Abstract

Abstract: Noble Character Culture Building Among Students of Yogyakarta StateUniversity Through PAI Learning. This study aims to reveal problems in PAIlearning in Yogyakarta State University and its role in building students noblecharacter. This study was a qualitative study. The data were obtained throughinterviews, questionnaires, and documents and were analyzed using qualitativeanalysis techniques with the inductive approach. The results show that PAIlearning has an important role in building students noble character if supported bycompetent lecturers, good inputs, adequate materials, and good processes.Conversely, if such supports are not available, the goal will be difficult to attain.Among the problems are diverse student abilities, students less attention tocharacter, the emphasis of PAI learning materials on cognitive aspects, anddifficulty in controlling students outside the class.Keywords: culture building, noble character, PAI learning

Abstract

Abstract: Counseling for the Academically Gifted Children. The number of academically gifted children is quite high distributed in all areas. The academically gifted children will be benefecial for themselves and other people, if they can develop optimally. There are many academically gifted children who are succesful in their life; however we can find some who are in difficulty. They need counseling services. There are some important issues in counseling, especially for the academically gifted children, such as: (1) divergent thinker, (2) excitability, (3) sensitivity, (4) perceptiveness, (5) entelechy. (6) self-concept, (7) counseling with parents, and (8) underachievement. To help them face important issues, social-personal counseling, academic counseling, and career counseling are necessary. These three counseling approaches can be conducted simultaneously, depending on their needs. The models and strategies of counseling for the academically gifted children are therapeutic, preventive, and developmental models. The choice of models is strongely determined by the need of effective counseling, in order to achieve the optimal result. To establish the effective counseling, it is necessary that counseling services should be conducted by professional counselors. Keywords: counseling, academically gifted children

Abstract: The History Teaching Paradigm Facing Future Challenges. Teaching history is an interesting topic to be discussed, especially when modern human life becomes more materialistic and pays almost no attention to moral values. History, and especially history teaching, as a part of social sciences becomes dry because it provides no financial benefits in the short run as in the case of other social sciences. However, history and history teaching play an important role in the existence of a nation with regard to moral values. By studying history everybody can understand better about himself or herself, his or her existence, and how life always changes through experiences. History teaches people to be wise and not to repeat mistakes. Therefore, history teaching plays an important role in the existence of a nation.Keywords: paradigm, history teaching, future challenges

Abstract

Abstract: A Method in Learning Magnetic Substance Characteristics and Identifying Natural Sand Compound Contents Through Basic Principles in Physics. This study was conducted by separating ferrate sand from natural sand in an area in Indramayu Regency in the form of the titanomagnetite Fe2.5Ti0.5O4 compound by means of a magnetic separator with a power of 0.3 tesla. Using this method, the titanomagnetite content of the natural sand was capable of being improved from 32% to 63.6% (for sand in River Cimanuks tributary) based on the analysis using XRD (X-Ray Difractometer) using the GSAS (General Structure Analisis System) program with a Chi2 of 1.454 and Wrp as a correction factor for the difference in the intensity of the two patterns was 0.1142 (11.42%). The value of Chi2 which was almost 1 dan and that of Wrp which was almost 10% showed that the data were acceptable (with a probability of ~0.1). To enhance the titanomagnetite content of the separation product, an extraction-solving process was conducted using HCl 32% and NH4OH 25%. The results of the analysis using XRF (X-Ray Flourosence) showed that the content which was most probably a titanomagnetite compound increased its weight fraction to almost 100%. Abstract

Abstract: The Problem-Based Learning Approach in Physical Therapy FieldWorks. The objectives of the study are to identify strategic application of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in physical therapy field works and to improve studentsmastery in physical therapy in terms of cognitive, affective, and psychomotordomains. This action research study consisted of three cycles, each of whichincluded four stages, namely planning, implementing the plan, monitoringactivities and progress, and reflection. The participants were 23 seventh semesterstudents taking physical therapy field works in 2007. In the first cycle, studentstheoretical mastery was inadequate. In the second cycle they did more extensiveliterature search to expand theories. In the third cycle they learned more aboutempirical cases, not just theories, so that they better skills in implementing thewhole PBL activities and managed to attain the course objectives. PBL is thereforesuitable for advanced students prior to their professional development.Keywords: problem based-learning, physical therapy field works

