Abstract

The abundance of marine wealth in West Sumatra has not been maximally utilized even though the pattern of community fish consumption in West Sumatra has been declared to have increased in the last 10 years. This is caused by several factors such as inadequate management of the empowerment of marine and fisheries potentials, limited fishing and processing technology, and dependence on climate in Indonesia. Bungus is one of the areas in Padang City that has quite high fisheries resources. The composition of landed fish species is generally dominated by large pelagic species such as tuna, skipjack, cob, black stick and so on. Existing fishery products in the Kelurahan Bungus Barat include fresh fish and frozen fish. Non-export quality fresh fish products are distributed for public consumption in West Sumatra and the surrounding area. Export quality fish products are distributed to Japan and America. Based on the results of a questionnaire analysis to respondents in the West Bungus area, the conclusion obtained is that the community has a good pattern of fish consumption because of public awareness of fish nutrition besides the potential of the home industry of processed fish products in the Bungus Barat Village is also quite high because it is supported by the government and abundance of fish in the area.

Abstract

One of the important processes of cocoa plants growing is pruning. It aims to eliminate sick, broken, or the appearance of water buds disturbing the cacao production. The period of pruning is varios. The various periods of pruning lead to leave wide waste of leaves, stems, and twigs. Yet the waste would not been used to other activities, only a small portion of the waste used as natural fuel (stems and twigs) and cocoa leaves waste as animal feed. Phytochemicals naturally present in every part of plants range from leaves, stem bark, fruits to roots. Secondary metabolites are natural products from plants which include alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, terpenoid, sapponin compounds, etc. This study performed some phytochemical characterisations. It have confirmed that cacoa leaves consist some of bioactives compounds which are potential for furhter activities in pharmaceutical disease.

Abstract

Ruku-ruku leaves are used to remove distinctive odors from fish in some cuisine of West Sumatra. The characteristic odor comes from secondary metabolites especially essential oils. Therefore, secondary metabolites in ruku-ruku leaves have the potential to be further investigated as a source of bioactive compounds. The phytochemical screening of ruku-ruku leaves is a preminilary qualitative test that needs to be done to maximise its function as a medicinal plant. Based on the result data, there are some different result of flavonoid, steroids, and triterpenoids identification. Ruku-ruku leaves from Pesisir Selatan and Padang Panjang shows less flavonoid compounds tham Payakumbuh, Batusangkar, and Lubuk Alung. Both of this city and Payakumbuh also gives less steroids and triterpenoids. The factor influencing this result is caused by several factors, namely temperature, humidity, light exposure, and salinity.

Abstract

Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia sp.) is useful as aromatherapy, cosmetic ingredients, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and an anticancer, but essential oils are generallyunstable, susceptible to high temperatures, and easily oxidized. Encapsulation provides asolution to the problem. β-cyclodextrin is a good coating for the encapsulation of essentialoils. Research has been conducted to determine the complex stability of inclusions with avariety of kneading times. FT-IR analysis showed that there was a shift in the wavelengthbetween the parent molecule of β-cyclodextrin and the inclusion complex, namely theincrease of the hydroxyl group (-OH) in the inclusion complex so that the widening of theabsorbance band occurred. The melting point of the inclusion complex is almost close tothe pure melting point of β-cyclodextrin (>290ºC), the melting point of the inclusioncomplex with variations in kneading time 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutesrespectively 290ºC, 286ºC, and 278ºC. This high melting point shows inclusion complexesthat are stable and not easily damaged. Keywords: encapsulation, frankincense, β-cyclodextrin, kneading, stability.

Abstract

The leaves of ruku-ruku (Ocinum Tenuiflorum contain secondary metabolites in the form of essential oils which can be used as medicinal compounds. Ruku- ruku essential oil  (Ocinum Tenuiflorum) is useful as an aromatheraphy, cosmetic ingredient, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and as an anticancer, however essential oils are unstable, susceptible to high temperatures, and easily oxidized. For that we need encapsulation with a coating material that can provide a solution to these problems. β-siklodekstrin is a good coating for essential oil encapsulation. Research has been conducted to prevent the disruption of inclusion complexes with vrying stirring time. FT-IR analysis showed that there was a shift in wavelength between the parent molecule β-siklodekstrin and the inclusion complex, namely an increase in the inclusion complex resulting in a widening of the absorbance band. The stability of the inclusion complexes formed can be seen from the melting point of the inclusion complex which is almost close to the melting of β-siklodekstrin cyclodextrin (> 290ºC), the melting point of the inclusion complex with variations in the stirring time of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes respectively  287ºC, 280ºC, dan s278ºC. This high melting points indicates a stable inclusion complex that does not break down easily.

Abstract

Abstract — Research has been carried out on the study of the Pb(II) association complex using KI and Rhodamine B. This study aims to find the optimum conditions for the Pb(II) association complex such as iodine concentration, solution pH, and Rhodamine B concentration. The measurement method used is the UV spectrophotometry method. -Vis and AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer). Pb(II) is reacted with excess iodine to form an anion complex (PbI4)2-. The anion complex formed is then reacted with a Rhodamine B cation complex (RB+ ) to form an association complex [RB]2[PbI4]. The results showed that the optimum condition of iodine for the formation of the anion complex (PbI4)2-  at a time of 2 hours, a concentration of 0.4 M with an absorbance of 0.1069 A at a maximum wavelength of 266 nm. While the optimum conditions for the association complex [RB]2[PbI4]2- occurred at a wavelength of 555 nm with an absorbance of 0.3348 A, pH 5 with an absorbance of 3.4101 A and a concentration of Rhodamine B 0.001% with an absorbance of 2.2798 A. The resulting association complex contacted with Pb(NO3)2- at a concentration of 0.01 ppm succeeded in concentrating by obtaining a concentration of 0.7419 ppm and an absorbance value of 0.0108 A. So that a concentration factor of 74.19 times was obtained.
