Abstract

The formation of coastal area is influenced by sedimentation process. The sedimentation process along the coastal line in the past one can be explained by studying existence of paleochannels located around the area. Deposition of the sediment along the coast is carried by river activities in the past. We have investigated paleochannel structure in Ulee Kareng, Banda Aceh using electrical resistivity tomography survey. The measurements were performed along two profiles with 240 meters and 2 meters spacing between electrodes crossing the paddy. The method measured apparent resistivity data along the profiles. The 2D resistivity models were inverted from the apparent resistivity data using Res2Div program. The inverted models clearly show indication of paleochannel structure based on distribution of resistivity values within the subsurface. The paleochannel area was characterize by high resistivity i.e. 15.2–31.6 Ω.m.

Abstract

Studies on impact of variation of carbon monoxide concentration to air temperature have been conducted at Simpang Lima, Banda Aceh. Objectives of this research are to determine the level of emissions of carbon monoxide from motor vehicles, to study the fluctuations of air temperature in the area, and to analyze the impact of increasing carbon monoxide concentration to the air temperature at Simpang Lima Banda Aceh during 2010. Concentration of carbon monoxide and air temperature were recorded by Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) device installed at Simpang Lima Banda Aceh. The result shows that carbon monoxide concentration increases as well as number of vehicles passing the area. Change of the concentration in the air is also influenced by temperature variability in the research area. For the temperature, beside affected by carbon monoxide concentrations are also influenced by weather factors such as solar radiation, wind speed and precipitation. However, levels of carbon monoxide concentration at Simpang Lima, Banda Aceh are considerably safe for the environment, i. e. less than 100 ppm.

Abstract

Total magnetic field data were acquired using Proton Precision Magnetometer instrument. 195 stations were measured on the Weh Island that cover about 156,3 km2. The total magnetic field data were corrected by diurnal and International Geomagnetic Reference Field corrections in order to obtain total magnetic field anomaly data. The total magnetic field anomaly data were transformed to the pole since the data were measured at low lattitude geomagnetic area. The contour patterns of the total magnetic field anomaly reduced to the pole were used to identify the Weh Island's subsurface structures. The contour patterns are in agreement with the map of the Sumatera Fault on Weh Island. Both maps show NW-SE structures dominated the area those are corresponded to the local faults. Abstract

Hospital is one of the most important locations during a natural disaster happen. Natural disasters can be a serious situation for hospitals dealing with the number of casualties and therefore a specific hospital readiness is required. To know the preparedness of human resources in hospital against the threat of earthquake disaster, A research has been done at oral dental hospital of syiah kuala university. A total of 83 respondents were included in the questionnaires covering 69 clinical students, 8 faculty members, 3 medical officers and 3 medical personnel. Furthermore, in-depth interviews were conducted on five representatives from each of these sections for information and the results of the questionnaire given. The data completion instrument used is parameter questionnaire and index preparedness level that has been issued by LIPI-UNESCOISDR. The results show that human resource preparedness on the knowledge parameter is ready in the index of categories, while other parameters such as policy and strategy, emergency response plans, earthquake systems, and resource mobilization are on a category index not ready until almost ready. The results of interviews and observations also support the results of questionnaires that have been filled by the respondents. Thus, human resources preparedness at oral and dental hospital of syiah kuala university to the threat of earthquake disaster is in the index category less ready. This happens because the policies made to deal with the earthquake disaster are still minimal, the lack of sosialisation, training and the availability of special funding allocations to support the preparation of disaster emergency response. To improve human resource preparedness, it is necessary to evaluate thoroughly by forming a team and preparing disaster management procedures, and increasing socialization to all staff and clinic students.

Abstract

There are two major faults in Pulau Weh (Weh Island): Sabang fault and Seuke fault. This research is conducted in Pulau Weh, Sabang, Province of Aceh to map the distribution of major and minor fault lines in that area and analyze the conformity of the development plan to the existing active fault lines based on Spatial Planning and Territory. The fault lines mapping process based on secondary data published by Directorate of Mineral Resource Inventory, Geothermal sub-directorate and fault line. The fault lines distribution then compared with the data from government policy document and the Spatial Planning and Territory of Sabang that issued by Sabang government, which provided detailed information about the development process and the long-term development plan of Sabang. The analysis more focused on how development distribution and development planning of Sabang based on disaster mitigation in the future. The result shows that most of spatial pattern and structure set in Spatial Planning and Territory by the Sabang City government are located on active fault which can become disaster-prone areas. The process of development planning in Sabang so far has not studied the potential of development conformity and the distribution of active faults in Sabang. Ie Meulee, Ujong Kareung, and Anoe Itam are the area that can use as the alternative area because they not traversed by the major and the minor faults.

Abstract

Dimensionality of magnetotelluric transfer functions have been analyzed crossing the Sumatran Fault System at Aceh segment. The research was aimed to determine strike direction of the fault system using magnetotelluric transfer function data. We used Phoenix Geophysics MTU-5A equipment in range frequency 5A equipment in range frequency 0.86-320 Hz for data measurement. Collection of data was performed along two profiles with spacing between stations vary from 7 to 80 Km. The first profile started 94.5 Km from Aceh Jaya District and ended at Pidie District. The second profile started 16.5 Km from Aceh Jaya District and ended at Bireuen District. The data were analyzed by using Zhang et al. (1989) method to calculate Swift's skew and strike direction. Based on the calculation, we found that the Swift's skew values were generally less than 0.1, which were usually the overall structure of local and regional and they could be viewed as a 1D or 2D, and the values above 0.1 were considered as 3D effects or noises. Furthermore, the average strike has 0º or 90º angle. The data showed that geoelectrical strikes of both profiles were in agreement with the geological structure of the fault system. In order to get image of the 2D resistivity model of the area, we had inverted the magnetotelluric data showed that geoelctrical strikes of both profiles were in agreement with the geological structure of the fault system. In order to get image of the 2D resistivity model of the area, we had inverted the magnetotelluric data using MT2DinvMatlab (Lee et al., 2009). The model showed clearly position and depth of the fault lines along the profiles.
