Abstract

The research study of cadmium (II) metal ion adsorption in a solution by 2-mercaptobenzotiazole modified cellulose and unmodified cellulose had been done. The aims of this research are to know the ability of 2-mercaptobenzotiazole modified and unmodified celluloses for adsorbing cadmium (II) metal ion with the composition of modification. The modification processes of cellulose were done by the composition variation between cellulose and MBT of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3. The adsorption process of metal ions by 2-mercaptobenzotiazole modified cellulose were done by shaking at pH 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 with the effect of metal ions concentration of 0.05; 0.1; 0,15; 0,2, and 0,25 mg/L. The analysis of functional groups of cellulose-MBT and cellulose unmodified was using FTIR Spectrophotometer. The analysis of cadmium (II) concentration metal ions as cadmium metals were done by atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The result of this research showed that on the functional groups which derived from FTIR spectrum, there was some similarity of functional groups between unmodified cellulose and MBT-cellulose which could be seen from the wave length of C-S stretching at 663.51 cm-1; functional group of C-H aromatic stretching at 3749.62 cm-1; functional group of C-N at 1319.31 cm-1, and functional group of C=N that came from diazole  functional group (-N=C-S) which could be seen at 1597.06 cm-1. The optimum adsorption metal ions cadmium by MBT-cellulose happened at 1:2 composition modification, pH 4, and at the concentration of 0.2 mg/L.   Key words: adsorption, modified, cadmium (II) metal ion, cellulose, 2-merkaptobenzotiazole

Abstract

Declining air quality and increasing number of vehicles at Samarinda City indicating that there is strong relationship between both. Research was done to understand current air pollution level in Samarida as ISPU Criteria and relationship air pollutant level with number of vehicles activities. Research was done by counting number of vehicles and collecting air samples at five crowded traffic intersection. Air samples tested in laboratory for ISPU specified air pollutant level, which are CO, NO2, SO2, O3 and dust (PM 10). Analysis of correlation was conducted to understand relationship between numbers of vehiclesand air pollutant level. Average level of air pollutant and their ISPU value were CO 2803ug/m3 (28.03; Good), NO2 47.9ug/m3 (-; Good), SO2 53.0ug/m3 (33.12; Good), O3 31.3ug/m3 (13.04; Good) and Dust 36.1ug/m3 (36.1; Good). There was positive correlation between numbers of vehicles and air pollutant level with coefficient >0.9. Therefore, limit numbers of vehicles before limit air pollutant level passed could be predicted. Prediction of limit numbers of vehicles based on CO level were 31217 units, NO2 level were 54186 units, SO2 level were127692 units, O3 level were 48672 units and dust level were 26371 units. Levels of CO, NO2, SO2, O3 and dust (PM 10) at Samarinda City still comply PP No. 41 year 1999 with Good as ISPU criteria average. Increase in number of vehicle will increase air pollutant levels too. Keywords: Air, Level, Pollutant, ISPU, Quality

Abstract

The research of adsorption cadmium (II) metal ions in the solution by activated carbon from durian peel has been done. Adsorption process is done by using a variation of pH (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6), variation of contact time (15, 30, 45, 60, 75 dan 90 menit), variation of the concentration (20, 30, 40, 50 dan 60 mg/L). Analysis of metal ion concentration of cadmium (II) used by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results of this research shows that the optimum condition was achieved at the pH value of 4 and the contact time of 60 minutes. Metal ion adsorption of cadmium (II) by activated carbon from durian’s peel at pH value of 4 and the contact time of 60 minutes can achieve 64,540%. Metal ion adsorption capacity of cadmium (II) adsorbed by activated carbon from durian’s peel can achieve 0,4951 mg/g.Keywords : Adsorption, Activated Carbon, Durian Peel, Metal Ions Cadmium (II)

Abstract

The Research to determine the levels of Pb ion on swamp cabbage (Ipomoea reptans Poir) where each of media cropping given variation of leachate volume from TPA Bukit Pinang Samarinda for every 10 kg of soil has been carried out. Swamp cabbage was analyzed in the roots, stems and leaves at the age of 2 weeks to 4 weeks. The levels of Pb2+ ion was determined by dry destruction method, then measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Pb2+ ion was accumulated on the ground kale plants. The highest levels of Pb2+ ion was contained in the roots of ground kale plants on media cropping which added 1.5 L of leachate at the age of 3 weeks of 2.0642 mg / kg wet weight. The lowest level of Pb2+ ion was contained in the leaves of control plants at the age of 2 weeks that was 0.0177 mg / kg wet weight.

Abstract

The modification of resin Ca - Alginate with rice straw ash as a column filler material for preconcentration step of Mn(II) ion. Has been done Preconcentration method was used by off-line method, water samples were passed through the column and eluted with 0.1 M H2SO4. The eluate was taken and detected by using Spectrophotometer UV-Visible. Optimum composition of modified resin Rice straw ash - Ca - Alginat were at 1% Na - Alginate, 0.1 M CaCl2, and 0.5 g rice straw ash. The result of research shown the optimum condition of retention capacity ion Mn(II) was 0.08211 mg Mn / gr resin. The best sorption at pH 2, and optimum condition of eluent concentration 0.1 M H2SO4, sample volume 12 mL and eluent volume was 5 mL. The analytical performance of this method was good for determination of ion Mn(II) that could be evaluated by limit of detection about 0.7727 mg/L with the reproducibility level shown by the precentage of the coefficient variance was 1.179 %. This method could be applicated to determine ion Mn(II) at the natural water samples from Mahakam river with a recovery percentage of > 95 %, used spike method that shown this resin is good to using at preconcentration stage determination of ion Mn(II).

The detection limit found at laboratory A was 0.6728 µg/L, laboratory B was 0.1989 µg/L and laboratory C was 0.0001 µg/L. The quantization limit obtained by laboratory A was 0.6817 µg/L, laboratory B was 0.6063 µg/L and laboratory C was 0.0001 µg/L. The precision test of laboratory A was 7.2208, laboratory B was 5.4557 and laboratory C was 0,000. The result of determining Pb of gas station soil samples in laboratory A is 0.737 µg/L and laboratory B is 0.391 µg/L, so that means they have exceeded the quality standards set by the Indonesian National Standard (INS).
