Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine anti-Newcastle disease virus (NDV) antibody titres in sera samples of pre-vaccinated and post-vaccinated local chickens in the villages of Lahomean, Odomau Raifun and Ritabou, Bobonaro District Timor-Leste. Eighty sera samples of pre-vaccinated and 79 samples of post-vaccinated chickens were collected from village chicken farms bred extensively in all four villages. The sampling techniques adopted were simple random and purposive sampling methods to select subjects based on predetermined criteria. Antibody titers against NDV in serum samples were examined by using hemagglutination test (HA) and hemagglutination inhibition test (HI). The data obtained in this studi were presented descriptively. The results showed that of 80 sera samples collected from pre-vaccinated chickens, 53 (66.25%) sera samples were seronegative with the antibody titers of < 23 (21 – 23) HI units and 27 (33,75%) sera samples were seropositive with antibody titers of 24 – 210 HI units. As for 79 sera samples collected from post-vaccinated chickens, 46 (57%) samples were seronegaitive with the antibody titers of 21 – 23 HI and 33 (43%) sera samples were seropositive with antibody titer of 24 – 211 HI units. The results showed that presence of anti-NDV antibody in prevaccinated chickens was very likely due to the natural infection and vaccination increased the titers and the number of seropositive chickens.

Abstract

Streptococcus suis is a gram-positive bacterium causing various diseases in pigs and a zoonosis pathogen. Therefore, an effective vaccine for S. suis is crucial to reduce the economic loss due to this pathogen. Most of the inactivated vaccines required additional substances to help increase the vaccine’s efficacy in inducing antibody titers using adjuvant. The study aimed to know the difference of primary antibody titer of inactivated S. suis vaccine with different adjuvant addition. The adjuvant employed was water in oil (w/o) Montanide ISA 78 VG, water in oil in water (w/o/w) Montanide ISA 201 VG, and gel Montanide 01 PR. The test animals were white rats intramuscularly (IM) vaccinated under a 0.5 ml dosage. Blood sampling was conducted in week-1, -2, and -3 post-vaccination. Then, the blood serum was tested using the ELISA test. Quantitative results of ELISA were observed from the optical density (OD) value measured using the ELISA reader. The results show a significant difference in the OD value with a significance value of 0.001 (P<0.01). The best antibody response was indicated by the highest OD value. Vaccine with adjuvant w/o has the highest OD value i.e. 0,175, when compared with adjuvant gel i.e. 0,143, and adjuvant w/o/w i.e 0,103.

Abstract

In general, ablation means the loss of tissue that is characterized by the presence of wounds. Skin ablation is characterized by dislodging of the skin from the tissue which causes wide open wounds. A local dog 4 months old, 4 kg body weight and male sex were examined at the Educational Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University with complaints of open wounds due to dislodged skin on the left metatarsal caused by sharp incisions with a diameter of about 3 cm. Handling the skin ablation with surgery with a skin graft technique. The wound healing of skin grafts is determined by animal care, namely by keeping the wound dressing always in dry condition, preventing animals from licking the skin of the donor, and administering anti-inflammatory syrup with amoxsan syrup for 7 days.

Abstract

Leptin is one of metabolic product that regulates hypothalamus pituitary ovaries. This study aims to determine the relationship of leptin levels during parturition with estrogen levels estrus post-partus in bali cattle. The data source of this research is bali cattle during parturition where the main blood sample is taken less than 24 hours after parturition. Continued sampling of cow's blood when showing symptoms of estrus postpartum. Determination of leptin and estrogen levels was carried out using the Direct Elisa, Double Antibody Sandwich method. Data were analyzed descriptively with the Correlation and Regression statistical tests. The results showed that the average level of leptin hormone at parturition ( ± SD) was 2.60 + 0.47 ng/ml and the average level of post-partus leptin estrus hormone ( ± SD) was 5.42 + 0.47 ng/ml. While the average levels of the hormone estrogen estrus post-partus ( ± SD) is 105.51 + 19.72 pg/ml. This shows an increase in the level of the hormone leptin from parturition to estrus post-partus which has an impact on increasing estrogen levels. By using a linear regression test it was found that leptin hormone levels had a positive effect on estrogen hormone levels. From the results of the study it can be concluded that there is a close relationship between leptin levels during parturition with estrogen levels during estrus post-partus.

