Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah teknik mind mapping dapat meningkatkan secara signifikan dalam kemampuan menulis siswa khususnya teks deskripsi. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa tingkat satu SMA. Data diperoleh dari nilai pretest dan posttest dalam bentuk esai. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik mind mapping meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskripsi. Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik mind mapping dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa.  Abstract. This research aimed to find out whether the mind mapping technique significantly improved the students’ ability in writing descriptive texts. The approach of the research was quantitative. The subjects were 30 students of the first grade of SMA. The data were collected through both the pretest and the posttest, in a form of writing an essay. The result showed that the use of mind mapping technique improved the students’ ability in writing descriptive texts at the significant level 0.05. This indicates that mind mapping technique can help the students to improve their writing skill. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi pembelajaran bahasa yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa Thailand dalam memperlajari Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil dari data penelitian menemukan bahwa strategi belajar yang dipakai oleh mahasiswa Thailand dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris lebih rendah dari pada bahasa Indonesia. Dari hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajar bahasa akan menggunakan strategi pembelajaran yang berbeda pada seting yang berbeda pula. Seting pembelajaran yang tidak formal akan dapat memberikan kesempatan yang lebih untuk memberikan pembelajaran yang alami dari pada pembelajaran formal. Oleh karena itu, guru bahasa Inggris sebaiknya menjadikan strategi pembelajaran bahasa sebagai bahan pertimbangan dalam menyusun materi pengajaran dan latihan bahasa agar pembelajaran bahasa dapat lebih dioptimalkan.The objective of this research is to investigate the language learning strategies used by Thai students in learning English and Indonesian. This research used the descriptive qualitative method in collecting and analyzing the data. The result showed that average mean score of the use of language learning strategies in English is lower than in Indonesian and there are significant differences in language strategies used by the Thai students in learning English and Indonesian. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students used different language strategies in different setting. The informal setting in which language learning can naturally happen will give more chance for language learning to use language strategies than in formal setting. Therefore, it is better for English teachers and the students to consider the use of the language learning strategies and design the teaching instruction and activities based on the use of language learning strategies so that the teaching learning process can be optimized.Keywords: language learning strategies, learning english, learning indonesian.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out (i) how the students’ anxiety in speaking after being corrected through teacher-correction strategy, and (ii) how the students’ anxiety after being corrected through peer-correction strategy. This study was a quantitative which used the one-shot case study design. Then, two sets of questionnaire were used as the research instruments. It was conducted in third  grade of Senior High School 1 Belalau. The result shows that the students’ anxiety is lower after being corrected through teacher-correction strategy. Furthermore, the students anxiety is not lower after being corrected by peers. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan dalam pencapaian kosa kata antara siswa yang diajar dengan strategi bagian kata yang dimodifikasi berdasarkan pada pendekatan interaktif dan strategi bagian kata, dan untuk menyelidiki keterlibatan siswa dalam kelas kosa kata. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas dua SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik dalam pencapaian kosa kata antara siswa yang diajar dengan strategi bagian kata yang dimodifikasi berdasarkan pendekatan interaktif dan strategi bagian kata. Ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi pengajaran kosa kata adalah salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi prestasi kosa kata siswa. Selain itu, penggunaan strategi bagian kata yang dimodifikasi berdasarkan pendekatan interaktif dalam pengajaran kosakata dianggap lebih efektif untuk mendorong siswa untuk terlibat dalam proses kegiatan belajar mengajar daripada penggunaan strategi bagian kata. This present study is aimed to find out the difference in vocabulary achievement between students who are taught with the modified word part strategy based on interactive approach and the word part strategy, and to investigate students’ engagement in vocabulary class. The subjects of this research were the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. The result showed that there was a statistically significant difference in vocabulary achievement between students who were taught with the modified word part strategy based on interactive approach and the word part strategy. It indicates that the vocabulary teaching strategy is one of the factors which affects the students’ vocabulary achievement. Furthermore, the use of modified word part strategy based on interactive approach in teaching vocabulary is regarded as being more effective to encourage students to be involved in the process of teaching learning activities than the use of word part strategy.Keywords : Interactive approach, vocabulary, word part strategy.