simplisia has met the quality standard of the raw material.

Abstract

Green tea is a kind of plant that have an active polyphenol substance. Polyphenol is a group of compounds that has a role as a natural antioxidant. Solvent comparison used affects the extracted polyphenol content. This study aims to compare the total polyphenol content in green tea from maceration method with solvent concentration variation of 30%, 50%, and 70%. In this research, green tea is extracted by using the maceration method with ethanol – water solvent concentration of 30%, 50%, and 70%. The total polyphenol content determination in green tea was conducted by using the Follin-Ciocalteu method by UV-Vis spectrophotometre, and using gallic acid as a standard. According to this research, the yield calculation of ethanol extract in green tea with the ethanol concentration of 30%, 50%, and 70% are 41.220%; 39.979 %; and 47.971 %. The total polyphenol content test of green tea with the ethanol concentration of 30%, 50%, and 70% are 11.294 mg GAE/100 g; 16.377 mg GAE/100g; and 15.640 mg GAE/100 g. The anova statistical analysis result shows that there is a significant difference of total polyphenol content of green tea extract with ethanol concentration 30% and 50%, also there is no significant difference in the ethanol concentration of 70%. The highest result of total polyphenol of green tea extract with the ethanol concentration of 50%. It is suggested to conduct a further study on the type of the polyphenol substance in green tea.

Abstract

Cestrum nocturnum with white flowers has potential as a medicine, so it is possible that yellow, red and purple flowering plants also have bioactivity. Toxicity tests on plants can increase research on new sources of ingredients for food additives, drugs, pesticides, etc., so as to find the prospective economic value of these plants and maintain plant biodiversity. The aims of this research were to determine the differences in the toxicity of terpasan leaves (Cestrum elegans) of yellow, red and purple flowers. Steps of this research were made the simplicial of terpasan leaves, phytochemical screening, and toxicity test using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The yield of ethanol extract terpasan leaves with yellow, red and purple was 16.58%, 22.06% and 22.14%, respectively. The results of phytochemicals screening of three types terpasan leaves using the third tube method attached contain secondary metabolites of alkaloids and terpenoids. Based on the toxicity test with the BSLT method using a variation of 150; 200; 250; 300 and 350 ppm mortality percentages were 0.77%, 5.71%, 8.64%, 22.38% and 42.3%. The C50 of the red-pressed ethanol extract was 458.00 ppm, the LC50 of the purple-pressed ethanol extract was 180.127 ppm, the LC50 of the yellow-pressed ethanol extract is 30 – 200 ppm. Conclusion:Based on the LC50 value, the ethanolic extract of the yellow and red leaves has activity as a pesticide, because it has an LC50 value of 200 -1000ppm. The ethanolic extract of purple terpasan leaves has antimicrobial activity because it has an LC50 value of 30-200 ppm

Abstract

Soursop Mountain (Annona montana Macf.) is a tropical plant that is used as an antioxidant in the form of terpenoid. The mountain soursop fruit that is extracted its juice can be processed into a snack in the form of nata due to its high fibbers content in its fruit. With the addition of Acetobacter xylinum, a layer of cellulose will be formed as a result of fermentation. This study aims to determine the chemical quality of nata de Annona montana with the addition of sprout juice. The data obtained were analysed by the one way ANOVA. This study consists of two stages. First, nata preparation with the addition of sprout juice of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Second, the chemical quality testing which includes the protein content, fat content, water content, ash content and carbohydrate level according to SNI No 01-4317-1996 on the Nata De Coco requirement. The chemical quality testing result on nata de Annona montana shows an increase in its quality with the addition of 30% of sprout juice with a value of 0.8479% of protein content, 1.044% of fat content, 97.53% of moisture content, 13.17% of ash content, and 12.09% of carbohydrate level. In conclusion, the sprout juice has an effect on the chemical characteristics of nata de Annona montana. The best result is obtained at a sprout concentration of 30%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of self-medication sales of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs at Mida Farma I Drugstore Gresik. It is conducted by using the observational method with data collection and observation on the Non-Steroid Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) stock cards in February 2020 at Mida Farma I Drugstore Gresik. The results show that the highest sales profile is the non-selective group of 87.68%, then the second is the COX-2 selective group of 12.32%. The most sold drug is ibuprofen of 20% and the lowest sold one is Aspirin of 14%. The pharmacokinetics of ibuprofen are it absorbs very quickly through the stomach; has a maximum plasma level that has reached 1 to 2 hours; and has low side effects

Abstract

Breast cancer is one type of malignant diseases with a high incidence both in Indonesia and in the world. It is the number one killer in Indonesia. Chemotherapy, as a method used in the breast cancer treatment, causes side effects that can interfere the quality of life of breast cancer patients. This study aims to determine the type of chemotherapy drugs, the combination of chemotherapy drugs in a prescription, and the dose of chemotherapy drugs at Lavalette Hospital. This study is descriptive research. It was conducted by collecting 100 sheets of breast cancer chemotherapy prescriptions in November 2020 as samples. Findings specify that the types of chemotherapy drugs for breast cancer that are often prescribed are cyclophosphamide 29%, docetaxel 19% and paclitaxel 17%. Combination of chemotherapy drugs that is often written down is the combination of 2 drugs of TdC (docetaxel cyclophosphamide) 36% and TpCar (paclitaxel, carboplatin) 33%. The dose writing for all types of drugs has been reviewed according to the patients’ weight, height and age.

