Abstract

Distribution is an important activity that companies need to pay attention to. Improper planning for distribution activities can potentially waste both cost and time. Determining the shortest distribution route could help companies effectively reduce distribution costs. This research was conducted on a small and medium enterprise (SME) located in Rangkasbitung, Indonesia that sells various types of bread. Distribution activities carried out by Jaya Roti were found to be still conventional, while the distribution carried out to the city of Serang has many locations and complex route combinations. This research utilized the metaheuristic method of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) with MATLAB software to determine the shortest route, which is included in the Travel Salesman Problem (TSP). The result of the shortest route determination was a total distance of 93,484 Km with an efficiency rate of 26.97% and a resulting cost of IDR 170,795.

Abstract

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) has become a valuable tool for decision-making and identifying opportunities for lean manufacturing practices. This study reviewed literature from various sources, including Google Scholar and Science Direct, to explore the application of VSM in different sectors of the manufacturing industry. The study used specific keywords, such as "Value Stream Mapping," "Manufacturing Industry," "Waste," and "Waiting Time" to identify relevant literature. The study analyzed 42 research papers published between 2017 and 2022 to examine the development and application of VSM in the manufacturing industry. VSM has been widely adopted in various industries such as automotive, food, and textile, among others, and has been used to create action plans that combine different lean techniques to achieve optimal results. The process of VSM involves two stages, which are describing the current and future conditions. From the descriptions, areas for improvement can be identified and developed to create a lean process. Based on the reviewed literature, VSM has been found to be highly effective in the manufacturing industry.

Abstract

X University is one of the private universities located in the East Java province. To retain prospective students and encourage them to register, informational media through promotion is necessary. To determine the best promotion strategy, student profile data is utilized. The accumulated student profile data must be processed through data mining. In this research, the K-means method is used for data mining. The K-means measurement results are divided into three groups: Cluster 1 includes P1, P7, and P8; Cluster 2 includes P2 and P9; and Cluster 3 includes P3, P4, P5, P6, and P10. The risk management process is carried out in three stages: risk identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation. The results of the risk identification phase showed that there were 15 risk variables. The risk assessment phase revealed two very high category risks, two high category risks, four medium category risks, and seven low category risks. Following the advice of X University, risk mitigation activities were selected for the very high and high-category risk variables. The results of this research are expected to contribute to an increase in the number of students at X University in the future.

Abstract

CI is a multinational company that involves manufacturing carbon black. The carbon black is packed in a 1250 kg jumbo bag and a 25 kg paper sack. Based on reject weight data for December 2019, 4.4% of paper sacks were rejected, with some caused by suboptimal packer machine settings. The study will use the design of experiment to determine critical quality factors for carbon black grade Sterling-V, identify waste in the packaging process, determine the sigma value in the packaging process, identify factors causing product defects, evaluate the risk priority number, and provide suggestions for optimal packaging machine conditions through factorial experiments. The reject weight of Sterling-V products due to reject weight was 123 out of the total production. The study results showed a sigma level of 2.205, with the engine factor being the main cause of reject weight (RPN 900). The optimal packaging machine conditions proposed for Sterling-V grade are Bulk Fill Cut Off (22.5 kg), High Pressure Air (7 bar), and Trim Final Cut Off (25 kg), which can reduce reject weight to 23 from total production.

Abstract

Technological improvements and developments have significantly altered consumers' perceptions of product quality. The production of high-quality products is only possible through a robust manufacturing process. However, during the production process, various issues may arise, leading to the production of defective products. As a result, manufacturing companies like XYZ are now required to conduct product quality control to minimize the number of defects. The objective of this study is to control product quality by reducing defects at XYZ. To achieve this, we have employed the Six Sigma method, which involves several stages, such as define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. Our research indicates that product A is prone to defects, with density being the most common type. We have calculated the DPMO (defects per million opportunities) to be 2580.66, while the sigma value is 4.297. The process capacity that produces problems at XYZ is at an average level for US industry. Additionally, we have used the 5W + 1H approach to propose improvements during the Improve stage. However, our recommendation for enhancing the production process to reduce defects is still a work in progress and needs to be executed, assessed, and monitored to reach world-class industry standards.

Abstract

As time progresses, the evolving industrial world demands that companies devise the best strategies to achieve their desired goals. A well-designed system is expected to increase the profitability of the company itself. CSD is an interior furniture and interior design studio located in the city of Cilegon, Banten. The challenge faced by CSD is the inability to meet order deadlines during periods of high demand. The objective of this study is to assess the level of machine utility within the existing process and provide recommendations to achieve an optimal process. The methodology employed includes system simulation and model development using Promodel software. Additionally, statistical tests, model validation, and ANOVA tests were conducted. Based on the results, it was determined that the level of machine utility at CSD is 17.48% for shaping planning, 30.08% for grinding, 14.88% for assembly, and 29.98% for finishing. The proposed solution, scenario or proposal 2, suggests combining the assembly and finishing workstations, resulting in increased machine utility.

Abstract

The cause of global warming occurring in the world originates from the transportation sector, particularly Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles using fossil fuels. As a response, the Indonesian government has enacted regulations aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles developed in Indonesia encompass two-wheeled, three-wheeled, four-wheeled, and other types that operate by utilizing electrical energy stored in the vehicle's battery. One notable development involves the conversion of ICE motorcycles into electric motorcycles. This study seeks to assess the investment feasibility of implementing convertible motorcycles from economic, environmental, and social perspectives. The economic aspects are evaluated by calculating net present value (NPV) and payback period (PP), with the study's results demonstrating the economic viability of implementing convertible motorcycles. Furthermore, environmental considerations involve the comparison of chemical substances emitted as pollutants, with the results indicating the feasibility of this approach due to its potential to reduce air pollution. Lastly, the social aspect encompasses the review of potential impacts should converted electric motorcycles be produced on a large scale. The success of implementing convertible motorcycles necessitates the collaboration of various stakeholders, including the government, small and medium enterprises, electricity service providers, and the awareness of the public.

Abstract

Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa currently lacks a secure application to store digital certificates, including diplomas and academic transcripts, with an assurance of non-alteration. Consequently, a research study was conducted to develop a blockchain-based certificate storage on its website. The choice of blockchain technology was driven by its cryptographic security, immutability, distributed ledger, and decentralized features. The research aimed to identify stakeholder needs for website application development, design a blockchain-based website application for storing certificates, and assess the outcomes of testing this application. The research followed the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method, encompassing planning, analysis, design, implementation, and system testing stages. The stakeholders involved in this website application included university administrators responsible for uploading digital certificates, students accessing their own certificates, and companies verifying student credentials. The application was designed with rich images, use case diagrams, sequence diagrams, hierarchical charts, entity-relationship diagrams, and application specifications. The results of the System Usability Scale testing showed a score of 76.56, indicating that the application falls within the acceptable range and is deemed acceptable by users.
