Abstract

The rapid spread of information on the dangers of Covid-19 through social media is not directly proportional to the accuracy of the truth of the current news. People believe in various categories of hoax news developed in the community that cannot be justified. The public must control information literacy in this uncertain condition. This study examined information literacy about the dangers of Covid-19 in the community in Serang City, Banten Province. Method research used a quantitative approach with survey methods and also field observations. The sample in this study was 100 respondents spread over six sub-districts in Serang City. The study results showed that 75% of the people of Serang City used social media, meaning that the people of Serang City had the characteristics of an information society and were technology literate. People as many as 42% stated that they obtained most of the news related to Covid-19 from Facebook. It also discovered that people of 10% of Serang City's people could not choose and analyze news related to Covid-19, whether it was a hoax or genuine. People tended to share the news they received without checking first. News related to the dangers of Covid-19, which the government spread on conventional media and social media, did not change people's patterns and attitudes much. People were more likely to believe in beliefs and cultural values that were considered correct. This condition concludes that information literacy about the dangers of Covid-19 in the people of Serang City still needs improvements.

Abstract

Blood type as biological information is still considered a prophecy and pseudoscience that still needs to be proven. It is the easiest and cheapest among other genetic identification tools. This study aimed to map reading material selections based on blood type personality. This study was a quantitative approach through cross-sectional survey. Identification was obtained from data in identity cards and laboratory blood type tests. The study population was 100 UPI LIS students with 80 samples of young adults aged 18-22 through random sampling with stratification. The samples were: 9 respondents with AB blood type and 25 with A blood type. Respondents of O and B blood types each followed the selection of the expected sample was 20 people. Each homogeneous sample filled out a questionnaire on reading material selection aspects. Results showed that 55.6% of the AB blood type chose non-fiction books such as 'how-to' related to hobbies, and 52% of A blood type tended to select non-fiction books that support their tasks and work. Also, 81.8% of B blood type chose fiction books and adventure stories opening up fantasy horizons, and 80% of O blood type chose books that did not always have to be brought to the big screen/filmed; however, they were recommended and told. In conclusion, this blood type personality model can identify young adult clients' profiles to develop bibliotherapy service programs in different types of libraries and make it easier for librarians and bibliotherapists to recommend reading materials suitable for the benefit of preventive-curative bibliotherapy.

Abstract

Academic libraries are the university's heart. However, studies on the relationship between library use and student performance are sparse. This study contributes to research on the relationship between library use and student performance. This study aimed to examine the relationship between library use of the Universitas Indonesia Library online (accessing through https://lib.ui.ac.id) and on-site (visiting the library) and library science undergraduate students' performance (Grade Point Average) on library science at Universitas Indonesia during pre-pandemic compared to during the pandemic. This study used a quantitative approach through survey research methods. Research respondents is 54 student that participating before and during the pandemic through data analysis chi-square and correlation analysis. The results showed a weak correlation between online and on-site library use and student performance. There was a significant relationship between online and on-site library use and demographic characteristics (gender, age, and year of enrolment).High-level students used the library more pre-pandemic than lower-level students. During the pandemic, students used electronic collections facilities outside the library website. The use of the library supports the improvement of student performance. This study contributed to introducing a data collection approach for assessing and making decisions about the library users needs, resources, and services. The study concludes that academic libraries are continuously improving their performance in contributing to achieving institutional goals and student success before and during the pandemic.

Abstract

The National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) revealed in 2016 that most government agencies' recordkeeping was inadequate. As a result, ANRI established the National Movement for the Awareness of Good Recordkeeping (GNSTA) to improve the situation. Initially, this movement used social movements as a framework to broaden its formal, emotional, and substantive dimensions. The study aimed to examine the implementation of the GN(S)TA program and consider what actions the program's designers and organizers can take to improve the program's quality. This study conducted from 2017 to mid-2019 used quatlitative methods, specifically case study and unintentional participatory observation techniques, and updated data from 2019 to 2021. This research found that he GN(S)TA program, a state-sponsored social movement model, has success made government agencies recharge their commitment to good records management. Many government agencies participated in this program's success in improving their records management quality after joining the program. That improvement indicated that government agencies' commitment to proper record management has increased based on the perspective of the formal dimension. Unfortunately, the emotional and substantial dimensions fell behind. If this situation persisted, the commitment would be unendurable. The study concludes that this state-sponsored movement program effectively increases the enthusiasm of government agencies. However, it is too focused on the formal dimension.

Abstract

The library is an essential learning resource center for schools. For this reason, every school or madrasa is required to have a library that meets national education standards. Although formal provisions require educational institutions to have a library, many schools do not yet have a library. The development of school libraries, especially elementary schools (SD), is still lacking compared to the middle school, high school, and college libraries, thus giving the impression that SD libraries are marginalized. This study explored the development constraints that led to the marginalization of elementary school libraries in Singaraja, Bali. This research used a qualitative approach in the form of multiple case studies. The data collection techniques were in-depth interviews with appointed informants, total and purposive samples, and snowball sampling. Data analysis in this study followed Peter Berger's model with conceptualization, proof, and objectivation steps. The results indicated that there were several obstacles to the development of elementary school libraries, namely (1) the dadi-dadi dogen ideology adopted by the principal; (2) the teaching and learning process is still teacher-centered; (3) a comprehensive education system; (4) unprofessional librarian; (5) the government is not in favor of the school library management policy; and (6) free school jargon. These findings prove that the general assumption about the constraints on developing school libraries due to limited financial capital is not entirely true. There are other more important factors, namely power relations related to ideology.

Abstract

The pandemic period limits every activity, including library services, causing the communication distance between users and librarians to widen. Users often forgetting to return books, so the fines accumulated, and often forget and lose borrowed books. The communication distance between librarians and library users can be narrowed through an automatic reminder system to remind users of important information regarding fines, services, and others. This study aimed to know the Telegram notification system for improving library services. Universitas Negeri Semarang also supports the use of Telegram as a notification system. This study applied the Research and Development (RnD) method in The Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS) development, supported by an integration method using Middleware Integration. The use of the paired t-test in this study showed that this reminder mechanism successfully informed library members of the time limit for borrowing books and late fees. A significant relationship exists between before and after the installation of Telegram as a useful reminder system to avoid the accumulation of fines by customers. This reminder system was also beneficial to avoid users accumulating fines, it can be seen that the number of users who are late in returning books is decreasing as the notification system is implemented. Good communication between librarians and customers through an information system intermediary improves user service.

Abstract

The core issues that are discussed in this article is the concept, the philosophical foundation and the scientific basis Information and Library Studies in a variety of perspectives. Given the information and library science is so broad, comprehensive and interdisciplinary so confusing in the placement or provision of address and its container in a particular field of science clumps. Does it make clumps of Humanities, Social Communication, Technology or to a group of Science and Mathematics. Then, whether stand-alone or as an interdisciplinary science. There are no definitive answers. Information and Library Science is formulated as a concept of interdisciplinary remember that science in the division of the classification of DDC, enter the group General Science (general science), meaning that knowledge can stand as a discipline itself, did not join the other sciences as a subdivision from other fields, so that with this paper designed and introduced scientific basis as well as notify a clear address of the place of the art. The new paradigm of Information and Library Science is a science that is stable like modern science are not looking at the world of work alone, but more towards the development of problem-solving strategies that are so extensive and complicated. As a unit of knowledge, information and library science should be independent, not attached or affixed to other disciplines.
