Abstract

Probiotics are cultures of microorganisms included in the diets of cattle through mixing to ensure the  availability  of  a  population  of  organisms  in  the  gut.  The  culture  contains  a  specific  bacterium, resistant in dry situations. Probiotics may contain one or more strains of microorganisms in the form of powder, tablets, granules or paste and can be given to livestock is directly through the mouth or mixed with water and feed. Probiotic products in general form of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), and some of the genus Bacillus,  but not  all  types  of Lactic Acid Bacteria  and Bacillus  included  in  probiotic  bacteria. Lactobacillus  casei  and  Lactobacillus  acidophilus  reported  to  act  as  probiotics  and  to  increase  body weight  in  chickens.  Similarly,  Bacillus  circulans  and  Bacillus  Sp  isolated  from  the  digestive  tract Kerinci local ducks can be used as a source of probiotics on chickens and ducks and effective for use as a substitute  for  antibiotics. This  study  aimed  to determine  the  type  and distribution of the  dominant  microbes  in  each  segment  of  the  digestive  tract  of  chickens  reared  in  peatlands,  through  isolation technique,  identification  and  selection,  and  testing  probiotic  properties,  including  resistance  to  acid, resistance  to  bile  salts  and  koagregasi  test  between  microbes.  Results  Identification  of  the  chicken digestive  tract  bacteria  dipe;  ihara  in  peatlands  obtained  Lactobacillus  acidophilus  and  Lactobacillus fermentum. The test results obtained on the nature of the two types of probiotic bacteria were resistant to a pH ranging  from pH 2.0 to pH 4, for 14 hours of incubation, that was resistant to bile salts up to 14 hours of incubation and hade a positive coaguration. In conclusion, probiotics production is expected to be applied to poultry, especially chickens.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the use of the number of somatic cell  and of bacteria in milk and California Mastitis Test for the detection of mastitis in PE goat. 425 samples of milk from PE goats are kept  in  individual  cages and milked twice daily study used  in this study.   Before milking, goat udder was cleaned and greased with antiseptic (alcohol 70%) to kill bacteria that living on the teats and goat udders. SCC was observed  in the  stable, while milking. the number  of somatic cells and of bacteria of milk  samples of 150 ml took  into the cool-flask, and  laboratory analysis was done. The results  showed that there releathionship between somatic cell count, the number of bacteria and california mastitis milk tets  in  the detection of mastitis  in PE goats. The average SCC of PE goats was 288.1 x 103 cells  / ml with a range between 28.0 x 103 cells to  1991.7 x 103 cells / ml. The average number of bacteria in the milk of this study wss 537.9 x 103 cells / ml with a range between 66.5 x 103 and 2201 x 103 cells / ml milk. The average number of bacteria in the milk of this study was 537.9 x 103 cells / ml with a range between 66.5 x 103 and 2201 x 103 cells / ml milk. And the average score of CMT research was 2.34.  In conclusion, the use of somatic cell counts, bacterial counts and California mastitis test in goat milk can be used for the detection of mastitis in P E goats.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to study effect of using fermented copra meal with ragi tape in ration  to  replace  of  commercial  feed  diets  on  broiler  performance. One  hundreds  of  broiler  Lohman strain aged a week were randomly assigned to five dietary treatments. The treatments were consisted of two levels of copra meal without fermentation (BKTF) and two levels of copra meal with fermentation of ragi  tape  (BKFRT)  to  replace of part of  commercial  feed diets  (RK) and one  of dietary  treatment was without copra meal as a control. They were R0 = 100 percent of commercial feed diets as a control (RK); R1 = 10 percent of BKTF + 90 percent of RK; R2 = 20 percent of BKTF + 80 percent of RK; R3 = 10 percent of BKFRT + 90 percent of RK; dan R4 = 20 percent of BKFRT + 80 percent of RK.  The chicks were  fed  for  four weeks. At  the  end  of  experiment,  two  broilers  from  each units were  slaughtered  to measure  carcass  weight.  Data  from  completely  randomized  design  were  subjected  to  ANOVA  and different  among  treatments were  further  analyzed using Tukey  test. Parameters  of  the  research were feed consumption, average body weight gain, feed conversion, final body weight and carcass weight. The result of  the experiment  showed that using of copra meal with or without  fermentation used ragi tape  in broiler diets to replace commercial  feed diets were no significant effect on feed consumption, average body  weight  gain,  final  body  weight  and  carcass  weight,  but  they  had  signifacant  effect  on  feed conversion. Using of copra meal in broiler diets with or without fermentation of ragi tape (BKFRT and BKTF) at level of 20 percent were increase feed conversion. The result concluded that using copra meal in  broiler  diets with  or without  fermentation  of  ragi  tape  could  application  at  level  of  10  percent  to replace  commercial  feed  diets,  and  fermentation  of  copra  meal  used  of  ragi  tape  had  no  significant improvement on broiler performance.

