Observations were made directly by taking primary and secondary data. The species of birds that were identified during the observations were Pycnonotus goiaver (Merbah Cerocok) important value index 68.75 %, Streptopelia chinensis (Tekukur) IVI 42.50, Prinia familiaris (Prenjak Java) IVI 35.00 %, Colocalia esculenta (Cow Swallow) IVI 18.75 %, Copsychus saularis musicus (Murai) IVI 13.75 %, Halcyon smyrnensis (Javanese gecko) IVI 8.75 %, Rhipidura javanica (Stripe fan) IVI 6.25 % and Porzana cinerea (White Eyebrow Rat) with IVI 6.25%. The diversity of bird species in the oil palm plantations is low because only 8 bird species were found. The results of this study were basic data that need to be developed because there are effects that need to be multiplied further. The existence of oil palm plantations has an effect on the diversity of animal populations, especially birds around the land.

Abstract

In this activity, food safety outreach was carried out regarding the use of cooking oil for repeated frying. Cooking oil is a triglyceride compound which has a high boiling point. The use of cooking oil in society is often used repeatedly. This means that the chemical content in cooking oil can undergo oxidation and hydrolysis processes so that the quality of the oil becomes damaged. The formation of peroxide compounds means that oil will become a precursor to the formation of an unhealthy condition for those who consume it. Therefore, this socialization was carried out to increase public knowledge. The socialization activities were carried out during real work lecture activities for Andalas University students for the 2023 period. The socialization was carried out using the lecture and question and answer method. As a result of this activity, it is known that there has been an increase in community knowledge, which is indicated by the establishment of very good communication activities between the community and the real work lecture team from Andalas University. It is hoped that this activity will be carried out again with a different food safety topic.

Abstract

The Limau Manis Farmers Group is a farmer group located in Limau Manis Village, Pauh Subdistrict, Padang City. This farmer group has been engaged in the cultivation of white oyster mushrooms, and its development has been quite successful. Productive economic development can create a sustainable economy and provide a business opportunity that is ready to compete, thus becoming a source of income for farmers. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many people lost their jobs, making economic needs even more challenging. The oyster mushroom production efforts of this farmer group are capable of producing a considerable amount of oyster mushrooms. However, there are some obstacles and challenges to producing even more oyster mushrooms. This is due to several factors such as (1) the short shelf life of fresh oyster mushrooms; (2) limited knowledge in processing oyster mushroom harvests; (3) funding issues to support oyster mushroom processing activities; (4) the group's limited knowledge of labeling and packaging; and (5) the group's limitations in managing digital marketing. The most common challenge faced is the frequent delay in spawn availability. Furthermore, the high cost of spawn can also reduce the income of the LMS group. Through benchmarking or visits to advanced oyster mushroom cultivation groups such as the De Jamur group in Sungai Sarik, Padang Pariaman, new knowledge can be acquired, and innovations can be found for the LMS group, resulting in improved mushroom productivity in that group compared to before.

Abstract

Nagari Padang Toboh Ulakan in Pariaman Regency faces the challenge of low education with the majority of the population having only completed basic education. Focus on earning income replaces interest in pursuing higher education. However, local agriculture has not had a significant economic impact, and the lack of product marketing become a problem. Community empowerment programs, including hydroponic gardening, are one solution to this problem. The PKK community has vegetables such as pakcoy that have not been utilized optimally. In discussions, the processing of pakcoy into noodles has not been optimally successful. In fact, pakcoy can be a healthy natural coloring for noodles. The training aims to increase PKK community’s knowledge about the use of natural pakcoy coloring in noodles. Various methods are applied, ranging from education, training, to demonstrations. After the training, there was increased understanding and innovation in pakcoy processing, improving the nutritional value and appearance of the noodles. Discussions with resource persons help understand the stages of serving noodles according to standards. Training also improves knowledge of the right ingredients for noodles and product storage skills. This activity provides a broad understanding of the use of natural pakcoy coloring in noodles. Apart from improving the quality of noodle products, it also contributes to better marketing and improving the economic welfare of local communities

Abstract

Mung bean (Vigna radiate L.) is one of the most widely cultivated crops after soybean and peanut. Mung beans (Vigna radiate L.) became one of the crops that experienced a decline in production amid the increase in the area of harvested land in West Sumatra. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of land suitability of mung bean crops using the Growing Degree Days method in West Sumatra Province. The research method used in this research is Scoring and Overlay using ArcGis 10.5 software. Land suitability analysis is carried out by giving scores to several parameters of land characteristics. The parameters used are slope, land use, rainfall, soil texture and soil pH. Growing Degree Days analysis was conducted by accumulating the daily temperature values of plants based on planting scenarios. These two analyses were combined with Overlay clustering. The results showed that the land area of West Sumatra whose GDD value is optimal for mung bean growth with the level of land suitability in physical characteristics in S1 class is 15,819.29 ha and in S2 class is 877,501.06 ha. Areas that are suitable in terms of physical characteristics and values with an area of > 100 ha are Lima Puluh Kota District, Pasaman District, Solok District, and South Solok District. The best planting time for mung bean based on the planting scenario is from December to March.
