Abstract

This study examines the ability of phonological production or the ability to produce language sounds, namely vowels and consonants in Indonesian with Down syndrome, a student of the Banyuwangi An-Moerty Extraordinary Primary School. Phonological sensitivity has an important role in communicating creativity, including for persons with disabilities. The purpose of this study is to describe phonological production capabilities, and to find out the causes of the inability to pronounce language sounds of persons with Down syndrome, Bagus Chandra. This research is a qualitative research. This research data in the form of words spoken by Bagus Candra collected by the method of observation or observation with note-taking techniques and data in the form of information from the people closest to home and school were collected by interview method with note-taking techniques. Language data that have been classified are analyzed by distributional methods or agih methods with basic BUL techniques and advanced techniques: skipping, replacing, inserting, and changing the meanings, while data in the form of information are analyzed by descriptive analytical methods. The results of this study indicate that Bagus Chandra's phonological production ability in producing vowel sounds and consonant sounds is mostly perfect, because all vowel sounds [a], [i], [u], [e], and [o], and consonant sounds which includes sounds [b], [c], [d], [g], [h], [j], [k], [l], [m], [n], [p], [q] , [s], [t], and [y] can be pronounced correctly without obstacles. In this case, only a small part of the consonant sound, namely: sounds [r], [f], [v], [w], [x], and, [z] cannot be pronounced perfectly. Physically, the inability is caused by abnormal growth of the tongue, which is the size of the tongue that is longer and wider, and often extended.

Abstract

The study aims to describe the forms of basic vocabulary sound pronunciation and the factors that influence the side of mild mental retardation children are not able to pronounce the sounds of the language. Data in the form of pronunciation of speech sounds on the basic vocabulary of Indonesian language sourced from Sisi with mild mental retardation children were collected by observation method with fishing, recording, and recording techniques. The data in the form of information about the factors behind them are from parents and the teacher is collected by using in-depth interviewing with recording and recording techniques. The data that has been classified is analyzed by phonetic articulatory matching method and qualitative descriptive method. The results show that the pronunciation of Sisi in pronouncing vowels and diphthongs can be said to be influenced by the Javanese language, because Sisi's parents are Javanese. On the pronunciation of the consonant sound, Sisi experiences an inability to recite. The inability of the Side to pronounce consonant sounds is influenced by health factors. The sides experience language brain damage which results in a communication process disturbance, coupled with the Sisi speech tool condition which is a slightly larger and thicker tongue which has an impact on the production of the language sounds produced and results in phonetic disturbances.

Abstract

The use of the Osing language in this area is still quite strong, and the pronunciation could be more precise. Even so, the people of this village still apply politeness in language when interacting with each other. This study aimed to find out the forms and language politeness strategies used by the Osing community in Macan Putih Village. This research method uses a qualitative research method with three stages: the stage of providing data, the stage of data analysis, and the stage of providing the results of data analysis. The research data is in utterances by speech participants associated with a context. The study results show that most of the Osing people in Macan Putih Village are polite in speaking, although some still violate it. The form of politeness in the language of the Osing community is based on markers of politeness verbally through speech and nonverbally through accompanying body gestures, as well as the politeness scale. There are two strategies namely positive politeness strategies such as (1) paying attention, (2) exaggerating in giving comments or praise, (3) using markers as members of the same group, (4) using jokes, and (5) giving questions or asking for reasons. The second strategy is the negative politeness strategy, namely (1) using indirect speech, (2) being pessimistic, and (3) minimizing coercion/pressure.
