Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of the use of DR-TA strategy to develop the students’ reading comprehension of narrative texts. This research was conducted at SMP Haruniyah Pontianak. The subject of this research was 35 students of the eighth grade. In completing the research, the writer provided the observation checklist and field note to get the data from classroom activities. Besides, this research also used test (objectives test) to measure the students’ reading comprehension achievement in every cycle of treatment. To conduct this research the writer applied two cycles; cycle 1 and 2. There were only 59% of students who achieve the minimum level achievement (MLA) 70 (seventy) in cycle 1. In this case, the use of DR-TA strategy was focused on the students’ way to predict and to think what the students read before concluding the text. As a result, the students’ reading comprehension achievement of narrative text has indicated the increase from the average scores of reading comprehension in two cycles (cycle 1 and cycle 2). The students’ average scores who achieved minimum level achievement (MLA) 59% in cycle 1 and 85.7% in cycle 2. From these results, this research indicated that the use of DR-TA strategy in developing the students’ reading comprehension achievement of narrative was effective in teaching and learning process. Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of the study is to to know how well picture improves the students’ vocabulary about adjective to describe people for the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak in academic year 2013/2014. The observation check list and field notes were used to take notes about teaching learning activities which related to the used of picture to teach vocabulary.  Based on the research findings that had been conducted by the researcher, it could be seen that there were some improvement on students’ vocabulary achievement by using picture. On the first test the means score was 52.6 and the mean score of the second test was 77. These mean scores indicated that there were some improvements in the students. The processes done by the teacher in the classroom worked. Therefore the tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak in Academic Year 2013/2014 could improve their vocabulary score achievement by using picture. Action hypothesis showed that picture can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. Keywords : Teaching, Vocabulary, Picture Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa baik gambar meningkatkan kosakata siswa tentang sifat untuk menggambarkan orang untuk siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak di tahun akademik 2013/2014. Dalam penelitian tersebut. Pengamatan check list dan catatan lapangan yang digunakan untuk mengambil catatan tentang kegiatan belajar mengajar yang berkaitan dengan yang digunakan gambar untuk mengajar kosa kata. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh peneliti, dapat dilihat bahwa ada beberapa perbaikan pada prestasi kosakata siswa dengan menggunakan gambar. Pada tes pertama skor sarana adalah 52,6 dan nilai rata-rata dari tes kedua adalah 77. ini berarti skor menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa perbaikan dalam siswa. Proses dilakukan oleh guru di kelas bekerja. Oleh karena itu Siswa Kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak di Tahun Akademik 2013/2014 bisa meningkatkan nilai kosakata prestasi mereka dengan menggunakan gambar. Abstract

AbstractThe objective of this research was to find out whether there was any improvement on students’ reading comprehension of short functional text after being taught using authentic text materials. Therefore the method used in this research was classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles. Cycle 1 consisted of three meetings and cycle 2 consisted of two meetings. The subject of this research was 22 students of eight grade students of SMP Tunas Karya Pontianak in academic year 2015/2016. The researcher used observation and students’ achievement test to collect the data. The researcher elaborated the result of observation and students’ achievement test result in order to get the research findings. The results of this research showed that there was any improvement on students’ reading comprehension after being taught using authentic materials. After the actions were implemented, the students showed some improvements. They could focus on the lesson and actively participated in teaching learning process. They showed their enthusiastic in reading the text. They also could find the detail information from the text and increased their vocabulary mastery. The students’ individual score in comprehending short functional text also improved and the result was satisfying. In conclusion, the use of authentic materials improved the students’ reading comprehension of short functional texts. Keywords: Authentic mateials, reading comprehension, short functional texts

Abstract

Abstract: This research discusses two major concerns. First, to find out students’ learning style in learning to improve speaking skills, they are visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Second, to find out strategies used by students who have visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles in improving their speaking English skills. The method used in this research was Qualitative Research in the form of Case Study. The tools used in this research were questionnaire and interview. The result showed that the visual learner was 1 student (20 %), auditory learners were 3 students (60 %) and kinesthetic learner was 1 student (20%). As a result, auditory learners were more dominant than kinesthetic and visual learners. Based on the interview conducted to the participants which were 1 visual learner, 3 auditory learners, and 1 kinesthetic learner it was found that visual learner often do not remember information given orally without being able to see it. They memorize using visual clues. Auditory learners need to remember most easily if saying something repeatedly. Auditory learners were able to say something without paying close attention to the person. Kinesthetic learners learn best by moving their bodies, activating their large or small muscles as they learn. They are learners who actually concentrate better and learn more easily when body movement is involved. Abstract

