The Role of Vocational High School (SMK) in preparing high school-skilled labors,is showing a less encouraging trend when viewed in terms of the number of competentgraduates. It is caused by several factors, low quality of human resources, infrastructure, curricula and learning method, education management and management operational support that is not optimal because it comes from city and state budgets. The purpose of this study is to find a dual system education development model in creating an autonomous school. This study was conducted at SMK in the city of Semarang which is projected to be national and international standard by taking sample of 8 SMK. Respondents in this study were 59 SMK teachers and 86 SMK students. Data collection technique is using enclosed questionnaire which include open questions. Analysis technique is using descriptive analysis. The study results shows that dual system education materials taught is not complete and not as desired. Many SMK yet have a clear roadmap about the development of dual system education in SMK. Low of networking with the industry causes the dual system education learning is not effective. This study propose an integrated model, so that SMK is able to produce graduates with high motivation and entrepreneurial skills.

Abstract

As a practice, the Polytechnic machining workshop should also be a safe workplace for students. The lack of the manager’s attention in setting the safe way of working and the use of personal protective equipment for the students’ work show the substandard implementation of the occupational health and safety. This study aims to find out a factual management model, analyze the shortcomings, and design a hypothetical model for the Polytechnic machining workshop management characterized by health and safety. Students, lecturers, laboratory assistants, and technicians are directly related to the activities of the Polytechnic machining workshop as data sources. This study implemented research and development methodology, with data collection techniques that include observational studies, interviews, and questionnaires. Using indicators for safe machining workshop management, the result of each indicator shows merely 20% of the expectation. It was concluded that the factual management model to provide a safe workplace for students is still bad. The disadvantage of this management model is the lack of in-depth preparation for implementing occupational health and safety regulations. Therefore, the model still requires a development to become a model of machining workshop management with health and safety character. The success of the implementation of this management model requires leadership support and active participation of all those involved in the students’ practice activities in the Polytechnic machining workshop.

Abstract

In the context of identity, batik is a form of expression of art with unique features that become the identity or may potentially become a cultural identity for either local or national identity. As the capital of Central Java, Semarang has built an identity through batik that depicts Semarang as having a batik culture. The construction of identity in Semarang batik began from searching for local identities by related actors, either personal or communities or organizations, who collectively explore ideas from locality. Locality includes natural, physical, and social-cultural environments. Through creativity in batik art, those ideas are conveyed in innovation and production of distinctive batik that is Semarang-style batik. This distinction represents Semarang locality that forms Semarang identity. The identity that is created as a product of that culture is continuously developed and preserved through enculturation by education in families, schools, and the society.

This research employed a research and development (R & D) method. The ten (10) steps contained in the method were modified into three, namely the preliminary stage, the development stage, and the evaluation stage. The data source was civil servants who were attending the education and training program in the Human Resource Development Board of Central Java Province. Data were drawn from the respondents through interviews, open and closed questionnaires, observations, as well as pre and post test. The data were validated using validity and reliability tests. The effectiveness of the model was assessed using pre and post tests. The result of this research shows that the civil servant entrepreneurship education and training management model based on achievement motivation training is feasible to be applied in Regional Human Resources Development Board of Central Java Province. The effectiveness of the model is proven by the pre and post test results showing that it improves the need for achievement/n-Ach) from 5.27 to 8.10, the need for affiliation/n-Aff from 1.80 to 2.00, and the need for power/n-Pow motive from 4.63 to 5.27; there is an increase of  each from medium to high category.

Abstract

Aesthetic education is an aspect of art education in schools whose implementation is very diverse. The diversity in the implementation is thought to be due to differences in the teacher’s ideology on aesthetic education. The teacher's perception of aesthetic education must be influenced by the ideology he/she embraces. Therefore, field research is needed to provide an explanation of the teacher’s ideology and the implementation of aesthetic education at school. Problems to be solved through this research were (1) how is the ideology and understanding of teacher’s art about aesthetic education and (2) how is the implementation of aesthetic education at school. This research utilized a qualitative approach with cultural ecology model. Data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The target of this research was art and culture teachers of Junior High School in Semarang. The results showed that in carrying out the learning of art and culture all teachers refer to the school-based (KTSP) curriculum and the 2013 Curriculum. Almost all art and cultural teachers carry out the learning process in accordance with the guidelines of the curriculum although they still adjust to school conditions. According to the art and culture teachers, in fact, the substance of the two curricula is not very much different; both are based on students and learning strategies using a scientific approach. In addition to providing an aesthetic experience to students, art education is also very appropriate as a means of character education for the nation.

Abstract

This study is based on the performance of education supervisors, the performance of madrasah principals, the performance of professional teachers, and the performance of madrasah committees, which synergize into the model of effective madrasah tsanawiyah in Purbalingga District. The problems raised in this study are (1) whether the relationships among the variables affecting the effectiveness of madrasah can be empirically tested and (2) how the contribution of education supervisors, heads of madrash, professional teachers, and madrasah committees to the quality of madrasah processes and effectiveness. This research was designed as a correlational study using path analysis. The population of this study was all professional teachers in 31 of 39 public and private MTs accredited "A" and "B" in Purbalingga District. The total number of population was 334 people with the error rate of 10%. The sample size was 150 people. The data were analyzed based on the structural equation model (SEM) using AMOS. Based on the data analysis, it was found that: First, there is a correlation between the conceptual model and the empirically tested model. Second, the performance of education supervisor, head of madrasah, professional teacher, and madrasah committee have an effect on the quality process. The contribution of the exogenous variable influence was 89.9%, the rest 10.1% was influenced by other factors beyond the model. Third, the contribution of quality process variable, education supervisor, head of madrasah, professional teacher, and madrasah committee on effective madrasah was 93.4%, the rest 6.6% was influenced by other factors. Fourth, the model can be used to predict effective madrasahs with the effort of managing the tested exogenous variables. It can be recommended that the effective madrasah tsanawiyah model can be used to predict the effectiveness of madrasah by prioritizing on quality process variables, professional teacher performance, madrasah head performance, and madrasah committees performance, with various sciences and insights.
