Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the effectiveness of formulate share listen create (FSLC) model with reciprocal teaching approach assisted by Edmodo towards the achievement of students' mathematical literacy ability and describe the profile of students' mathematical literacy ability based on their engagement groups. This research was a mix-methods sequential explanatory design study. The population was 7th grade students of SMP N 4 Semarang in the academic year 2017/2018. The research subjects were determined based on the group of student engagement consisting of upper, middle and lower groups. Data were obtained from engagement questionnaire, mathematical literacy ability test and interview. The results showed that FSLC model with reciprocal teaching approach assisted by Edmodo was effective towards the achievement of students' mathematical literacy ability. In general, the profile of students' mathematical literacy can be stated as follows. The upper group students mastered communication, mathematisation, representation, reasoning and argument, and devising strategy well. Students with middle engagement group could master communication, mathematisation, representation, devising strategy well. While the lower engagement group, students mastered the representation quite well, but they mastered devising strategy and using symbols / languages / operations component in different way. By paying attention to student engagement, teachers can design the right learning strategy according to students circumstances.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical literacy based on the mathematical self-esteem of class X students. This type of research is a mixed method. The design of this study is sequential explanatory. The population in this study was class X SMA Negeri 1 Slawi consisting of ten classes. The sampling technique using purposive sampling and selected class X.10 as an experimental class. Determination of the subject grouped by self-esteem with high, medium, and low categories to be interviewed about students' mathematical literacy abilities. The results showed that learning the description of mathematical literacy ability in terms of students' self-esteem varied. This is shown from 4 students with high self-esteem obtained by mathematics literacy results in the form of 2 students in the high category and 1 student in the medium category. From 27 students with moderate self-esteem, mathematics literacy results were obtained in the form of 7 students in the high category, 14 students in the moderate category, and 6 students in the low category. From 4 students with low self-esteem mathematical literacy results in the form of 1 student in the high category and 3 students in the low category.

This research aims to describe mathematics problem solving skill seen from adversity quotient based on gender of VIII graders. This mixed – method used sequential explanatory design. The population was taken from VIII graders of 11 Semarang, consisting of seven classes. The techniques of collecting data was purposive sampling. The findings showed that adversity quotient of the students were varied. They were shown from 10 high adversity quotient students consisting of 6 high mathematics problem solving skilled students and 4 moderate skilled students. From 17 students with moderate adversity quotient, 6 of them had high mathematics problem solving skills, 9 moderate skilled students, and 2 poor skilled students. From 5 students with poor adversity quotient, one of them had high mathematics problem solving skill, 2 moderate skill, and 2 poor skill students. Female students had higher mathematics problem solving skill than the male students. Female students also could re-check again their answers with different ways while male students could re-check with the same ways on high problem solving skill category.
