Abstract

Since archaeological excavations were carried out from 1977 to 1993 at the Plawangan site located on the coastal community of Plawangan Village, archaeologists suspected that this site was once a necropolis (a burial place from the first century AD). This research aims to explore the public seaside cemeteries in Plawangan Village, Kragan District, Rembang Regency, Central Java based on their necronym pattern (naming of a cemetery). This research also seeks to reveal further the existence of public seaside cemeteries in Plawangan Village during modern times by examining the collective memories and meanings of local inhabitants for the names of cemeteries. In this research, the data were collected from interviews using the Cakap Semuka Method by applying Rekam Catat Techniques, namely Migit, Mbedhodo, and Pohlendeh cemeteries. By utilizing a qualitative approach and descriptive method, the writer analyzed seaside necronyms based on Nyström's Theory of Presuppositional Meanings, namely categorical, associative, and emotive meanings. Categorically, the seaside cemeteries of Plawangan Village were influenced by myth and flora categories. From the morphophonemic process, the forms of seaside necronym are pre-fixations, ellipsis, and verb phrases. Meanwhile, based on identification of associative and emotive meanings show interesting findings about the meanings and perceptions of nowadays society regarding the reasons why there are public cemeteries were located near the beach, such as: (1) choosing the location of a public cemeteries near beach because it follows the past burial methods archaeological sites in coastal sandy soil which are believed to be able to preserve bones longer than other types of soil, (2) traces of the spread of Islam, (3) myths in society, (4) loss of the haunted impression of each grave, and (5) the haul tradition of respected religious figures.

Abstract

Communication through digital media has a broad impact on religious life. Posting prayers on an online platform is one of the issues that have arisen. However, no research from a pragmatic perspective has been found that specifically addresses this phenomenon. Therefore, this research was conducted to (1) describe the strategies of speech acts in prayer on YouTube comments, and (2) describe their functions in the social context.  This research is a qualitative-descriptive study. The data were obtained from two videos entitled "Muzammil Hasballah Juz 30 Full" and ”Dosa yang Lebih Besar 1000X dari Zina". This research reveals that generally the prayers uttered contain requests of kindness for the speaker himself and for the others. Even though they are produced in imperative form, the prayers written in the comment section function as a representative and expressive speech act. Therefore, it can be concluded that prayers in the youtube comments  firmly function as a social expression to show religious identity and solidarity of the internet users to the online community.

Abstract

One technology that is currently gaining traction is Augmented Reality (AR). Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology used to combine the virtual world and the real world, this system is closer to the real environment, so that the boundary between them becomes thin. Augmented Reality serves the purpose of developing new technology that allows for real-time interaction. This technology allows users to view 3D objects in real time by using a smartphone. Based on observations and feedback from students during the process of learning English at a private school, students believe that the education they receive is inadequate because it is solely based on text/modules. Teaching modules often used are only material summaries, besides that the availability of authentic materials is very limited. As a result of this, a new interactive learning medium based on Augmented Reality has been developed to teach and learn English in the ESP curriculum for Jasmani students. The goal of this research is to learn about students’ perceptions of Phisyc Education toward Augmented Reality-based learning media in English. According to the findings of the study, 93% of the population is interested in using Augmented Reality applications, and this include in category as very agree.

Abstract

As a reference source, dictionaries play a major role in providing linguistic information to the speech community as accurately as possible. One of which is the standard form. The use of the standard words required for formal situations and official communication demands the establishment of standard and consistent rules. This study aims to identify and describe the standard spelling inconsistencies caused by anaptyxis, or the addition of the vowel sound /ə/ in KBBI or the Fifth Edition of the Big Indonesian Dictionary (2018). This mixed research refers to the application of dictionaries as a result of codification (Kaplan & Baldauf, 1997) and the use of existing dictionaries as a data source for lexicography (Lauder, 2010). The note-taking method is used to analyze a research data sample of 40 standard and non-standard words in KBBI. The results showed that there are two types of standard spellings based on the presence or absence of the vowel /ə/ anaptyxis between the consonant clusters. The first type is the standard form, which contains anaptyxis, and the second type is the standard form, which does not contain anaptyxis. The first type dominates the data by 57.5% and shows that the Indonesian standard spelling is dominated by forms that insert the vowel /ə/ between the consonant clusters. The second type, whose standard form does not contain anaptaxis, can be seen in the nine categories of consonant clusters, with /tr/, /st/, and /sp/ as the most dominant consonant clusters. These findings indicate that there is a discrepancy in the rules of standard form when standardization is truly needed to direct speech community to be able to use the language according to the rules.

The Korean Wave or the Korean Cultural Wave is a term used to describe the rapid spread and popularity of Korean culture and entertainment. Pop music called K-Pop is one of the Korean Wave products that is in great demand by millennials. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach with document data collection techniques. While the data analysis technique used is content analysis technique. The results of the study show that there are several languages in the register used by K-Popers, including Indonesian, English and Korean. These registers are categorized into four characteristics, namely (1) characteristics of the acronym form register, (2) changes in meaning, (3) single, and (4) complex. The researcher found a code switching phenomenon at the word level. Some of the registers used are a combination of English and Indonesian. English seems to be more mastered or dominating than Indonesian and Korean. This shows that Indonesian is weaker because it is not used massively. This phenomenon seems to be taken for granted by K-Pop fans, even though this is not the native language that is usually used in daily activities. Abstract

Language is an example of a characteristic form of a country. This is because a language will reflect the culture of a country, so if you are studying a language, the culture behind that language must also be studied. Analyzed with expressive speech act theory from Searle (1969), this research focuses on the expressive speech acts used by Rosa, who is a South Korean citizen who has lived in Indonesia for a long time, and Amelia Tantono and Adelyn Yunita, who are Indonesian citizens who have lived in South Korea for a long time in the video “The Shocking Difference Between Indonesian And Korean Bathing Culture” which was uploaded by the Rosakis YouTube channel. This study aims to identify the dominant expressive speech acts used by the three people in discussing the same topic through a cross-cultural pragmatic perspective. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that expressive speech acts of lamentation and acceptance are the two dominant types of speech acts used because if an individual lives in a country that is not his origin, he will go through a phase of lamentation and finally a phase of acceptance of the culture that occurs in the country he lives in.