Abstract : The aim of this research was to find out the appropriate reading comprehension material samples designed for teaching  narrative texts. This research was conducted to the second semester of eleventh grade students of SMAK Talino Sungai Ambawang in academic year 2014/2015. The method of this research is development research. The participants were taken from class XI IPS that consisted  of  32 students and an English teacher . The data were collected by using observation, questionnaires and interview. Based on the data analysis, the result of the observation checklist showed that most of the students were motivated and involved actively during the teaching learning process. The result of the teacher?s interview after  implementation showed that the reading comprehension material samples designed by the writer are appropriate for the students. As the conclusion, according to the teacher?s and students? feedback of the questionnaires the level of reading comprehension material samples designed by the writer had fulfilled the 3 aspects in designing the material and appropriate for the students. Keywords: Designing, Reading Comprehension, Narrative Texts Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukaan contoh rancangan materi tentang pemahman membaca yang cocok  dipakai dalam mengajar teks naratif. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa semester dua kelas XI IPS di SMAK Talino Sungai Ambawang pada tahun akademik 2014/2015. Metode yang dipakai pada penelitian ini adalah pengembangan penelitian. Peserta dari penelitian ini di ambil dari siswa kelas XI IPS yang terdiri dari 32 siswa dan juga guru pelajaran bahasa Inggris dari sekolah tersebut. Data di peroleh dengan menggunakan  pengmatan, wawancara. Berdasarkan analisis data, hasil pengamatan menunjukan bahwa siswa termotivasi dan aktif selama proses belajar mengajar. Sedangkan berdasarkan hasil wawancara terhadap guru bahasa Inggris menunjukan bahwa contoh materi pemahaman membaca yang dirancang oleh penulis cocok dipakai untuk siswa. Kesimpulannya, berdasarkan tanggapan guru dan siswa dari hasil angket yang disebarkan bahwa contoh materi yang dirancang oleh penulis telah memenuhi 3 aspek dalam merancang materi dan cocok untuk siswa. Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki seberapa efektif penggunaan teknik scaffolding dalam menulis terutama dalam menulis teks recount terhadap siswa-siswa kelas X SMA Karya Sekadau tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian pre-eksperimental dengan rancangan penelitian satu grup pre-test dan post-test. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XE yang terdiri dari 29 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan memberikan pre-test sebelum perlakuan dan post-test setelah perlakuan dalam bentuk soal menulis. Test ini dilakukan dalam test performa berbentuk test menulis. Soal pre-test dan post-test adalah sama dengan perintah yang sama. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus tingkat efektifitas. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan bahwa tingkat efektifitas dari menulis menggunakan teknik scaffolding adalah 1.2101 (ES> 0.50) dan dikategorikan tinggi. Kata Kunci: Teks Recount, Teknik Scaffolding Abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of using scaffolding technique in teaching writing especially recount text writing to Year-10 Students of SMA Karya Sekadau in Academic Year 2015/2016. It was a pre-experimental study with a single group pre-test post-test design. The sample was Year-10 students that consisted of 29 students. The data were collected by giving pre-test before the treatment and post-test after the treatment in writing test. The test was performance test in written form.. Pre-test and post-test were the same test with the same command. The data were analyzed by Effect Size (ES) formula. The finding showed that the effect size of teaching recount text writing by using scaffolding technique was 1.210 (ES > 0.5) and categorized high. Key Words: Recount Text, Scaffolding Technique

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed at improving students? reading comprehension of narrative text. This research was conducted to second year students of SMK Al-Madani Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. This class consists of 30 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research. The data was collected by using observation and measurement technique. The observation checklist and field notes were used as the tools of data collecting. Students? Team Achievement Division (STAD) was used as technique in this research. The researcher applied three cycles. The research findings showed that the mean score of students? reading comprehension in the first cycle was 55.36; the second cycle was 58.33 but in the third cycle was 62.03. From the research applied to the subject of the research, it can be stated that the Students? Team Achievement Division (STAD) could ensure the students in understanding and comprehending the text they read. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata dari pemahaman membaca siswa pada siklus I adalah 55,36; siklus kedua adalah 58,33 tapi pada siklus ketiga adalah 62,03. Dari penelitian yang diterapkan pada subjek penelitian, dapat dinyatakan bahwa Students? Team Achievement Division (STAD) bisa menjamin siswa dalam memahami dan memahami teks yang mereka baca. Abstract

