Abstract

The study about the relationship between climate and economy is essential because it’s understanding is the key to formulate the effective economic policy. El Nino is one of the climate phenomena's that directly impact Indonesia, so it is necessary to analyze its effect on the macroeconomic condition such as inflation. This study aims to analyze the impact of El Nino as an external factor and the impact of another relevant economic factor on the macroeconomic condition such as inflation at the regional level (province) in Indonesia. The method used is a spatial panel method to capture the effect of inter-regional spatial interactions. The results show that El Nino has a positive effect on inflation in the southern Indonesian provinces that are affected by El Nino, but no effect in northern Indonesia. The other significant determinants of regional inflation are minimum wage, local revenue, local government spending, and infrastructure. There is significant spatial dependence on regional inflation in Indonesia, indicating that the inflations of its neighboring provinces influence the inflation of a province.

Abstract

Poverty is still become a main problem for Indonesia, where recently, the view point of poverty is not just from income or consumption, but it’s defined multidimensionally. The understanding of the structure of multidimensional poverty is essential to government to develop policies for poverty reduction. This paper aims to describe the structure of poverty in East Java by using variables forming the dimensions of poverty and to investigate any clustering patterns in the region of East Java with considering the poverty variables using biclustering method. Biclustering is an unsupervised technique in data mining where we are grouping scalars from the two-dimensional matrix. Using bicluster analysis, we found two bicluster where each bicluster has different characteristics.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v6i2.4769

Abstract

Islamic banking industry shows a reasonably good development, one of which is marked by an increase in service coverage in almost all provinces in Indonesia. However, the question is how far Islamic banking capable of contributing to the improvement of Indonesia's economic growth? The purpose of this research is to examine the role of Islamic banking in promoting inclusive economic growth with a sample of 33 provinces in Indonesia. The method used in this research is panel data regression using the fixed effects model. The results show that Islamic bank financing does not have an impact on Indonesia's economic growth. In other words, the results of the research provide information that the existence of Islamic banking in Indonesia has not yet give a significant impact on the welfare of Indonesian society

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the relative efficiency of saving and credit cooperative units in North Aceh, Indonesia. In this study, the selection of inputs and outputs to be analyzed by the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was selected using the intermediation approach. The results showed that the overall saving and credit cooperative units in North Aceh, Indonesia have not operated fully efficient. This is indicated by the average of value of Malmquist Productivity Index which was still below one, but individually the study found that some cooperatives have operated efficiently, such as cooperative employee of PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (Persero), KPN Kopebun, KPN Citra Guru, KPN Tunas and Kopbun Cut Mutia. These findings implied that more serious efforts should be made by the saving and credit cooperative units in North Aceh, Indonesia to improve the cooperative management efficiency levels by managing their capital and assets professionally. Abstract

The ASEAN and its dialogue partner countries agreed to reduce trade barriers in the services sector, one of which is sea transport services. The purpose of this study is to estimate the equivalent tax of non-tariff barriers in the sea transport services. Besides that, this study is going to analyze the economic impacts of the regulatory barriers elimination in the sea transport services of ASEAN and its dialogue partner countries. Using the gravity model, it can be identified that trade barriers of sea transport services sector of ASEAN and dialogue partner countries are still relatively high. Additionally, by adopting IC-IRTS model in Global CGE Model (GTAP), the simulation results show consistent results with the theory of pro-competitive effects. The greater gain from trade is obtained in the CGE model assuming IC-IRTS compared to PC-CRTS. China gains a greater benefit that is indicated by the highest increase in welfare and GDP followed by Japan and AustraliaDOI: 10.15408/sjie.v6i2.5279

Abstract

This study examines the effect of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and the exchange rate on U.S. dollar against the TPF (Third Party Funds) in Indonesia. The objective of Islamic banking in this study was to analyze the influence of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) Rupiah rate against U.S. dollar deposits (Fund Party Third) of Islamic banking in Indonesia. In writing this makes the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and the rupiah rate to U.S. dollar as the variables that influence to measure how much influence on Deposits (Third Party Funds). This study used 24 samples comprising the financial statements starting from January 2004 till December 2009. The method used in this study is the statistical method with a multiple regression model, where to find or measure how much influence given by the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and exchange rate on U.S. dollar against the TPF (Third Party Funds) Islamic banking. The result showed that the variables GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and the exchange rate on U.S. dollar deposits have a significant effect on the Fund (Third Party) Islamic banking in IndonesiaDOI: 10.15408/sjie.v2i2.2426

Abstract

This study aims at estimating the difference health and education performance between children with exposure to smoke and those who are not at home. An environment with the extreme smoke condition has adverse health effects. This study utilizes longitudinal data namely Indonesia Family Life Survey period 2007 and 2014 (IFLS4 and IFLS5). We use the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method and the Average Treatment Effect on Treated (ATT). The health indicator is proxied by body mass index (BMI) and educational achievement proxied with children cognitive ability. The results show that children who grow in a household with active smoker tend to have lower health status and educational attainment compare to children who are not. This study recommends public policy for banning smoking in public areas as well as inside building such as house and office in Indonesia.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v7i2.5793

Abstract

This current paper examined the determinant of the poverty in the OIC countries. Our empirical model was based on Ibn Khaldun development model that emphasizes several aspects, namely: the country's wealth (proxied by GDP per capita), the role of government (proxied by health and education expenditures), human resources (proxied by HDI), sharia (proxied by corruption perception index), development (proxied by investment), and justice (proxied by Gini index). We used panel data model consisting nine OIC countries over 2003-2012. This study verified that GDP per capita significantly contribute to the reduction of poverty in the OIC countries. We also found that unemployment (as a control variable) encountered a role in triggering poverty in OIC countries. Meanwhile, it found that education expenditure, Gini index, HDI, and Corruption Perception Index found no significant effect on poverty. DOI:  10.15408/sjie.v5i1.3130

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Value-Added Tax (VAT) on the economic growth in China. The data used for the study is a time series of the period from 1985-2016. These researches use the gross domestic product (GDP) as a dependent variable. For the independent variables, this research using the total population, employed persons, consumer price index, and value-added tax. The current findings add to a growing body of literature on identifying the properties of VAT in China and identifying the tax system reform from 1993 to 2012 and the mechanism of transfer application of the business tax in the services sector to Value-Added Tax. The test result indicated to have a positive relationship between the GDP and independent variables value-added tax in both in the long and short-run

Abstract

These research purposes for knowing the influence change of inflation rate and nontax revenue (PTKP) to the state income from tax revenue (PPh 21). Data that has used in this research are primary and secondary which has taken from DJP, BPS and other relevant sources. This data used classic assumption test and multiple linear regressions. Research result showed that the changing of inflation rate and changing of nontax revenue (PTKP) had a significant effect to state income. Although mathematically the increasing of nontax revenue (PTKP) should decrease state income from tax, according to this research, the increasing of nontax revenue (PTKP) otherwise also increasing state income from tax. These mean that the government policy for increasing nontax revenue (PTKP) already correct policy.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v2i1.2374