Abstract: Factors Affecting the Use of the Learning Management System inUniversities (A Case Study in Indonesia University of Education). The purpose ofthis paper is to find out factors that affect the usage of the Learning ManagementSystem (LMS) in in Indonesia University of Education. Indonesia University ofEducation has been built LMS to support learning processes. The focus is on factorsaffecting the use of LMS in supporting effective and efficient learning processes. Inthis research the writer used Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to find outthose factors. The data were collected using the survey technique and wereanalyzed by means of the multivariate statistic method. The result of this researchconcluded that the factors of Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use(PEOU), Intention to Use (ITU), Actual Usage Behavior (AUB) significantly affectedthe effective and efficient use of LMS in supporting learning processes.Keywords: Learning Management System (LMS), Technology Acceptance Model(TAM), Information and Communication technology (ICT).

Abstract

Abstract: Developing a Model of a Science Practicum for Blind Students Through the Constructivist Approach and Its Application in the Inclusive Education. This study aims to develop a model of a science practicum for blind students through the constructivist approach for both schools running inclusive education and those for the handicapped. The research stages included: (1) developing practicum devices for realistic science, i.e. voice equipment, (2) developing a practicum model using the constructivist approach, and (3) developing an evaluation model for the sclence learning process and product. The study employed a spiral model by Cennamo and Kalk (2005:6), consisting of (1) definition, (2) design, (3) demonstration, (4) development, and (5) presentation. The products include: (1) voice equipment to measure temperature and electricity voltage that the students use in the science practicum, (2) a realistic practicum model that motivates and trains the students to be active and autonomous as suggested by the constructivist approach, and (3) the improvement of the students discussion activities based on the eveluation model. Abstract

Abstract: Craft Skills Learning Through an Approach that Empowers Local Crafts. Craft skills education equips students with practices aiming to make them possess skills through appreciation and creativity activities to produce craft products so that they acquire life skills. Such learning should give them actual learning experiences. It can be carried out by selecting traditional crafts in a particular region and modifying them into modern crafts developed in accordance with the students and societys needs. It can be conducted by means of the OIA (Observe, Imitate, and Add) method to make the students acquire art and craft skills. Craft skills education should employ the contextual approach so that what happens in the learning process at school is identical to what exists in society. An important point that teachers should note is how they can play roles as facilitators and totivators for their students, so that the students competence can develop to the maximum. Abstract: Stressand How to Reduce It. Everyone experiences stress or tension but it will vary from person to person. The difference lies in its intensity and the way to respond to its causes. Some ways to reduce stress include, among others, consuming healthy and nutritious foods, maintaining physical fitness, doing breath exercises, doing relaxation exercises, doing fun activities, taking a vacation, establishing harmonious relationship, avoiding bad habits, planning daily routines, keeping plants and animals, sparing time for oneself or families, and avoiding loneliness. Abstract

Abstrak: Kepribadian Guru Sekolah Dasar dan Motivasi Belajar Siswa untuk Memahami Konsep Sains. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menggali informasi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi belajar anak usia sekolah dasar untuk pemahaman konsep sains. Subjek penelitian adalah 26 anak SD kelas VI di SD RSBI Banten dan guru yang membelajarkannya. Metode pengumpulan data dengan angket tentang strategi motivasi belajar anak (MSLQ=Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionaires), observasi kelas, dan wawancara terstruktur. Analisis data dilakukan untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang faktor-faktor yang mem-pengaruhi motivasi belajar, dan cross-case analysis untuk setiap anak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap anak mempunyai faktor motivasi yang berbeda dalam belajar sains. Kepribadian guru yang unik, seperti kedekatan serta berusaha untuk memahami dan menghargai potensi anak didik dapat mening-katkan motivasi anak belajar sains. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa di dalam proses pembelajaran sains untuk perubahan konseptual, seorang guru sekolah dasar harus memahami pentingnya faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi anak untuk belajar, termasuk kepribadian yang dapat diterima, sehingga mereka dapat mengikuti proses pembelajaran dengan lebih bermakna.