Abstract: The point of this research is to know English speaking ability of the young learners through role play. This research was conducted as a case study research to get the answer from the young learners. The answer is about young learner?s speaking ability through role play. The subjects of this research were six young learners from K-3 Joyful Kindergarten. The result shows young learners? achieved mastery level in English speaking ability through role play and some young learners? errors affecting their English speaking ability. Young learners acquired better result in first observation rather in second observation.  In first observation, young learners have less error in content aspect and fluency aspect. About the other aspects such as pronunciation aspect and body language aspect, they responded with less error in first observation and second observation. It also substantiate that role play technique helped young learners to improve their speaking skill. It indicated that role play technique be able to aid young learner?s speaking ability in fun teaching learning on K3 Darwin class in Joyful Kindergarten in academic year 2014/2015. Key words: English speaking ability, young learners, role play, case study   Abstrak: Penelitian ini focus pada kemampuan pengucapan berbahasa Inggris pada anak ?anak di Taman kanak ?kanak melalui bermain peran. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian studi kasus untuk mendapatkan data dari anak- anak di taman kanak-kanak.  Hasil data tersebut adalah mengenai kemampuan pengucapan berbahasa Inggris melalui bermain peran. Peserta penelitian adalah enam anak-anak dari K-3 Joyful Kindergarten. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah anak-anak dapat mencapai tingkat berkembang dengan baik dalam kemampuan pengucapan berbahasa Inggris melalui bermain peran dan beberapa anak ?anak melakukan kesalahan dalam pengucapan berbahasa Inggris sehingga berpengaruh ke kemampuan berbahasa Ingggris mereka. Anak ? anak mencapai hasil lebih baik di observasi pertama dibandingkan dengan hasil di observasi ke dua. Di dalam observasi pertama, anak-anak mencapai hasil yang tidak terdapat banyak kesalahan di dalam aspek kelancaran dan aspek konteks berbahasa inggris. Mereka juga merespon dengan kesalahan yang lebih sedikit di observasi pertama dan kedua ,Dalam aspek lain seperti aspek pengucapan dan aspek bahasa tubuh. Dapat diterima bahwa teknik bermain peran  dapat membantu untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris mereka. Hasil data yang didapat menunjukkan bahwa teknik bermain peran dapat berguna untuk membantu anak-anak belajar kemampuan berbahasa Inggris di kelas K3  Darwin di Joyful Kindergarten tahun akademik 2014/2015. Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to know whether or not the use of REAP strategy is effective in teaching students reading comprehension on descriptive text. The researcher conducted this research in English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. This research was conducted as a pre-experimental research with the one group pre-test post-test. The sample of this research was 35 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test by using multiple choices test consisting of twenty items. The finding shows that there are significant difference of the students? achievement that can be proved by t-test is higher than t-table. Moreover, the effect of treatment is categorized as modest effect. It indicates that the use of REAP strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension especially in teaching descriptive text. Therefore, REAP strategy is a good strategy used to develop students? better understanding in reading and thinking through the use of writing.   Keywords: REAP strategy, Reading Comprehension. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan penggunaan strategi REAP efektif atau tidak dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif. Peneliti melaksanakan penelitian ini pada Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, FKIP UNTAN, Pontianak, tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode pre-experimental dengan satu grup pre-test post-test. Sampel pada penelitian ini berjumlah 35 orang. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test dengan menggunakan test pilihan ganda terdiri dari 10 soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari pencapaian siswa yang dapat dibuktikan dengan nilai t-test lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai t-table. Selanjutnya, pengaruh dari perlakuan dikategorikan cukup berpengaruh. Hal ini menandakan bahwa penggunaan strategi REAP efektif dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca siswa khususnya dalam mengajarkan teks deskriptif teks. Oleh karena itu, strategi REAP adalah sebuah strategi yang baik digunakan untuk mengembangkan pemahaman siswa yang baik dalam membaca dan berfikir melalui penggunaan menulis.   Kata kunci: Strategi REAP, Pemahaman Membaca.

Abstract

Abstract: This research focused on the use of pre-questioning in improving students? reading achievement in narrative text. The objective of the research is to find out whether Pre-questioning technique can improve student achievement in reading narrative text of eleventh grade students of SMA 2 Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya in academic years 2014/2015. The researcher conducted a pre-experimental study with measurement as the technique of collecting data and written test as tool of collecting data. The sample of this study was 32 students. The research finding show that the mean score of pre-test is 42.03; which is categorized as ?Poor?. Furthermore, the mean score of post-test was 67.81; which is categorized as ?Average to Good?. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the effect size of this research is 1.99; which is categorized as ?High Effect?. It can be concluded that the use of pre-questioning technique in teaching reading narrative comprehension can improve the students? reading achievement in narrative text significantly. Keyword: Pre-questioning, Reading Comprehension, Narrative text. Abstrak: Penelitian ini fokus pada penggunaan teknik pre-questioning dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa dalam membaca teks narratif. Tujuan melakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah pre-questioning teknik dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa dalam teks narrative pada siswa kelas sebelas SMA negeri 2 sungai kakap, Kubu Raya pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian dilakukan dalam bentuk penelitian pre-experimental menggunakan tehnik pengukuran sebagai tehnik pengolahan data serta tes tertulis sebagai cara mengumpulkan data. Penelitian ini melibatkan sampel sebanyak 32 siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini mendapatkan nilai rata rata pre-test nya adalah 42.03; termasuk kategori ?rendah?. Kemudian, nilai rata-rata dari post-test adalah 67.81; termasuk kategori ?rata-rata ke baik?. Berdasarkan analisis data, ditemukan bahwa ukuran efektifitas dari penelitian ini adalah 1.99 termasuk katagori ?efek tinggi?. ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik pre-questioning dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca teks narratif dapat meningkatkan nilai siswa dalam membaca teks narratif secara signifikan.