Abstract

Empirically, selada air has a potency as a vegetable rich in antioxidants, but there has been no study of the antioxidant activity potency of selada air simplisia maceration with water-ethanol combination solvent. This study aims to determine the optimization of yield and antioxidant activity (IC50 value) of selada air simplisia maceration using ethanol-water combination solvent. The method of this research is the determination of the yield and IC50 value using the DPPH method from the maceration of selada air using a water-ethanol combination solvent (96, 70, 30 and 0%). The yields of selada air simplisia maceration with water-ethanol combination solvent (96, 70, 30 and 0%) are 9.25±1.62%, 15.63±1.25%, 23.63±2.38% and 19.99±3.82%. The IC50 values ​​are 613.77±1.90 ppm, 190.892±5.41 ppm, 350.78±1.77 ppm, and 2418.59±137.80 ppm. In conclusion, the optimal yield of maceration result is shown by the water-ethanol combination solvent of 30% (23.63%) and the optimal IC50 value is shown by the water-ethanol combination solvent of 70% (190.892 ppm).

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition that occurs due to the increased level of glucose in the blood. There are 10.70 million Indonesian people who have been diagnosed with diabetes, so Indonesia is ranked 7th among 10 countries with the highest number of diabetes sufferers. In long-term diseases such as diabetes mellitus, the compliance of drug use is one of the determinants for the success of therapy. This study aims to observe at the description of the use of oral antidiabetes drugs in DM patients at the Rampal Assistance Hospital, Malang. This research is descriptive research with a cross section approach. Data were collected using a Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) questionnaire of 30 respondents. Data analysis was performed statistically, presented in the form of a percentage. Based on the results of the study, the level of compliance on the use of oral antidiabetes drugs at Rumkitban Rampal on April 2021 is 3 respondents (10%) of low compliance, 16 respondents (53.33%) of moderate compliance and 11 respondents (36.67%) of high compliance. Characteristics of patients that have a significant relationship with the level of compliance are the level of education, employment status, and the presence or absence of comorbidity. While the patient's age, gender, length of suffering and number of drugs used do not have a significant relationship with the level of compliance. Abstract

Whitening cream is a product that is used on the outside of the body to lighten or change the color of the skin. Whitening cream contains chemicals that are harmful to the skin, such as mercury, hydroquinone, and retinoic acid. Retinoic acid belongs to a group of drugs that are prohibited because it can cause dry skin, burning and teratogenicity. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the retinoic acid in whitening cream. This study aims to determine the content of retinoic acid in night whitening cream. The samples in this study were 5 night whitening cream products marketed in Malang. Qualitative test of retinoic acid was performed by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) with silica gel 60F 254 nm as a stationary phase and n-hexane: acetone (6:4) as a mobile phase, and quantitative test using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The observation result on TLC shows dark blue spots when viewed under UV light at 254 nm with Rf values for samples B, D, and E of 0.487; sample C of 0.425; while the Rf value of the comparison standard is 0.500. The quantitative test indicates 4 samples of night whitening cream contain retinoic acid; 0.165% in sample B, 0.060% in sample C, 0.125% in sample D, and 0.151% in sample E. In conclusion, samples B, C, D and E do not meet the BPOM requirements because they are sold freely without a doctor's supervision.

Abstract

Anti-acne cream is a type of cosmetics that is often used for skin care. Salicylic acid is often used as the active substance in this anti-acne cream. According to the Indonesian National Food and Drug Agency in 2019 on cosmetics, salicylic acid is allowed in cosmetics if it is not more than 2%. In this study, 6 types of anti-acne cream, from Tajinan Market, Malang Regency, were tested with the aim of studying the content of salicylic acid in anti-acne cream products. The test was performed qualitatively using a colour test with FeCl3 reagent (a positive reaction show a purple colour) and a thin layer chromatography (TLC) method using a solvent mixture of ethyl acetate;methanol;ammonia (8:1.90:0.10) as the mobile phase. Quantitative determination of the content was performed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The qualitative test with the colour test indicates that samples A and E are positive for containing salicylic acid. The results of the thin layer chromatography (TLC) test indicates that sample A is positive for containing salicylic acid with an Rf value of 0.66, which is the same as the comparison standard. The quantitative test with UV-Vis spectrophotometry indicates that the salicylic acid content in sample A is 2.516%, sample D is 1,400%, and sample E is 1.646%. In conclusion, only cream of sample A do not meet the requirements of the Indonesian National Food and Drug Agency because it has a salicylic acid content of more than 2%.
