Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze social-economic aspects of coastal community that influence mangrove forest degradation. Analysis is conducted for coastal community members who earn their living thru mangrove tree cutting activities. Method used is multiple linear regression analysis. The result shows that social factors (educational level, environmental knowledge level and cosmopolitan level) seem to have a significant effect on the degradation of mangrove forest. Increasing educational level and cosmopolitan level can reduce the level of mangrove deforestation. Economic factors (income and number of dependants) also have a significant role on the loss of mangrove forest. Thus, income improvement can reduce deforestation. Implications of this study are: (1) in order to reduce degree of mangrove forest degradation, the coastal community should be released from their economic dependency to mangrove forest and should be given better access to other various income sources. (2) to increase awareness of the importance of role and function of mangrove forest thru elucidation (extensive service) or visualization of the effect of degradation caused by deforestation activity which do not concern the sustainability and continuity of mangrove forest. (3) to manage regulation and monitoring system by regency government to mangrove forest product industry.

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to know relationship between dosage use with residue of the sidazinon insecticide in long bean that has been produced at Tunjuk Selatan village, Tabanan district, Tabanan regency. The determination of the sample of the farmer of long bean was done in proportional and purposive sampling. The sample was taken in Tabanan district, in Tabanan Regency. For the selection of village, search by 10 % from amount village exist, so five of the farmer of long bean were obtained in Tabanan district. The finding shows that residue of the sidazinon insecticide in long bean has enough strong relationship with dosage use, showed with value R : 0,707. With coefficient determination (R2) as 0,499; it mean 49,90 % residue insecticide come from dosege use of the sidazinon insecticide, while 50,1 % come from another factor. Dosage use of the sidazinon insecticide influenced at residue in long bean was significant with standard 5 %.

Abstract

Environment is a part of the child\'s life. In the environment, students live and interact in the chain of life, called ecosystems. Interdependence between biotic and abiotic environment can not be avoided. That is the law of nature that must be faced by the children as belonging to live beings part of biotic groups. During life, the child can not avoid the natural environment and socio-cultural environment. The interaction of these two different environments is always happening in filling the child\'s life. The family is the neighborhood children. Families play important roles as first and foremost educators. Habits, social attitudes, and creativity of children are affected by parents involvement. Education in this family would not be separated from environmental influences. Therefore, parenting manner is very important role in helping children for environmental preservation.

Abstract

Observation on molluscs on western coastal zone of Lembeh Strait waters, Bitung City was conducted on April 2008 and March 2009. Western coastal zone of Lembeh Strait waters has environmental degradation. Molluscs as one of occupier marine live in this area. The observation was aimed to find out an idea on the condition of molluscs at western coastal zone of Lembeh Strait waters. It was made at 5 stations. Molluscs samples in quadrant transect line were counted and identify. Trachycardium flavum (Cardiidae) class of Pelecypoda were the common and widely distributed molluscs. Molluscs community on western coastal zone of Lembeh Strait waters on medium diversity. The highest diversity index (H) (1.149) was found at Station 4 and the lowest (1.180) was found at Station 3. An evenness index (J) was 0.842 to 0.973 and richness index (D) was 43.62 to 68.82.

Abstract

The goal of research was to study alternative ways in order to increase farmers\' income, environment saving efforts in the agricultural sector, diversification of products and also to offer tourist destination. These Objectives are very important since the interest of people on agricultural economical efforts have being reduced, especially the young generation to pursue agricultural business which is inherited from generation to generation. In addition to maintain environmental quality, especially the agricultural sector which grew more and more switching functions, and to provide an alternative model of farming that has to do with tourism businesses to avoid saturation due to recent tourist products related to the needs of nature become a priorities. The results of the study showed that based on the potential relevant models, to stimulate the agricultural sector, together with efforts to maintain environmental quality, and progress associated with the tourism sector is to develop agro tourism. Many models can be developed both in the context of the open or closed nature tourism, as well as natural or artificial contexts. In order to bring in the expected goal, it is necessary to increase the quantity and quality related to human resources, infrastructure, financing and the commitment of the entire society with the government to develop agro-tourism.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine heavy metal content at water body, sediment and biota, determining plankton what overflows and parameter of water quality which not fulfill standard criterion quality of water in Estuary of Barito River. Result of research showed that heavy metal rate at body of water especially Hg (0,2753 mg/l), and Pb (0,17667 mg/l) residing at biota (Giant Prawn have accumulate by heavy metal of Hg. Pb, Cu, As, Cr6+ and Cd. Sediment residing at Estuary of Barito River have accumulate by heavy metal but still under maximum boundary which have been specified. Metal rate residing in boundary sill that is cadmium metal rate (Cd) with assess metal range average 0,5655 - 0,8891 ppm, residing in of sill which have been specified equal to 0,3 ppm. Status of water quality at station perception according to Model of STORET categorized is weight, while pursuant to Model of Environmental Quality Index ( EQI) categorized as impure territorial water.

Abstract

Fluctuation of water regimes where plant grows has been known to affect the plant chemical, nutrition compositions and plant chemical defenses, which can affect the vulnerability of plants to insect herbivores. This research aimed to compare the concentration of plant nutrition and chemical defenses of Melaleuca ercifolia grows on different water regimes, subsequently to insect herbivore attacks. The leaf total nitrogen was higher in plants growing in water fluctuated areas, therefore the insect herbivores compared to plants growing in prolong-flooded condition. Insect herbivores prefer to consume plants that are more nutritious and less affected by the plant growing conditions.