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether there is a significant difference in students’ writing achievement after the implementation of Think-Pair-Share technique and to know the students’ perception toward the implementation of the technique. One group pretest and posttest design and one-shot case study design were the approaches of this research. The instruments were writing tests and questionnaire. The result shows that there is a significant difference in students writing achievement on analytical exposition text after the implementation of Think-Pair-Share technique. The evidence can be seen from the result of analysis where the significant value is .000, the comparison between t-value and t-table (9.6962.034), and the mean of the score in pretest and posttest which increase 9.4 points. Furthermore, the results of the investigation on students’ perception were also found that the students had a positive perception since the gained percentage is 80,22%. doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i3.202104

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mencari tahu apakah pembelajaran berdasarkan Natural Approach mampu meningkatkan pencapaian menulis siswa. Penelitian ini menerapkan desain kuantitatif kuasi-eksperimental dengan grup pre-test post-test yang hanya satu. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan di dalam pencapaian itu. Mempertimbangkan penemuan ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa aktifitas-aktifitas itu menguntungkan untuk siswa dalam hal pencapaian menulis. Oleh karenanya, guru dan perumus kurikulum diharapkan melihat Natual Approach sebagai pendekatan yang seharusnya dipertimbangkan, terutama jika tujuannya adalah membuat pencapaian menulis siswa lebih baik. Namun demikian, harus dicatat bahwa, dikarenakan keterbatasan yang dimiliki penelitian ini, penelitian yang lebih jauh perlu dilaksanakan, terutama, penelitian yang berkaitan dengan penerapan jangka panjang dari Natural Approach, skill dan level lainnya.This research aimed at finding out if Natural Approach facilitates students to improve their writing achievement. It applied the quasi-experimental quantitative design with the single-group pretest-posttest. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the writing achievement with the significant level 0,05. This indicates Natural Approach is beneficial for students in terms of writing achievement improvement. Therefore, the teachers and curriculum formulators are expected to perceive Natural Approach as an approach that should be taken into account, particularly if the purpose is to make students’ writing achievement better. Nevertheless, it should be noted that, due to the limitations of this research, some further research needs to be conducted, in particular, the research with respect to the long-term application of Natural Approach, other skills, and levels.Keywords: Natural approach, writing achievement, writing skill.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah ada hubungan antara motivasi, penguasaan kosakata, dan pemahaman membaca siswa. Desain penelitian ini kuantitatif menggunakan ex post facto designs. Peneliti menggunakan sampel penelitian sebanyak 28 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuesioner motivasi, tes kosa kata, dan tes pemahaman membaca. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan Pearson Product Moment Correlation di SPSS 17.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai r dari motivasi and pemahaman membaca, penguasaan kosa kata dan pemahaman membaca adalah .862 dan .844. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang berarti antara motivasi, penguasaan kosa kata dan pemahaman membaca siswa. Semakin tinggi motivasi dan penguasaan kosa kata, maka semakin tinggi pemahaman membaca siswa.The purpose of this study is to find out whether there is a significant correlation between students motivation and vocabulary mastery toward their reading comprehension or not. It is quantitative research that applied ex post facto designs. The researcher employed 28 students of SMPN 31 Bandar Lampung as sample. The instrument of this research was in the form of motivation questionnaire, vocabulary test and reading comprehension test. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS 17.0. The result showed that r of students motivation and reading comprehension, and students vocabulary mastery and students reading comprehension were .862 and .844 respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a positive correlation between students motivation and vocabulary mastery toward their reading comprehension. The higher the students motivation and vocabulary mastery are, the higher the students reading comprehension achievement is.Keyword: motivation, reading comprehension, vocabulary mastery