Abstract

Innovation in the use of local feed is an alternative to reducing production costs in livestock business. However, feeding at different levels will affect physiological conditions such as differences in blood counts This study was conducted to determine the quality of concentrate made from local raw materials toward rice bran through a hematological profile. The observed hematological parameters were total erythrocyte, hemoglobin level, and hematocrit value. The treatment given was P0 = group of cattles that were given green feed plus 1 kg of rice bran/cattle/day; P1 = group of cattles given forage plus 1 kg of concentrate (50% substitution of corn waste and peanut shells); P2 = group of cattles given forage plus 1 kg/cattle/day of concentrate (75% substitution of corn waste and peanut shells). This study used a randomized block design. Blood is drawn through the jugular vein using a venoject. Total erythrocytes, hemoglobin levels and hematocrit values were calculated using the routine hematology examination method with a Hematology Analyzer machine. The results showed that the provision of additional feeds in the form of bran and concentrate made from local raw materials to weaning Bali cattle had no significant effect (P>0.05) on total erythrocytes, hemoglobin levels, and hematocrit values. These results indicate that concentrate made from local raw material has the potential as an alternative feed to replace rice bran without affecting the physiological conditions of the cattle.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the histologycal changes of the stomach of white rats given tape yeast. The samples used in this study were 24 female white rats aged 4-5 months, weighing 100-200 grams which were given pelleted feed with the addition of tape yeast. The sample taken was the stomach organ in the corpus region. White rats were grouped into 4 treatments and 6 replications, namely P0: control; P1: giving tape yeast 100 mg/kgBW; P2: 200 mg/kgBW of tape yeast; P3: giving tape yeast 300 mg/kgBW. White rats were dynecropsed on day 22 in all treatment groups. The gastric organs of the corpus region were taken for preparation with Haematoxylin Eosin staining. The variables observed were hemorrhage, inflammation and necrosis. The data obtained were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric statistical test. If there is a significant difference (P<0.05), the Mann-Whitney test is followed. Based on the results of the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test in all treatment groups there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between the P0 control group and the P1, P2, and P3 treatment groups used. So, it can be concluded that the use of doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kg BW has no significant effect on the damage to the gastric organs caused. This could be because the fermentation process of feed mixed with yeast in the stomach is not optimal.

Abstract

Pyometra is a hormonal disorder that causes infection so that pus accumulates in the uterus, abscesses are usually caused by excess hormone progesterone, where the hormone progesterone causes thickening of the uterine wall. Pyometra is commonly found in dogs or cats, but is more common in dogs. A cat is 9 months old, weighs 1.95 kg and is female. Checked at the Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University with complaints, the presence of runny out of animal genitals. The results of physical examinations that appear to come out of the animal's genitals, in the form of pus and stomach, look big like pregnant women. From hematological examination showed an increase in Hemoglobin 17.9 g / dL, reference values ??8.0 - 15.0 g / dL, and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration 41.4 g / dL reference values ??30.0 - 36.0 g / dL because animals lack oxygen so the hemoglobin level increases. Handling of Pyometra can be done by removing the uterus and ovary (ovariohysterectomy). Seven days postoperatively, the patient was declared cured and healthy again, with incisional wounds fused and no pus flowing out of the animal's genitals.

Abstract

Organic acids are a mix of various compounds of organic carboxylic acids and are used as an acidifier in chicken feed. Organic acids could increase the digestibility and absorption of protein in broiler chicken, because organic acids can inhibit pathogenic bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract. The increase of protein absorption can affect the level of blood urea nitrogen and creatinine in broiler chicken’s blood, which is considered parameters for kidney function. The objective of this study is to determine the Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine levels in 24 female broiler chickens in the course of 35 days of organic acids treatment. This study used an experimental method with completely randomized design (RAL) consisting of 4 treatments, the control group were only given finished feed (P0), then administered with Orgacids® as much as 0.1% (P1), 0.2% (P2), and 0.3% (P3). The results showed that the administration of organic acid had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the BUN levels in the P1, P2, and P3 groups against the P0 group. And the administration of organic acids also had no significant effect (P>0.05) on creatinine levels in the P1, P2, and P3 groups against the P0 group. It was concluded that the administration of organic acids in the feed does not affect the levels of BUN and blood creatinine in broilers significantly.
