Abstract

The importance of STEM education has been recognized for preparing diverse students to cultivate future job opportunities in STEM, and for a nation as a whole for technological innovation and national prosperity and security (Li, Schoenfeld, Disessa. 2019). The STEM approach requires the right learning model to be able to achieve learning objectives. One of the learning models that can be used with STEM is PjBL (Project Based Learning). Project-Based Learning (PjBL) is a learning model that teaches concepts in the curriculum through a student-centered project so that they can work autonomously, collaboratively and through assignments. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is learning that integrates the concepts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students are able to apply STEM knowledge practically and produce meaningful learning through PjBL activities. Combining PjBL with STEM has an influence on students' attitudes towards future career pursuits (Tseng, Chang, Lou, Chen. 2013).

Abstract

This study aimed to knowing and describe students' mathematical representation skills in solving relational and function problems for class VIII in academic year 2021/2022. The research method used was descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The instruments used were mathematical representation ability tests and interview. The research subjects were students VIII C with 30 students who were given a mathematical representation ability test grouped into high, medium, and low categories based on their mathematical ability. From each category, 2 students were selected to be interviewed further. In general, from the test results, students with high mathematical representation abilities have been able to achieve indicators of mathematical representation abilities with an achievement percentage of 82.63% which is very good. Students with moderate mathematical representation skills with an achievement percentage of 51.26%, which is sufficient. and students with low mathematical representation skills with an achievement percentage of 25.95%, which is less. From the results of interviews, students with high mathematical mathematical representation abilities were able to explain the answers to the test results very well. Students with moderate mathematical representation skills are quite able to explain their answers well. Students with low mathematical representation ability are able to explain the answer but the explanation given is less detailed.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the ability to understand mathematical concepts and numerical abilities on the ability to solve story problems. The study is ex-post facto with a quantitative approach. The population in this study was class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Kopang. The number of samples as many as 36 students were taken by simple random sampling technique. The data collection technique is in the form of a test. The data obtained were analyzed using a prerequisite test analysis, namely normality test, linearity test, multicollinearity test and heteroscedastic test then continued with hypothesis testing, namely simple and multiple linear regression analysis. The results of data analysis show: 1) the level of relationship between the ability to understand mathematical concepts and students' ability to solve story problems is in the very strong category because the correlation coefficient is 0.844 and there is a significant positive effect with a contribution of 71.2%; 2) the level of relationship between numerical ability and students' ability to solve story problems is in the strong category because the correlation coefficient is 0.726 and there is a significant positive effect with a contribution of 52.6%; 3) the level of relationship between the ability to understand mathematical concepts and numerical abilities with students' ability to solve story problems is in the very strong category because the correlation coefficient is 0.869 and there is a significant positive effect with a contribution of 75.6%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Thinking Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) learning model on the mathematical problem solving abilities of eighth grade students of SMP. This research is a quasi-experimental research with Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP. In determining the sample, the saturated sample technique was used, where the samples in this study were class VIII-A as the control class and class VIII-B as the experimental class. The instrument used in this research is a test of mathematical problem solving ability on number pattern material. Quantitative data analysis was performed using a gain t-test. The results of data analysis obtained thitung = 2.14 and ttable = 2.064 so that thitung > ttable then H0 is rejected which indicates that there are differences in students' mathematical problem solving abilities between classes that receive TAPPS learning and direct learning. This shows that learning with the TAPPS model has an effect on the mathematical problem solving abilities of eighth grade students of SMP. The influence of the application of the Thinking Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) learning model on the mathematical problem solving ability of class VIII students at SMP on the number pattern material using the effect size formula (d) is 1.907, which means that the effect given has a high category.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' thinking levels based on Van Hiele's theory on quadrilaterals and triangles material in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII H SMP Negeri 1 Wanasaba. The instruments used are cognitive style tests, geometry tests, and interviews. The results showed that the cognitive style of students in class VIII H of SMP Negeri 1 Wanasaba was generally dominated by students with reflective and impulsive cognitive styles, 71.9% greater than students with fast accurate and slow inaccurate cognitive styles, namely 28.1%. Students with reflective cognitive style are generally at the analysis level (level 1). Reflektive students are able to identify the shapes of quadrilaterals and triangles, are able to determine the names of a quadrilateral and triangular shapes, are able to determine the properties and similarities of the properties. Students with impulsive cognitive style are generally at the visualization level (level 0). Impulsive student at this level are able to identify rectangular and triangular and are able to determine the names of flat shapes correctly but not yet complete.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical representation ability based on the learning styles of students for 11th grade of senior high school 4 Praya Academic year 2020/2021. Type of research used descriptive research with a quantitative approach. In determining the sample used purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study was 60 students of class XII MIPA 4 and XII MIPA 6 SMAN 4 Praya. According results of the research, the conclusion was mathematical representation ability of students with visual learning style reach 51.59 in very low category. The mathematical representation ability of students with auditory learning style reach 64.29 in medium category. The mathematical representation ability of students with kinesthetic learning styles reach 49.89 in very low category. The mathematical representation ability of students with auditory learning style has highest category than students with visual and kinesthetic learning styles.

Abstract

Kemampuan literasi matematika dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah merupakan kemampuan yang sangat penting dalam pendidikan Matematika. Literasi matematika secara konseptual memiliki keterkaitan dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini yaitu untuk mengkaji defenisi literasi matematika dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah berdasarkan literatur dan mengkaji keterkaitan dari kedua kemampuan matematis tersebut. Metode dalam penulisan artikel ini yaitu menggunakan metode studi literatur. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengkaji artikel, makalah konferensi dan juga buku yang terkait. Dari 40 artikel awal, hanya ada 32 artikel yang sesuai kriteria yaitu terbitan 10 tahun terakhir dan juga terindeks Sinta atau Scopus. Dari hasil kajian, disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah merupakan komponen kompetensi dalam literasi matematika. Sehingga keberadaan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dalam individu akan mempengaruhi kemampuan literasi matematika.

Abstract

This article presents the development of instructional design in conditions of online learning following the Dick, Carey & Carey model on the topic of statistics for 7th grade of junior high school students in the 2nd semester. The material that will be discussed is presenting data. The instructional design was developed based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), using Project-based Learning aided Microsoft Excel and Edmodo as a Learning Management System (LMS). The development begins with identifying and analyzing learning and students’ characteristics. Performance objectives, instrument assessment, development of learning strategies, formative and summative evaluation plans are also discussed in detail and in harmony with each other. At the end, we discuss things that must be considered in the implementation process.
