This research aims to analyze the village leader's roles as a safety valve in handling conflict of shelter aids for earthquake victims. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach that involved fifteen informants as the primary data source. They were the village's apparatus and earthquake victims. The results showed that the village leader as a safety valve, he formed a community group as a new safety valve and offered his people new hope beyond the demands. Thus, this study suggests that the safety valve model may be used to pause the conflict escalates into violent behavior, but not to settle the root causes of conflict. Nevertheless, it may create harmony if the solutions proposed are beyond the promise of voice. For the next researchers, the study suggests examining the effectiveness of hope or promise in conflict resolution for disaster aids management

Abstract

The novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has caused a global pandemic, resulting in widespread social distancing measures for all ages, including toddlers. Such policies have significantly impacted toddlers' language acquisition, particularly in terms of their lack of interaction with peers and teachers at Early Childhood Education (PAUD) schools. In light of this, the current study sought to discover how toddlers aged 4-5 fared regarding language acquisition during their early childhood. To accomplish the goal mentioned earlier, the authors of this study attempted to provide maps with animal and fruit images in both Indonesian and English. Toddlers have had fewer opportunities to interact with their peers at school due to the current circumstances, which include the spread of the new coronavirus and strict social restrictions, resulting in a decrease in vocabulary acquisition through minimal interaction. As a result, this study was carried out to evaluate the language acquisition process of early childhood students. The current study used a descriptive research design with an early childhood student sample. This study's data collection methods included observation and interviews. The results of this study revealed that, while the toddlers could name the pictures given to them when they were younger, their English language skills remained very low.

Abstract

Democracy relies on public discourse to shape public opinion and influence political choices. However, political interference in reporting, as seen in media such as Media Indonesia and CNN Indonesia, has distorted public discourse and has become a serious problem. This study aimed to explore how reporting during the Indonesian presidential election is influenced by the close relationship between political parties and media authorities. This study also aims to find patterns of bias and polarization. Three methodologies were used in this research to address the problem: content analysis, comparative analysis, and intertextuality analysis. The results of this study revealed: Based on the analysis of the content of Media Indonesia's coverage, there is a clear bias towards one of the presidential candidates, which indicates political interference in the reporting. Comparative analysis reveals significant variations in news reporting approaches between Media Indonesia and CNN Indonesia, underscoring the possible impact of political players on media organizations. The use of extra textual evidence by authors to build credibility and support the stories presented is shown through an analysis of intertextuality. This study also highlights the negative effects of political interference in news coverage and its effect on public debate. The quest for universal truth is hampered by politicized and biased portrayals of topics in the media, which limit public understanding of complex issues. This study highlights the need for a free and independent press to fight these distortions, especially in fighting the domination of powerful interests.

Abstract

"Kuah Pliek" is the famous Acehnese cuisine that utilizes most ecological materials. However, only a few researchers have discussed the sustainability of the lexicon contained within the cuisine from an eco-linguistics perspective. This study focuses on Aceh's traditional cuisine, "Kuah Pliek U" (KPU), to assess the raw materials' eco-lexicon diversity and the Acehnese's knowledge of the identified eco-lexicon. This study employed a qualitative research design to address the problems in which data collection included in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), passive and active observation, and the examination of documents such as research reports and journal articles. The analysis of data then used a qualitative interactive model. The result demonstrates that the number of the eco-lexicon within KPU is about 35 – 40, as same as its total of raw materials and ingredients. It consists of biotic and abiotic, with plants comprising the majority. Linguistically, the lexicon belongs to the noun class, but semantically, it can be divided into nouns, prepositional eco-lexicons, and nouns and conjunction. This study also reveals that Acehnese knowledge of KPU has decreased, despite its continued popularity in Aceh society. It means that the existence of three dimensions that influence language sustainability cannot guarantee that local people's cultural knowledge will remain intact.

Abstract

Advertisement plays an important role in the progression and development of a public company or an individual agency. The performance of an advertisement cannot be separated from the elements inside. The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between image (visual elements) and text (linguistic elements) in a context. This research analyzed the multimodal aspect of Lazada's online advertisement. The data was obtained from the internet by accessing the legal website of Lazada and selecting one image as the sample. The method used in the research was a qualitative method that focused on descriptive and interpretative analysis. Generic Structure Potential (GSP) proposed by Cheong (2004) was applied to reveal visual and linguistic elements. Meanwhile, Halliday’s transitivity was applied to analyze types of processes in order to show how those elements represented the message conveyed. The research results showed that the visual elements on Lazada online advertisement were Lead, Emblem, and Display. Meanwhile, the linguistic elements were Announcement, Emblem, Call-and-visit-information, Enhancer, and Tag. Moreover, both elements were interconnected, in which attractive visual and linguistic elements directly affect the quality of the advertisement performed.
