Abstract

Aim: The present research to formulate ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaf as a stable hand wash with required characteristics and evaluate it is effectivity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Method: Moringa oleifera was extracted using 96% of ethanol. The obtained extract was formulated into hand wash in concentration 2.5; 5; and 7.5% w/v using surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate and cocamide DEA. Obtained hand wash then evaluated the physical characteristics including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, relative mass, and foaming level. Hand wash effectivity evaluated against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using diffusion method. Result: Hand wash of Moringa oleifera leaf extract fulfill the physical characteristics requirement and showing strong activity against E. coli. and S. aureus with average inhibition zone 13.1 mm; 13.8 mm; 14.5 mm; 12.9 mm; 15.16 mm; and 15.46 mm respectively for 2.5; 5; and 7.5% each. Conclusion: Overall, the experimental results revealed strong inhibition activity of M. oleifera hand wash to E. coli and S. aureus, but increasing the concentration of the extract has no significant different to inhibition activity.

Abstract

Black rice (Oryza sativa L.) contains chemical compounds, namely ferulic acid, -oryzanol, amino acids, tannins, phenolics, and anthocyanins which have potential as antibacterial agents. This study aims to formulate an antibacterial gel preparation from black rice extract with an extract concentration of 10% and to test the antibacterial effectiveness of the gel preparation against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. Black rice extract was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol solvent: 3% citric acid. The extract obtained was then formulated in a gel dosage form. The results showed that black rice extract could be formulated as an antibacterial gel preparation that met the organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and adhesion requirements. In the results of the antibacterial effectiveness test, there is a clear zone which represents the ability to inhibit the growth of the tested bacteria by the gel. Black rice extract can be formulated in a gel dosage form with an extract concentration of 10% and a physically stable formula is obtained in formula III with a carbopol concentration of 2%. The average diameter of the antibacterial gel FIII preparation of black rice extract in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus bacteria was classified as strong, namely 11.17 ± 0.34 mm, while inhibition of Escherichia coli bacteria was also relatively strong, namely 12.20 ± 0.46 mm

Abstract

Effectiveness of Moringa Leaf Extract (Moringa oleifera L.) for Peptic Ulcuses In Aspirine-Induced White Rats (Rattus norvegicus)Moringa (Moringa oleifera L). is a plant that is known for its multipurpose, nutrient-dense, and medicinal properties. Moringa leaves contain flavonoid compounds, namely β-sitosterol which can reduce ulcers in the stomach. This research used 15 male white rats divided into 5 groups, namely the normal group, CMC Na (Negative), ranitidine (Positive), and treatment with extract doses of 100 and 300 mg/kg BW. Test animals were induced by aspirin at a dose of 500 mg/kg for 7 days, then given treatment for 7 days, except for the normal group. On the 15th day, all groups were sacrificed, then the gastric organs were visually observed, and the ulcer index was measured. the observations it was found that the administration of the extract at a dose of 300 mg/kgBB decreased the number of ulcers compared to the positive control group (p>0.05). The extract dose of 300 mg/kg BW reduces the number of aspirin-induced ulcer diameters. The results of statistics with Kruskall-Wallis, there was a significant difference after treatment (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between groups (p>0.05). Ethanol extract of Moringa leaves at a dose of 300 mg/kgBB can be gastroprotective in aspirin-induced male white rats.Keyword: Moringa leaves, gastroprotective, gastric ulcer, aspirinKelor (Moringa oleifera L).merupakan tanaman yang dikenal multi guna, padat akan nutrisi dan bermanfaat sebagai obat. Daun kelor mengandung senyawa flavonoid, yakni β-sitosterol yang dapat mengurangi tukak pada lambung. Penelitian ini menggunakan tikus putih jantan sebanyak 15 ekor yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok yaitu kelompok normal, Na CMC (Negatif), ranitidine (Positif), dan perlakuan dengan dosis  ekstrak 100 dan 300 mg/kgBB. Hewan uji di induksi aspirin dosis 500 mg/kgBB selama 7 hari, kemudian diberi pengobatan selama 7 hari, kecuali kelompok normal. Pada hari ke-15 semua kelompok dikorbankan kemudian diamati organ lambung secara visual diukur indeks tukak. Dari hasil pengamatan diketahui bahwa pemberian ekstrak dosis 300 mg/kgBB terjadi penurunan jumlah tukak dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol positif  (p>0,05). Dosis ekstrak 300 mg/kgBB memberikan efek penurunan jumlah diameter tukak akibat induksi aspirin. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan dengan Kruskall-Wallis menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan setelah perlakuan (p<0,05), namun tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antar kelompok (p>0,05). Ekstrak etanol daun kelor dengan dosis 300 mg/kgBB memiliki kemampuan sebagai gastroprotektif pada tikus putih  jantan yang diinduksi aspirin.Keyword : Daun kelor, gastroprotektif, tukak lambung, aspirin

Abstract

Umbi paku atai merah (Angiopteris ferox Copel) merupakan tumbuhan paku yang berasal dari suku Dayak yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional yang berpotensi sebagai antioksidan karena memiliki kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder meliputii alkaloid, steroid, flavanoid, tanin serta saponin. Penggunaan umbi paku atai merah di masyarakat masih menggunakan cara tradisional yaitu diseduh dengan air panas, diminum air rebusannya dan meninggalkan rasa yang tidak enak, sehingga tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk memformulasi sediaan kapsul ekstrak etanol umbi paku atai merah yang memenuhi karakteristik fisik. Penelitian ini dilakukan pembuatan sediaan kapsul yang berisi granul dengan variasi konsentrasi aerosil FI 5%, FII 7% dan FIII 9%. Granul dibuat dengan metode granulasi basah, lalu dilakukan evaluasi karakteristik fisik granul dan kapsul. Hasil yang diperoleh dari ketiga granul tersebut memenuhi karakteristik fisik granul dengan parameter uji organoleptik, kandungan lembab, susut pengeringan, kecepatan alir, sudut istirahat, Bj sejati, Bj nyata, Bj mampat dan porositas. Sedangkan untuk kapsul FI dan FII merupakan sediaan yang memenuhi karakteristik fisik kapsul dengan parameter uji keseragaman bobot, waktu hancur dan higroskopis.
