Self-assessment of oral hygiene affects the behavior. Adolescent oral hygiene plays an important role until adulthood thus still needs parental attention. This study aims to determine self-assessment and behavior of oral hygiene in adolescents and mothers, as well as to analyze the correlation. Method: A correlation study with cross sectional design. The population was junior high school students and their mothers. Random group methods were used for subject determination, the total sample used was 186 students and their mothers. Data were obtained using Oral Hygiene Behavior (OHB) Index and self-assessed oral hygiene questionnaire, then tested with Spearman correlation. Results: OHB index of adolescents and parents were 8,00 and 8,22 (moderate category). The average self-assessed oral hygiene score of adolescents in the good category (48,9%) and mothers in the fair category (53,2%). Analysis of the relationship between behavior and self-assessment of oral hygiene showed no significant correlation with adolescent coefficient correlation (r) 0,038; p=0.603 and mothers (r) 0,042; p=0,569.  Correlation tests of oral hygiene behavior and self-assessment showed significant results with behavior p=0,013; r=0,181 and self-assessment p=0,001; r=0,274. Conclusion: There is no association between behavior with self-assessed oral hygiene in both adolescents and mothers, but there is a correlation between oral hygiene behavior and self-assessment between adolescents and mothers. Keywords: Oral hygiene, behavior, toothbrushing, self-assessment, adolescent

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Dentists play a significant role in preventing the transmission of 2019-nCoV. Recommended infection control measures during dental practice can block the route of person-to-person transmission. Dentists and their personnel are used to assess the risk of cross-infection. This study aimed to obtain dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of licensed dentists using the convenience sampling technique. The minimum sample size was counted using the formula for a descriptive analysis of one group with the expected proportion of 50% and the confidence level of 95%, and obtained 407 respondents from 31 provinces. Data was collected using a questionnaire distributed via a shortened link. 99.75% of respondents knew personal protective equipment, but only 84.28% knew the proper removal procedure. 99.75% of respondents knew about dental devices that cause aerosols, and all respondents knew about social and physical distancing. Result: Dentists’ attitudes regarding personal protective equipment were that they needed and maintained it during the pandemic. All respondents stated that social and physical distancing was critical and must be maintained while providing health services. Regarding their practices, all respondents did social and physical distancing in their daily lives and during dental procedures. Conclusion: Dentists' knowledge is already good in several ways, but with several matters that still need to be improved, their attitudes and practices are good criteria. Keywords: smart Odontogram; medical record; application; usability testing; user’s experience

Abstract

Teledentistry has gained an increasing popularity among dentists as an alternative innovative solution to minimize the risk of the transmission of COVID-19 and other infections. Dentists at the Bandung community health center have started implementing teledentistry since the government issued a reference for dental and oral health services during the pandemic. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of teledentistry in community health centers based on the references issued by the government. The population consisted of dentists who implemented teledentistry during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Bandung community health centers. There were 26 respondents as the research samples who were selected using a non-probability sampling technique. This was cross-sectional descriptive research which used an online questionnaire regarding the implementation of teledentistry based on the Technical Guidelines for Dental and Oral Health Services from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The implementation of teledentistry includes teleconsultation, telediagnosis, teletriage, telemonitoring, teleeducation, communication tools, provision of prescriptions and referrals, service fees, and medical records. The data analysis was carried out by presenting the results of the teledentistry implementation, namely the types of teledentistry implemented by the dentists were teleconsultation 100%, telediagnosis 92.3%, teletriage 76.9%, telemonitoring 7.7%, teleeducation 92.3%; 100% carried out teledentistry via short messages, 76.9% had given prescriptions, and 80.7% had given referrals, 84.6% did not charge any service fee, and only 57.6% recorded medical records. The implementation of the teledentistry services during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Bandung Community Health Centers has not been optimal because the regulation has not been well socialized. In addition, there has been no legal certainty and laws governing teledentistry in Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Oral Health Literacy (OHL) plays an important role in reducing the gap in promoting oral health. Oral health literacy of mothers is important due to maternal OHL can affect the family's oral health, especially in children. Sufficient OHL of mothers also help strengthen their capacities to improve their own and their children's oral health. The purpose of this study was to analyze the oral health literacy level of mothers and its relationship to the oral hygiene behavior and self-reported oral health status in the sociodemographic scope. Methods: The type of research was correlational analytics with cross-sectional techniques. The samples were 158 mothers, collected using purposive sampling in Parigi District, Pangandaran Regency. Data were collected using the Health Literacy in Dentistry (HeLD-14) questionnaires which had been cross-adapted and included questions to assess oral hygiene behaviors with the Indonesian version of the oral hygiene behavior index. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test and independent sample t-test. Results: The majority of mothers had a good educational level and did not get employment, and had a good level of oral health literacy, with an average score of 49.63±7.16. Dental hygiene behaviors were in the good category with a mean score of 3.13±0.82 and the results of self-assessment mostly stated that the oral and dental conditions were in a proper state. The results of the OHL correlation tests with oral hygiene behaviors and self-reported oral health status showed significant relations with low correlations (p=0.04; r=0.16) and (p=0.01; r=0.21). Conclusion: Mothers’ oral health literacy level is in good category and there are relations between oral dental health literacy with oral hygiene behaviors and self-reported oral health status. Keywords: oral health literacy, HeLD-14, oral hygiene behavior, sociodemographic, mother, oral health status

Abstract

Teledentistry is a dental health service that provides consultation, guidance, or education remotely using information technology. Perception and knowledge play an essential role in the implementation of teledentistry. The purpose of this study was to explore the development of dentists' perceptions and knowledge of the concept of teledentistry. This study used a scoping review method based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. Screening and study selection were carried out using the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-Scr). Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, Science Direct, and EBSCOHost with keywords and inclusion criteria, hand searching, and viewing the list of selected article references. There were 23 articles analyzed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Changes in dentists' perceptions of teledentistry would help shorten waiting list, reduce costs for dental practice, additional visits to take photographs, and additional costs to provide facilities/ equipment for teledentistry before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Three articles (2015-2016) state that most dentists did not know or have little knowledge about teledentistry. Nine articles published during the pandemic revealed that the majority of dentists had knowledge of teledentistry. The results of this study found that developments in dentists’ perception, namely teledentistry would help shorten waiting list, reduce costs for dental practice, the need for additional visits to take photographs, and additional costs to provide facilities/ equipment for teledentistry. The level of knowledge of dentists about teledentistry increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
