Abstract

Sugarcane is one of the leading plantation commodities in Situbondo Regency, especially in the Asembagus District. Generally, sugarcane farmers sell sugar cane to sugar factories using a profit-sharing system (SBH). In 2019, the government implemented a new partnership system for sugar cane farmers and sugar factories, namely the sugar cane purchase system (SPT), which will replace the profit-sharing system (SBH). This study aims to determine the perception of sugarcane farmers on implementing the sugarcane purchasing system (SPT) and the factors influencing the perceptions of sugarcane farmers in the Asembagus District. This research method is descriptive-analytic with measurement tools using a Likert scale and data analysis using multiple linear regression. The results showed 1) The perception of sugarcane farmers towards implementing the sugarcane purchasing system (SPT) was expressed by several indicators that cumulatively had a score of 3.777 out of 7.380, where sugarcane farmers perceived that the implementation of the SPT system, in general, had a positive impact. 2) The factors that influence the perception of sugarcane farmers have met the classical assumption test with the factors that significantly influence the length of farming, farmer education, and job diversification. In contrast, the non-significant factors are farmer age, land area, and land status.

Abstract

The increase in demand for coffee has not been in line with the increase in the welfare of the farmers. Fairtrade certification has a social premium for ensuring the welfare of farmers, but companies must anticipate higher production costs. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of consumers of coffee products in Indonesia, analyze the maximum WTP (Willingness to Pay) average value, and the factors that influence this value. This research was conducted in various regions in Indonesia with a sample of 218 respondents. Analysis was performed using descriptive analysis method, contingent valuation method (CVM) analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the average coffee consumer was a woman aged 21-30 years, undergraduate education level, income less than IDR 2,000,000, bought 2-4 coffees per month, and had a moderate knowledge score. Respondents who were willing to pay more were 199 respondents with an average value of readiness to pay a maximum of IDR 4,909.55 and a total WTP aggregate value of IDR 977,000.00. Gender Factors, age, education level, income level, purchase quantity, attitude towards the environment, and lifestyle simultaneously influence the WTP value of Fairtrade coffee, while gender, knowledge, and lifestyle factors do not partially affect the WTP value of coffee Fairtrade label.

The research sample size is determined using Harry King’s Nomogram. This current research uses a quantitative descriptive approach and primary and secondary data. Primary data are collected througt techniques of observation, interview, and documentation with respondents. Data analysis in this research employs Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis and SWOT analysis. Abstract

One of the challenges of increasing sugarcane productivity is that unpredictable external factors expose farmers to a variety of risk production, necessitating farmers to adapt to these changes. This study intends to examine farmers' perceptions and behavior toward risk as an alternative to a new strategy for increasing sugarcane productivity through 237 samples of sugarcane farmers in East Java. The Just and Pope model was utilized to analyze risk preferences and the probit regression model was utilized to identify the socioeconomic elements influencing this behavior. According to the perception analysis, productivity is significantly influenced by climate, pests and diseases, labor, and land area. However, farmers typically only make passive adjustments, which is consistent with the analysis that they are risk- averse. This attitude is significantly influenced by age, whereas factors like farming experience, size of the family, off-farm, and education have insignificant impacts. To anticipate the unpredictable external changes and raise the farmer's quality, it is suggested to increase the frequency of training and the use of technology. This will encourage farmers to take more chances and be more open to using new technologies.
