Abstract

This research attempts to answer the question of why Indonesia supported democratization in Myanmar. In this research, researchers use the constructivism perspective to analyze Indonesia's foreign policy by exploring Indonesia's reasons for promoting democratization in Myanmar. This motivation becomes an interesting thing when Indonesia's reason is more of nonmaterial than material. This research uses qualitative methods by collecting data through interviews with a number of informants and documentation studies. Based on the results of data analysis, this research has found that Indonesia's foreign policy toward Myanmar in supporting democratization is based on consideration of domestic, regional and global ideas, values or norms. These norms and ideas are constructed so as to encourage the formation of an Indonesian identity which is the basis for the production and reproduction of Indonesia's interests in Myanmar in promoting democratization. Indonesia's desire to re-hold regional leadership, the restoration of its image as a democratic country, and a commitment to maintain world peace are part of the production and reproduction of discourses on Indonesia's interests which contribute to the formation of Indonesia's foreign policy towards Myanmar.

Abstract

AbstractThis paper aims to analyze EU foreign aid for development and the environment. To achieve this goal, the author describes the EU-Indonesia diplomatic relations in development and the environment and the implications of foreign aid for Indonesia’s environmental policy. This paper uses qualitative research methods by exploring indirect data sources derived from documentation studies and searching data through the internet. The theory used in this paper is Dependency Development Theory and Environmental Security. This paper finds that foreign aid from the European Union poses a dilemma for Indonesia, where on the one hand foreign assistance is needed for environmental development and maintenance, as well as poverty alleviation and socio-political inequality at the current global level. On the other hand, the strengthening of foreign aid in developing countries, especially in Indonesia, has led to Indonesia’s dependence on the European Union. Several foreign aids have been prioritized for the maintenance of Indonesia’s biological resources, which are one of the lungs of the world. This certainly has a positive impact in the midst of other types of impacts that are increasingly massive developments in developed countries which have negative effects on the environment. Keywords: Foreign Aid, Indonesia, Environmental Security, Development, European Union.

Abstract

Covid 19 has an impact on the world economic crisis which has brought the world to the brink of the worst economic recession in the last 50 years of world economic history. This causes the state to require debt to other countries, including Indonesia. Indonesia's state debt during the pandemic continued to grow so that it was accused of "Hidden Debt" to the Chinese state from both government and non-government. Foreign debt is not a secret matter, but the state must owe it to survive. The theory used in this paper is Structuralism Theory and Rational Choice. This paper finds that hidden traps in the short term are a source of stimulus for the recovery of the economic and infrastructure sectors in Indonesia after Covid-19, but in the long term it has the potential to cause problems for Indonesia's dependence on China and a threat to economic independence. Therefore, Indonesia needs to compile a roadmap regarding economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic by utilizing potential foreign sources to be developed and in the nature of cooperation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of the Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) as an instrument of the paradiplomacy of Seoul, South Korea, in promoting the city’s tourism to the global public on economic and cultural aspects. Seoul's paradiplomacy in promoting tourism is motivated by efforts to attract global public attention and to encourage foreign tourists to make Seoul a tourist destination. For that purpose, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has collaborated with various K-pop artists, such as BTS, in its paradiplomacy practice. This study uses transgovernmentalism, foreign relations, paradiplomacy, and art as theories and qualitative research as a method by taking data directly and indirectly. Direct data are obtained from interviews with several informants, while indirect data are obtained from studies of relevant documentation and literature. This study finds that BTS becomes an instrument of Seoul's paradiplomacy in tourism promotion. The researchers also discovered that the Seoul Metropolitan Government has restructured the Seoul Tourism Organization from a public-private partnership and government-invested institution to one that can increase the city's competitiveness in tourism and Meetings, Incentive Tours, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE), as well as contribute to Seoul's economic development by revitalizing tourism-related industries.
