Abstract

The thresher rice has developed in previous research is instrument thresher rice type hammer thresher. But the threshing not going well, Where rice stalk is still difficult to get out of the thresher. The objective of this research is to modify machine  type paddy thresher hammer . Modification is conducted by adding director channel in upper wall of threshing chamber and to change straw exiting channel near the feeder with size of 15 cm width and 19 cm height. By this method, paddy straw is expected to exit from threshing chamber and threshing process can run smoothly. Methods used is Modification tools, testing modification result, observation and data collection. Observations are made to percentages of threshed paddy grain, percentage of unthreshed paddy grain, good threshed paddy grain, percentage of damaged threshed paddy grain, threshing duration, and working capacity of the machine per hour. Abstract

Testing of a greenhouse model condensation machine to purify the sea water needs to be developed to obtain fresh water. The purpose of this research is to transform seawater using solar energy by using the greenhouse effect principle This research uses testing machine performance to get pure water potential from sea water deselination. The test result of this machine has been able to vaporize seawater in one day ranging from 421 ml-814 ml, while water that can be harvested in one day ranges from 97.5 ml – 152.5 ml. The energy efficiency gained in this machine ranged from 21.22%-46.63%, while the efficiency of the evaporation result of this machine obtained the value ranged from 18.73%-24.85%. This machine has been able to convert seawater into fresh water by using the principle of greenhouse effect but still not able to work optimally.Keywords: fresh water, greenhouse effects, seawater

Abstract

Processing of foodstuffs mostly involves temperature and water. Interaction among the product, temperature and water changes the physical and chemical properties. The aim of this research was applying the Peleg’s equation to evaluate the effect of temperature and concentration of sugar solution on the absorption of sugar into bengkuang (Pachyrrhizus erosus). This research was designed at two different variables, which were temperature and concentration of sugar solution. The temperature was seted up at three levels : 30 oC, 40 oC and 50 oC, meanwhile the concentration was made at three levels : 20,6 oBrix, 30,7 oBrix and 40,7 oBrix. Three replications were conducted in each combination of the treatments along 450 minutes immersion duration. The results showed that the soaking temperatures affected to the absorption rate of sugar solution into bengkuang. The higher the soaking temperature the higher is the absorption rate. It was occurred the physical changes of bengkuang during soaking. The dimensions of the speciments decreased during immerse in the warm sugar solution. It may caused by water in the product comes out from the body. Furthermore, it proved that coefficient k1 of Peleg’s equation relates to temperature. The increasing of temperature was followed by decreasing of k1. At 30 oC and the concentration of 20,6 oBrix, the k1 is 0,254. It decreased become 0,124 at temperature of 50 oC. The decreasing of k1 was less with increasing of the concentration. Meanwhile, the coeffients k2 decreased with increasing of the concentration. At temperature of 30 oC and concentration of 40,7 oBrix, k2 is 19,76. It decreased become 14,11 at concentration of 40,7 oBrix. The decreasing of k2 was less with increasing temperature. Abstract

Separation of paddy from empty grains and unexpected materials is one step in post harvest handlings done usually after cutting.  This step is acquired to have the high quality of paddy.  Separation that conventionally done by farmers, in general, is inefficient and can pose difficulties such us: high losses, high energy need, time consuming and depend on weather.  Application of separation machine is needed as an alternatif to overcome to those difficulties.  The purpose of this test is to determine the capacity and efficiency of work time required. The research was done in some steps: design of the equipment, manufacturing, testing and finally, data analysis.  The test was conducted in 3 levels of wind mover: 850 rpm, 1070 rpm and 1300 rpm.  Observation was focused on the percentage of empty grain, duration of separation and work capacity.  From the results, it can be concluded that the best wind mover for separation was 1070 rpm.  It could separate filled and empty grain effectively at 96,06%.  The average of work capacity of the equipment was 127,07 kg/hour.Keywords: Separation, rpm, Paddy.

Abstract

Job’s tears (Coix lacrhryma jobi L.) was a plant that came from South Asia and East Asia. The distribution of this plant was expanded to Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia. In Indonesia, Job’s tears was found in Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan. Its seeds had many benefits as herbs or plant consumption. Threshing process of this plant was still using a traditional way. This research was purposed to design and test the performance of jali thresher machine type rubber roll. This research was conducted in February 2013 to March 2013 in the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. This research procedure included several stages: design, assembly, testing results, and data analysis stage. Observations were made for machine capacity per hour, percentage of threshed seeds, and percentage of good or damaged threshed seeds. This research used 3 cylinder rotational speeds: 50 RPM, 38 RPM and 30 RPM. Results of this research indicated that this machine threshed seeds by 47 kg/ hour. Abstract