Abstract

Increased  socio-economic  demands  has  elevated  the complexity  of  family  needs.  To fulfill all these needs, women  should  participate  in making  a  living.  This  study  aimed  to  look  at  the economic performance of women in small business, particularly in-cart-fried-chicken business; identify the constraints faced and provide an alternative to overcome the constraints. The study was conducted by  survey method with respondents  of  in-cart-fried-chicken  seller  on  some market  centers  in Padang city. The sample is determined by proportional allocation of 15 people, meanshile the data were analyzed using descriptive analysis method. The results of research is that the economic performance of women in this business is quite low with 5.07 working hours per day. Approximately 32.5% of all those business- women participate in all activities from planning to marketing. This business is potential enough to be developed, with an average  income  level of USD 92,259.58 per day and approximately 1.29 R/C  ratio. Internal  constraints  faced  by  these  women is the  pattern  of  relations  in  the  family  that marginalize women's role in meeting the economic needs of families, while the external constraint is the difficulty to seek  additional  capital  for  business development and fluctuations  in  the price of  chicken as main  raw material. An alternative that  can be offered  is to open a branch business at home  for women  to devote more time, and access to soft loans which apply an unheavy terms. The conclusion of the research was that  women  had  roles in  making  a  living  for  the  family,  however,  the  role  is  low  because there were patriarchi values as internal constraints and capital as the main external constraint. The solution  is to find for a soft loan and establish good relationships with suppliers of raw materials.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate ammoniated corn husk  in vitro digestibility in  cattle  ration.   Measured  parameters  in  the  current  experiment were    in vitro  digestibility  of     dry matter, organic matter,  crude  protein.  This  study was  assigned  into  completely  randomized  design  (CRD) with  5  treatments  and  4  replications. The  treatments were  ; T0 =  70% Forage  (100%  grass +  0% ammoniation of  Corn husk) + 30 % Concentrate,  T1 = 70% Forage (75 % grass + 25% ammoniation of Corn husk) + 30 % Concentrate, T2 = 70% Forage (50% grass + 50% ammoniation of Corn husk) +  30 %  Concentrate,  T3  =  70%  Forage  (25%  grass  +  75%  ammoniation  of  Corn  husk)  +  30 % Concentrate, T4 = 70% Forage (0% grass + 100% ammoniation of Corn husk) + 30 % Concentrate.  Result of this study showed  that the treatments were  significantly (P<0,05) influence digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and crude protein. Increased level of   ammoniated corned corn husk made higher  in  vitro  digestibility  of  ration.    It  concluded  that  ammoniation  of    corn  husk  could    increase digestibility and th eammoniated  corn husk  may substitute forage in cattle ration.

