Abstract

The twinning cow is presumable have difference in blood protein typology with the single cow. Thestudy investigated blood protein polymorphism in twinning and single of ongole grade and Simmentalcrossbred cows. The study used four twinning versus eight single ongole grade and seven twinning versussix single Simmental crossbred cows. Blood samples were analyzed by using marker ExactPro BroadRange (10-245kDa) and Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate-polyacrilamide Gel Electrophoresis method, to estimatethe loci of albumin (Alb), post-albumin (Pa), ceruloplasmin (Cp), transpherrin (Tf), and amylase-I (Amy-I).The genetic variation was analyzed based on the value of gene frequency, individual heterozigosity andaverage heterozigosity. In this study the twinning ongole grade cows had lower average heterozigosity(0.46) than the single ongole grade cows (0.49). The twinning Simmental crossbred cows had lower averageheterozigosity (0.35) than the single Simmental crossbred cows (0.40). The average heterozigosity ofongole grade cows had higher value than Simmental crossbred cows. The average heterozigosity rangedfrom 0.35-0.49, which was indicated high genetic variation in all cows. Higher gene frequency of allelealbumin A than albumin B influences the twinning trait in ongole grade and Simmental crossbred cows.

Abstract

Objective of this research was to determine the effectiveness of various culture mediums on thecleavage to morula in in vitro embryo culture of ovine. A total of 1.064 zygotes (fertilized oocytes) were grown in three kinds of different embryo culture medium, which were Tissue Culture Medium 199 (TCM-199) (T1), TCM-199 + 17â-estradiol (T2) and TCM-199 + co-culture of Fallopian Tube Epithelial Cell (FTEC) (T3). Data were analyzed using a completely randomized design with ANOVA analysis and HonestlySignificant Difference test. The variable observed were the percentage of embryo cleavage and morula. Results showed that T3 had the highest percentage (72.45%) of the cleavage occurred in zygotes cultured in the TCM-199 + FTEC co-culture medium, as well as embryo growth to the morula stage (75.75%). Incontrast, zygotes cultured in T1 and T2 had lower cleavage and lower morula development than T3, as much as 27.38%; 47.82% and 58.15%; 66.66%, respectively. In conclusion, TCM-199 + FTEC co-culture medium is the best medium for embryo culture.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between body weight of does with litter size, birth weight and mortality in New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits. The research was conducted at the Central Breeding and Raising Non Ruminant Livestock unit Balekambang, Surakarta, Central Java. The material used in this study was 35 does that had sexual maturity and have given birth at least once aged maximum 3 years old. In addition, the study also used 7 bucks aged approximately 2 years. Data were analysed using simple linear regression analysis. The study found that the weight of the does had a very weak correlation value to litter size, birth weight and mortality of young rabbits. Keywords: Rabbits, New Zealand White, body weight, litter size

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: The aims of this research was known comparison the appearance of aggressive behavior of male Timor deers reared in maintaining females and territories at captivity, between the time of day time (diurnal) and night phase (nocturnal) seen from the duration, frequency, sequence and interval aggresive behavior. Methods: This observational research used the observation focal animal sampling method, by directly observing the aggressive behavior of 4 male Timor deers in a good condition, have hard antlers and maintained at location with the same management and conditions. The duration of observations was 24 hours and carried out for 7 days. The parameters observed included the duration, frequency and interval of aggressive behavior male Timor deers. The data analysis used was the non-parametric statistical test Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The results showed that there were significant differences in the four aggressive behavior of Timor deers at day time and nocturnal phase (P <0.20) and the observations showed that the duration and frequency of aggressive behavior Timor deers such as wallowing, walking with head up, shouting, rubbing antlers, threatening, running away and climbing more frequently and for longer periods was shown during the day time (diurnal). Conclusions: Difference time between day time (diurnal) and night phases (nocturnal) causes the duration and frequency aggressive behavior of Timor deers, was longer and more frequent during the day time.