Lampung Province was one of the banana production centers areas in Indonesia, one of them is kepok banana.  Bananas don't have a long shelf life, so that it needs an alternative treatment to prolong shelf life so it can provide the value-of banana fruit.  Drying system with hybrid is an alternative option. The purpose of this study is to test the performance of the hybrid dryer shelves type for drying banana chips.  This research was conducted with three treatments, they were drying using solar energy, drying using electrical energy, and drying using solar energy and electricity, which was using 5 kg banana chips for each treatments.  The three treatments of this research showed different results.  It took 9 hours to drying banana chips until it reached the water content 10%-12% on drying using solar energy, while drying using electrical energy needed 11 hours, and 8 hours on drying using solar energy and electricity.  Energy produced on drying using solar energy amounted to 55859,52 kJ, drying using electrical energy amounted to 27680,4 kJ and drying using solar energy and electricity was 64417,17 kJ. Abstract

Corn cob is one abundant agricultural waste and potentially viable for animal feed.  Objective of this research was to test a hammer mill to crush the corn cob.  The study was made in two different rotational speeds, 800 rpm and 1400 rpm. A perforated screen (underneath the rotating hammer drum) with 1 cm hole size was used.  The test was conducted in three replications and each replication used 5 kg corn cob.  Variables observed included uniformity of grain sizes of the product and machine capacity.  The expected grain sizes ranged 3 to 7 mm.  The results showed that this machine performed better under 1400 rpm than under 800 rpm.  With 1400 rpm, the machine produced the expected grain sizes of the product about 45,57% by weight, and had a capacity about 15,62 kg/hour. Abstract

Synthetic rice made of maize flour has a great opportunity to be developed as a staple food. Peopleused to consume synthetic rice, but only limited studies reported about the preferred characteristic of synthetic rice. The purpose of this study is 1) to produce and examine the characteristic of synthetic rice including moisture content, particle size, storage time and steam duration, and 2) toobtaine the preferred sensory level of synthetic rice based on aroma, texture, flavor and color.The procedure was startedbymakingthe maize flourto produce synthetic rice using a granulator machine. The granules was then steamed and dried under the sun light.  Seventype of synthetic rice was used in this research, namely pure maize rice (100% maize flour), three mixed synthetic rice of maize flour and wheat flour, and three mixed synthetic riceofmaize flour and tapioca flour withthree different ratio 95:5, 85:75, and 75:25.). The results showed that the water content of synthetic rice was measured between 10.37 to 13.79%.  While the steaming timewas reached around 46 to 68 minutes. The rice wasable to be stored about 24-26 hour. The organoleptic testsshowed that the most favorite synthetic rice was a mixture maize rice of 95% maize flour and 5% of tapioca flour  for all level preference of the sensory test. Abstract

Porang is a type of tuber that is widely cultivated because of its high economic value. Porang tubers have good prospects to be developed as main and functional food ingredients. Processed porang tubers include porang chips, imitation rice, porang noodles, jelly and other preparations. One of the important processing of porang is the process of making porang tuber chips. Porang tuber chips can be made using a chopper machine. This study aims to test the performance of the porang tuber chopper machine. The research includes the theoretical test of the chopper machine and the actual test of the porang tuber chopper machine. The efficiency and effectiveness of the chopper also determinted. With the existence of an effective and efficient chopper machine, it can help farmers to chop porang tubers into porang tuber chips. Porang tuber chips have a higher economic value than porang tubers; with the chopper machine is expected to increase the income of porang farmers. The actual working capacity of the machine is 115kg/hour, the theoretical working capacity of the machine is 226 kg/hour and 78% for the large part and 74% for the small part, the thickness of the slices produced ranges from 3-8 mm; reached 85%.

Abstract

Analog rice can be used as a diversification and substitution of rice, in order to overcome the shortage of rice production, breadfruit become the choice in making analog rice because of its very much growth in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of tapioca flour concentration in making analog rice which is the main raw material for breadfruit flour. The process of making analog rice includes weighing the ingredients, mixing the ingredients, granulating the ingredients, and giving water. This research method is mixing breadfruit flour with tapioca flour with five levels, namely 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% tapioca flour with the testing stage is analog rice steaming, rice drying, measurement of test parameters, data and test results parameters, then the parameters observed were (water absorption, grain diameter, water absorption, bulk density and proximate). The more tapioca flour additions, the analog rice water content increased ie the first treatment was 7.11% while the fifth treatment was 7.91%. The more tapioca flour is added, the less weight percentage with grain size <2 mm while the percentage weight with 4.7 mm grain size is getting higher. Then the addition of tapioca flour to water absorption decreased the first treatment by 102.69% and the fifth treatment was 88.01%.