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan dalam pencapaian berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan media realia. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas XI IPS3 sebagai kelas perlakuan yang terdiri dari 28 siswa. Penelitian ini menerapkan model kuantitatif. Penulis melakukan pretest sekali, tiga kali perlakuan, dan sekali posttest. Paired sample t-test digunakan untuk menganalisis data dan uji hipotesa dihitung dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 16.00 pada tingkat signifikan p0.05. Nilai rata-rata meningkat yakni dari 40.07 menjadi 66.71. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa tes dua ekor p=0.000 dan tingkat signifikan adalah jika p0.05 sehingga hal itu menandakan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa setelah mereka diajarkan dengan menggunakan realia.This study aimed to know whether there was any significant effect on students speaking achievement after being taught by using realia. The research was conducted at XI IPS3 as experimental class that consisted of 28 students. This research applied quantitative design. The writer administered one time of pretest, three times of treatments, and one time of posttest. Paired sample t-test was used to analyze the data and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 16.00 at the significant level of p0.05. The mean score increased from 40.07 up to 66.71. The result of hypothesis testing showed that the significant 2 tailed is p=0.000 and the level of significant is if p0.05. It means there was a significant improvement of students speaking achievement after they are taught by using realia.Keywords: achievement, effect, realia, speaking, teaching

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui proses negosiasi makna dan meneliti kesadaran bahasa siswa selama proses negosiasi makna dengan menekankan pada perbedaan tingkat kecakapan siswa. Subjek penelitian adalah enam siswa SMA. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah studi kasus. Temuan menunjukan bahwa siswa menggunakan berbagai cara untuk mengekspresikan setengah atau seluruh kurangnya pemahaman mereka dan respon dari sinyal yang diberikan lawan bicara. Selanjutnya, siswa membuat banyak kesalahan dalam proses interaksi yang mengindikasikan siswa dengan kecapakan yang berbeda memiliki kesadaran yang rendah (39,5%) terhadap kesalahan lawan bicara. Sisanya, (60,5%) menindikasikan siswa tidak sadar kesalahan lawan bicara yang tidak diperbaiki. Oleh karena itu, tidak ada jaminan bahwa negosiasi makna dapat membantu siswa untuk mendapat input yang komprehensif jika siswa memiliki kesadaran rendah terhadap bahasa yang dipelajari.The research aimed to find out the process of negotiation of meaning and investigate students’ awareness during negotiation of meaning process by emphasizing students’ language awareness with different level of proficiency. The subjects were six senior high school students.This research was a case study. The findings showed that the students used various ways to express their partial or total lack understanding and react to the interlocutor’s signal. Furthermore, the students made many mistakes on the process of interaction which indicated the students with different level of proficiency had a low awareness (39.5%) to interlocutor mistakes. The rest, (60.5%) indicated the students’ unawareness because all mistakes made by interlocutor were not corrected. Therefore, there was no guarantee that interaction focused on negotiation of meaning could help students to obtain comprehensible input if the participants had a low awareness to language learnt. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah ada peningkatan pada kemampuan siswa dalam menulis setelah penerapan picture series sebagai media dalam pembelajaran menulis teks recount. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian ekperimen. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 36 siswa dari kelas X IPS 3 di SMAN 1 Pesisir Tengah Krui. Tes menulis recount dilakukan sebagai alat dalam pengumpulan data. Tes tersebut diberikan untuk melihat sejauh mana peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount setelah diadakan perlakuan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan paired sample t-test dengan tingkat signifikan level p0.05 menggunakan SPSS versi 16.0. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada kemampuan siswa menulis. Hal ini menandakan bahwa picture series dapat di terapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa. The aim of this study was to find out whether there is an improvement of the students’ writing ability after the implementation of picture series as a media in teaching writing in recount text. This research was an experimental study. The subjects of this reasearch were 36 students of class X IPS 3 at SMAN 1 Pesisir Tengah Krui. The writing tests of recount were administered in collecting the data. The tests were given to see how far the improvement of the students’ recount text writing ability after the treatment. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test with the significant level p0.05 through SPSS version 16.0. The result reveals that there is an improvement of the students’ writing ability. This suggests that teaching writing using picture series facilitates the students to improve their writing ability. Keywords: writing ability, recount text, picture series
