Abstract

Politically, educational position of madrasah (Islamic institution of learning) has been relatively powerful although its function is complementary to school education. However, problematic complexities faced by the madrasah nowadays still needs a long political struggle to make madrasah capable of running its function well and also keeping itself as a relatively original native religious institution constructed by long historic struggle of the moslem community. It is necessary for both madrasah and government as its protector to be aware of not only for the benefit of madrasah itself and a feeling of regret if madrasah should be disappeared, but also to guarantee the availability of educated and competitive human resources of the madrasah at both the national and international level. By using politico-historical perspective, this article tries to unpack and explicate what and how Madrasah as the religious-education institution in Indonesia.

Abstract

In the era of global competition, every country tries to make real economic prosperity and science and technology advances that trigger economic change of the community that is more intellect, professional, and skilful in managing the nature and living environment for the purpose of fulfilling their needs. However, without being concerned, a decrease in quality of human personality has resulted also. Unsurprisingly, the free-market ideology and culture in various public domains have alienated education only as the vehicle of the capitalism's power used to humanize human beings. Consequently, education has experienced moral degradation and decadence, including orientation and vision switch. This article offers critical, humanist, populist education in a context of educational dynamics in Indonesia. Education, in the globalization era, like is being tested to give a dilemmatic answer, that is, between legitimizing and eventuating the existing social system and structure, or having critical roles in making social change and transformation into an equitable world. The both dilemmatic roles of education can only be answered through the selection process of its underlying educational paradigm and ideology.

Abstract

However, religious education teachers' requirement is an important and strategic factor to be fulfilled. Based on the data, its requirement either on State Junior Secondary School or Private Junior High School in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan can be said that it already fulfilled the requirement based on the calculation ratio between the religious education teachers and the students. It means that every Junior Secondary School, state and private, already available the religious education teachers', so the students have been taught religious teaching as their beliefs and taught by the teacher who has the same religion with them. The problem is how the schools able to fulfill that requirement. In the State Junior Secondary Schools, it is not a big problem because the government supports it. But, the Private Junior High Schools face this as a serious problem. The problem of religious education teachers' requirement comes from internal and external of Junior Secondary School. Internally, it is about fund. Meanwhile, externally it is more founded on the government policy which has not yet sided on the Private Junior Secondary Schools.

Abstract

Democrat' institutionalkation and civil society encouragement need a prerequisite, namely an integration between state and community elements. The unification of them will create a democratic political culture, namely, democratic civility. This a,pect of civility is significant to minimize primitive political behaviors causing a democratic civility vacuum. This vacuum is a result of neglecting an urgency of democracy education. Democrag, as an ideology, thrives by not only relying on natural process but also studying and practicing it continually. In this context, therefore, education owned by Moslems as that implemented in Pesantrens is one of important institutions that may build a democrat' education.
