Abstract

Community service on the decision-making process in foreign policy aims to improve awareness of high school students in Padang on the importance of foreign policy. Foreign policy is often identified with complexity and far from public sphere. The community service team expects this activity could help high school students understand the decision making process in foreign policy. The community service is conducted with lecture and role-play method of formulating foreign policy. The approach used in this program is Graham Allison’s concept regarding process of foreign policy- making. This activity is designed in several stages. In the initial stages, the team prepares working plans. The second stage is socialization and the last stage is program implementation. It can be concluded that this community service has increased the student’s understanding in regards to the importance of foreign policy. Result of this activity indicates that students’ knowledge on foreign policy is improving. This is calculated based on several indicators i.e understanding on the role of actors in formulating foreign policy, factors affecting foreign policy and impact on the state’s strategy to pursue its national interest.

Abstract

Non-destructive testing based on sound wave propagation has been used widely to estimate wood quality of standing trees. The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of the sound wave velocity in relation to pine resin productivity and resin intercellular frequency and diameter. The samples were 72 trees consisted of 36 trees which were tapped by the quarre method and 36 other trees were tapped with addition of stimulants. The speed of sound waves propagation was measured by SylvatestDuo for radial direction and longitudinal. The tapping position was determined refering to the wind direction. The resin productivity was twice for tapping with stimulant comparing to the control. The highest resin productivity was 87.31 g per harvest for tapping with stimulant and the lowest (39.86 g per harvest) for control. Statistically, there was not significant difference in sound speed for tapped position as well as for measurement before and after tapped of both radial and longitudinal testing, as well as for the anatomical properties of both of treatments. A high positive correlation was found between resin productivity and intercellular frequency for both treatments (r>0.80), however, there was not significance correlation between resin productivity and other parameters. Keywords: Pinus merkusii, resin tapping, sound wave propagation

Abstract

The study of International Relations claims that the main agenda of learning is to create world peace, but classical IR classes talk more about narratives about war. The initiation of this community service activity departed from a critique of classical IR studies, which believed that if we want peace, we must learn about peace, not war. Conflict is something natural and unavoidable. Likewise, students managing their organizations face various conflicts. Conflicts cause students to trap in physical feuds, such as brawls and beatings of students or verbally slandering or cursing. When conflicts resolve with violence, students managing their organizations have not applied the values and practices of non-violence. Understanding and managing conflict are vital for students not to become destructive. This activity targets students who are part of student organizations in the city of Padang. Activities using various methods, including material presentations, interactive discussions, and student case analysis presentations. The participants conducted an evaluation pre-test and post-test to assess the activity's effectiveness. There was a change in students' perspective and knowledge of conflict and conflicting styles at the end of the activity.

Abstract

The education system is expected to be able to prepare a learning system that is in accordance with the development of students' career needs. The system can be developed based on skills and competencies that students will also need in the future, especially in science process skills. This study aims to analyze the need for a practicum guide as a support for science process skills-based learning. The type of research conducted is descriptive qualitative research with the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model. The research variables include an analysis of teaching needs and an analysis of the suitability of Core Competencies (KI) and Basic Competencies (KD) to determine competency indicators (GPA) which will be a reference in developing practical instructions based on science process skills. Research shows that the practicum guides currently used are limited to students' ability to follow procedures and do not provide opportunities for students to design predetermined experiments. Based on the results of these studies, it can be concluded that it is necessary to develop a practical guide based on science process skills as a support for the success of chemistry learning both in product, process, and performance skills.