Abstract

The  research  was  conducted  to  evaluate  the  effects  of  domestication  of  Sambar  deer  (Cervus unicolor)  on  performance  and  hematological  values.  One  captive  Sambar  deer  was  housed  in  an individual cages fitted on a slatted floor of 2 x 3 m2 . The diet was consisted of field grasses, legume and forages  given  ad  libitum  and  sweat  potatoes.  The  data  were  collected  during  a  two-month  period following a one-month adaptation period; The feed and the residues were collected daily, and the blood samples for hematological values were collected via jugular vein. The data were obtained three times; at the beginning (0 month), in the middle (1 month), and in the end (2 months) of the trial. The performance results showed  that BW  in  the  three respective  times were 12.17, 15.60 and 19.40 kg; ADG in  the  first and the second month respectively ware 115 dan 127 gr/d; Total of DM consumption were 987 and 1216 gr/d;  and  the  percentage  of DM/BW  were  6,33  dan  6,27%.  The  following  averages  of  hematological values were obtained: erythrocytes 8,4, 7,9 dan 7,9 million/ml;  Hemoglobin 11,4, 11,2 and 13,2 gr/100 ml;    PCV  0,62,  0,57  and  0.50%;  Leukosytes  14750,  11547  and  9721/ml;  pH  7,34,  7,45  and  7,40, respectively.  Finally,  Sambar  deer  as  the  wild  animals  have  prospective  values  when  they  are domesticated and intensively cared.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the amount of total and coliform bacteria in sludge from the process of forming  a mixture  of  biogas  feces  of  beef  cattle  and  horse  feces. The method  used  in  this  study  is  the experimental method in the laboratory using a completely randomized design with 3 treatments, ie P1 = C  / N  ratio  of  25,  P2  = C  / N  ratio  of  30  and  P3 = C  / N  ratio  of  35  and  replications  6  times.  To determine  the  effect  of  treatments,  data  were  analyzed  with  ANOVA  and  Duncan  test.  The  results showed  that  the mixture of  feces of beef  cattle and horse  feces with various C  / N  ratio had  significant ffect on total bacteria and coliform in sludge. Treatment P3 (C / N ratio 35) to produce the total number of bacteria (4.95 x 107 cfu / g) and coliform        (6.33 x 106 cfu / g) the lowest.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to assess the consumptive  pattern on   animal origin food of  consumers household  in  Kecamatan  Telanaipura, Municipal    of  Jambi. Method  of  research  conducted  by  survey. Thirty of consumers household was selected through stratified sampling based on three strata of household income : low income, middle income and high income. Data collected was data primer and secunder. Data analysed  by  descriptive  method  and  One-Way  Anova.  The  study  indicated  that  there  is  different consumptive pattern on  animal origin food of household consumer from three strata of income.

Abstract

The  objective  of  the  current  study    to  determine  the  effect  of  the  use  of  bacteria  Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus fermentum in the manucfacture of cow’s milk curd on the total lactid acid bacteria, acidity and pH value of cow’s milk curd. The experiment use fresh cow milk and starter culture of Lactobacillus plantarum, and L. plantarum. Starter culture added about 3% from milk volume than incubated at  room  temperature during 48 hours. The treatments were  fermentation with L. plantarum (A1); L. fermentum (A2); L. plantarum + L. fermentum  (A3). There were significant effect of addition of starter L. plantarum (A1), L. fermentum (A2), and the combination of L. plantarum + L. fermentum (A3) on total  lactic acid bacteria and acidity, however, there was no statistically significant on the pH value of cow's milk curd. It was concluded that using of starter culture combinations of Lactobacillus plantarum  +  Lactobacillus  fermentum  (A3)  increases  the  total  lactic  acid  bacteria  and  acid  levels  of cow’s milk curd.

Abstract

The research aims to find out the  incidence of gastrointestinal parasite in wild long tail macaque in wildlife  reserve  park, Weh  Island, Sabang. For  that purpose,  fecal  specimens  from 25 wild  long  tail macaques  in Weh  Island-  Sabang were  collected.  The  fresh  faeces  samples were  then  preserved  using AFA  (alcohol-formal-acetic)  liquid  prior  to  be  examined  in  Parasitology  Laboratorium,  Faculty  of Veterinary Medicine, Syiah Kuala University.   The  presence of gastrointestinal  parasite was  observed using centrifuge method as well as Boray  sedimentation method. The obtained data were tabulated and analyzed  descriptively.  The  result  revealed  that  two  parasite  species  were  found  in  gastrointestine; Eimeria  spp.    (12%)  and  Strongloides  spp.  (8%).  It  could  be  concluded  that  the  prevalence  of gastrointestinal  parasite  in wild  long  tail macaque  in wildlife  reserve  park, Weh  Island-  Sabang was considered mild.
