Abstract

Indonesia is known as a country rich in types of building materials and technologies inherited from generation to generation. Along with the passage oftime appears the computer as a human tools. However during the materialsprocessing this computational approach is still separated. Computers are still usedas tools for drawing and not used as design tools in the design thinking process.Computational design has an ability to integrating the design focus from thematerial side, structure, and formation associated with digital fabrication. Thispaper focuses to divide concepts of tectonics as general and relate them to theunderstanding of digital perception. This paper also presents the results of a studythat has involved digital perception in the study of planar materials and wafflestructure systems from the early stages to the model of construction. Plywood isthe only material used, made with milling machines and built by students. Thisprocess introduces students to different experience of the design process.Computational design makes possibilities to integrating the design focus from thematerial side, structure, and formation associated with digital fabrication.

Abstract

Indonesia is located in a geographic area that is prone to disasters; thus, it is necessary to raise awareness about the science of disaster mitigation, including the provision of safe/suitable temporary shelter/building facilities for victims. In a number of disasters, it can be seen that confusion and access to the affected transportation will lead to difficulties in delivering disaster relief and supporting equipment to build post-disaster facilities. Therefore, we need a construction system that is easily assembled, stable, and easy to carry. In this case, the designer uses one type of shell structure, i.e. Minimum Surface principle which is the basis of the Inflatable Structure or Pneumatic Structure. By developing lightweight structures that refer to this principle, the designer can process architectural forms that are lighter and more stable. In this paper, the discussion is limited to the use of materials made from plywood based on the principle of Minimal Surface structure because this material is easily obtained and processed. The research questions of this study are how to create a fast raft construction system for post-disaster needs with plywood base material and how to process the connection system or plywood construction to have structural capability. © 2020 Stephanus Evert Indrawan, Gervasius Herry Purwoko, Tri Noviyanto P. Abstract

The number of post-use or damaged furniture products before their time becomes a problem especially for ecological problems in the work environment. This research tries to explore the creativity of product design based on the principles derived from the concept of green design. One of the principles of green design derived is the upcycle concept. Through the upcycle concept approach, this research tries to construct ex office material into an explorative and ecological new design. This research uses a case study of ex office / campus furniture products that are no longer in use due to damage. The design model based on upcycle concept and formalistic design is used as a basis for design and to analyze design results. The results of this study in addition to creating explorative design products, also explain the principles of ecological regenerative design values, namely optimizing the use of waste materials, durability of product life that can be extended, as well as supporting environmental protection and increasing product values and aesthetics.

Abstract

The lightweight structure system is an effort to optimize the structure to distribute the load efficiently. Unfortunately, students often have difficulty imagining the learning outcomes application in the real world when studying light structural systems. However, the use of the scalar model can still explain several essential aspects of a lightweight structural system, one of which is the effect of connection and formation of material components on the structural capability. Therefore, this paper aims to bridge the learning process by utilizing digital devices from the concept stage of structural modeling with the help of software (Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, and Kangaroo) to the realization process using laser cutting. The method used is a semi-experimental method that applies Hooke's law principle, which produces a shell structure system with a digital fabrication approach that utilizes a lightweight material, namely, corrugated paper board, as the primary material. This paper concludes that digital technology and digital fabrication processes can help students understand the concept of lightweight structures because they can use computer simulations, cut them using laser cutting, and assemble them in the field in a series of simultaneous processes.

Abstract

In today’s world, particularly in Indonesia, there are increasing in the development and the necessity of interior design’s business. It is mainly affected by changes in societies’ lifestyles and the expansion of the property markets along with investors began to extend to outside Java. Numerous problems encountered by the societies associated with the function and quality of interior space environments. The author aims to fulfill societies’ requirements through interior design consultant; named MYC. MYC assists and provides solutions to clients, through the results of consultation and design in accordance with the clients’ specifications, especially in the area of Makassar and Manado. Client satisfaction is the main goal of MYC, thus, MYC improves the quality of life through design is a solution to the problems faced.EbenHaezar’s Kindergarten School in Manado is one of MYC’s design implementation. The kindergarten has a concept of Fun, Balancing and Intelligence, where this concept offers a balance between learning and play for children that are identical to playing and learning. Fun concept is supported by the use of shape and color in every room that aims to brighten the atmosphere of the school considering the building is dominantly occupy with children around two to six years old. In addition, warm and safe concepts are emphasized by applying material that is warm natural, such as on the floor using wood vinyl flooring as to create coziness to the children to feel like their own house.
