Abstract

The US was the world's largest pepper importer in 2020. Most of the US pepper imports came from Indonesia and Vietnam. The greater the number of imports will lead to the emergence of many competitors from other countries. The increasing producers and exporters of a product worldwide will result in tighter competitiveness between countries to win the market. Indonesian pepper exports fluctuate and tend to decrease, allegedly due to the low competitiveness of Indonesian pepper products compared to Vietnam. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian and Vietnam black pepper and analyze factors that affect Indonesian black pepper exports to America. This research is a quantitative research that uses secondary time series data from the period 2011-2020. Data sources were obtained from UN Comtrade, Central Statistics Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, and Indonesia Central Bank. The analysis uses RCA and Multiple Regression. The results showed that Indonesian pepper export competitiveness has an RCA value of 25.83, and Vietnam has RCA of 29.28. The volume of exports made by Indonesia to the American market is markedly influenced by the value of RCA and exchange rates, while the price of exports and domestic pepper production has no significant effect.

Abstract

An increase will follow the increase in population in an area in the rate of increase in the labor force. This will develop problems caused by the lack of functioning of various sectors so that the readiness of employment opportunities is not commensurate with the population growth rate. With the agricultural sector, people can get food as their basic need. The potential of the agricultural sector can be seen from the value of exports, the area of agricultural land, and the wages of the agricultural sector. The purpose of this study is "Analyze the Potential of the Agricultural Sector and Its Effect on Labor Absorption in Aceh Province". This study uses multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the estimation results, it is found that the value of exports, the area of agricultural land, and the wages of the agricultural sector have a positive and significant effect on employment in Aceh Province. This means that any increase in the value of agricultural exports, the area of agricultural land and wages in the agricultural sector will increase the absorption of labor in Aceh Province.

Abstract

Agrotourism activities that are growing quite rapidly, making the competition for agrotourism in Upang Strawberry Farm quite high. In addition, the high increase in consumer demand make the production process directly proportional to use of the chemical products. This in the long term has the potential to threaten the sustainability of agrotourism. The application of the concept of sustainable agriculture in agrotourism is expected to overcome these sustainability problems. This study aims to determine the sustainability status of agrotourism in Upang Strawberry Farm. The analytical method used is Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) analysis and RAP-Agrotourism analysis tool. The results showed that the multidimensional Upang Strawberry Farm agrotourism had a less sustainable status (49,79%), based on the ecological dimension of 48,38% (less sustainable); economic dimension 53,61% (sufficiently sustainable); socio-cultural dimension 51,21% (sufficiently sustainable); institutional dimensions 49,19% (less sustainable) and facilities and infrastructure dimensions 46,42% (less sustainable).

Abstract

Jambewangi village cocoa farmers market their cocoa beans individually and in small quantities, so they’re in a low bargaining position. In addition to not optimally the role of each institution, they also haven’t coordinated and cooperated to promote cocoa. Researchers need to research to design institutional synergies in the agribusiness supply chain. The research was conducted in Jambewangi villages, the center of cocoa production in Banyuwangi. The supply chain design is based Soft System Methodology (SSM) approach through information from sources, farmers, and experts. Based on the SSM analysis, it can be concluded that: 1. There is a fundamental problem with the cocoa in Jambewangi village that farmers only produce unfermented cocoa beans, and sell them individually, so their bargaining position is low. Several institutions in the village haven’t played an optimal role in joint marketing, 2. There is no synergy between institutions at the farmer level, so they can’t protect farmers in their bargaining position. 3. If supply chain actors synergize and carry out their respective roles in the supply chain, uniform, and SNI-standardized cocoa beans can be produced and are able to produce processed chocolate products such as butter, chocolate bars, and powder.

Abstract

Cayenne pepper is a horticultural commodity that its production to be seasonal so cause the supply of cayenne pepper to be unavailable in sufficient quantities throughout the year and the price to be fluctuative. Based on this, this study aims to 1) analyze price behavior and the level of price fluctuations of cayenne pepper using the coefficient of variation 2) analyze market integration using Johansen Cointegration Test, and 3) analyze price transmission using the VAR (Vector Auto Regression) / VECM (Vector Error Correction Model). The results show that 1) The price of cayenne pepper is high when production decreases (December-February and July-August), and low when production is abundant (March-June and September-November). The price of cayenne pepper at the consumer and producer levels has a high and unstable level of fluctuation with a coefficient of variation (KV) respectively of 23.9% and 19.7%, 2) The trace statistic value (106.41) > critical value (16.36) so that the producer and consumer markets of cayenne pepper in Indonesia have been vertically integrated, 3) Price transmission is imperfect. In the event of a price shock, at the producer and consumer level, price adjustments will be made towards long-term equilibrium respectively of -0.103 and -0.279.

Abstract

Red pepper is a horticulture commodity that has fluctuating prices in the market. The fluctuating price is affected by the availability of the peppers. Meanwhile, the availability of red peppers depends on production activities at the farm level. However, farmers require a big capital to produce these red peppers. Inadequate capital leads to low crop production, which is a common problem among these farmers. Farmer financing is done to overcome this low crop production, one of which is channelling credit to them. Although this credit facility has been provided, only a few farmers used it. Therefore, it is necessary to research the factors that influence Indonesian red pepper farmers’ decisions to use credit. This study uses a binary logistic regression model to determine factors that influence red pepper farmers’ decisions to use credit in Indonesia to use credit. The results revealed that farm location, age, formal education, gender, cooperative membership, farmers group membership, partnership, agricultural extension, and machinery significantly influenced the farmers’ decision to take credit as a capital resource.

Abstract

The farming sector is an important part of Indonesia’s national development due to its availability of foodstuffs, industrial resources, bio-energy, labor absorption, and income source for the rural populace. The horticultural practices, such as farming vegetables, fruits, medicinal herbs and ornamental plants, are strategic subsectors in the progression of the national and regional farming industry. This study aims to determine the performance of farming and to compare the income of horticultural farming of cabbage and shallots in the Poso Regency. A combined method is utilized in this research. Qualitative data analysis will descriptively portray the production and processing stages, cost, market access, and farmers’ income, while quantitative analysis will calculate the profit and Return-Cost Ratio. The research shows that farmers’ revenue depends on the size of land they possess. After a planting season, the net income of shallot farmers is between Rp 116.045.237 and Rp139.647.762, whereas cabbage farmers earn a total net income between Rp 18.131.412 and Rp 83.141.875. This demonstrates that horticultural farming, namely shallot cultivation, is more profitable than cabbage.
