Abstract

Aquaculture sometimes only depends on water absorption without water exchange therefore the accumulation of organic material give impact on water quality in aquaculture and cause illness and death of fish. Fungi have many variations in water that can be selected by isolation and identification to maintain water quality swamp cultured. This research aims to get swamp fungi isolates as candidate bioremediator of swamp water contaminated with organic matter. Research was conducted from December 2016 to April 2017 in Laboratory of Microbiology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Sriwijaya University and Basic Laboratory of Fisheries, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. The methods of research started from isolation and selection of fungi, analysis of isolates capability to improve the quality of black water, and observations of swamp water quality.This research method started from isolation and selection lipolytic, cellulolytic, proteolytic fungi, the test isolates ability to improve swamp water quality and observation of water swamp quality. Monitoring  of  water  quality done  at  the sampling time, beginning and end of the research, including pH, temperature, ammonia and TDS. The results showed that the best fungi growth rate in contaminated swamp water of organic matter was 93%.day-1. Fungi isolates are able to play a role in the ammonification of bioremediation process.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Feed management was a key factor influencing fish growth. One of the method that could be applied was the fish growth. The study aimed to determine the best of feeding frequency in rearing of gouramy fry. This research was conducted in February-March 2018 at Experimental Ponds Laboratorium of Aquculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used a Randomized Completed Design (RCD) which consisted of four treatments and three replications, i.e provision of feed 2 times a day (P1), 3 times a day (P2), 4 times a day (P3), and 5 times a day (P4). The results showed that P3 (4 times a day) give the best values with the absolute weight, absolute length, feed efficiency and survival rate were 1.25 g, 1.63 cm, 90.86% and 98.89% respectively. The water quality parameters measured were temperature (26-29 oC), pH (6,5-6,7), dissolved oxygen (4,1-4,9 mg.L-1), and ammonia (0,03-0,011 mg.L-1).Keywords : Feed, Feeding frequency, Gourami fry, Growth

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe aims of this research were to study the influence of mixed industrial soy sauce liquid waste and Zarrouk medium mixture on population density and specific growth rate of Spirulina platensis on a short periode. This study has been conducted from March to April 2017 in the Laboratory of Aquaculture, Aquaculture study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This research was arranged according to completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatment levels and 3 replications. The treatment levels consisted of P1 (0 % industrial soy sauce liquid waste + 100 % Zarrouk medium), P2 (25 % industrial soy sauce liquid waste + 75 % Zarrouk medium), P3 (50 % industrial soy sauce liquid waste + 50 % Zarrouk medium), P4 (75 % industrial soy sauce liquid waste + 25 % Zarrouk medium), P5 (100 % industrial soy sauce liquid waste + 0 % Zarrouk medium). The parameters observed during the study were population density and the maximum specific growth rate. The result of this study showed that the treatment P2 gave the best in maximum density (60.6 g.L-1 ) and specific growth rate (14.66%. day-1). Keywords: Spirulina platensis, the liquid waste ketchup, Zarrouk media.

Abstract

Desa Pulau Semambu merupakan suatu desa yang terdapat di Kabupaten Ogan Ilir yang memiliki potensial untuk dilakukan pengembangan bidang perikanan terutama dibidang budidaya ikan perairan tawar. Permasalahan dihadapi oleh pembudidaya ikan yang menjadi mitra adalah tingginya harga pakan di pasar sehingga menyebabkan keuntungan yang diperoleh oleh mitra rendah. Hal ini mendorong tim pelaksana untuk menginisiasi untuk membantu menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut yaitu dengan membuat pakan tambahan. Pakan tambahan merupakan pakan yang diberikan selain pakan utama berupa pelet. Salah satu bahan yang dapat digunakan antara lain dedak dan ampas tahu. Penggunaan pakan tambahan berupa fermentasi dedak dengan ampas tahu diharapkan dapat mengurangi penggunaan pakan komersial sehingga dapat mengurangi penggunaan pakan komersil dan menghasilkan pertumbuhan ikan yang tinggi. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu: (1) Tahap persiapan, (2) Tahap sosialisasi atau penyuluhan dan pelatihan pembuatan pakan tambahan, (3) Tahap monitoring dan evaluasi dengan pendampingan teknis pemeliharaan ikan di lokasi mitra oleh mahasiswa praktek lapang. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh, kelompok pembudidaya sangat antusias mengikuti kegiatan penyuluhan dan secara aktif mengajukan pertanyaan pada sesi diskusi. Berdasarkan dempot yang dilakukan diperoleh bahwa ikan yang diberikan pakan tambahan menghasilkan pertumbuhan bobot dan panjang mutlak serta efisiensi pakan ikan patin yang tinggi yaitu sebesar masing-masing sebesar 6,7 g, 5,2 cm dan 133,0 %. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa pakan tambahan berupa fermentasi dedak dengan ampas tahu dapat diterapkan dalam budidaya ikan patin. Kata kunci: Pakan tambahan, Ikan patin, Desa Pulau Semambu ABSTRACT Pulau Semambu Village located in Ogan Ilir Regency has the potential to be developed in the fisheries, especially in the freshwater fish farming. The problem faced by fish farmers who are partners is the high price of feed in the market, which causes the lowly profits obtained by the partners. This prompted the implementation team to initiate to help solve the problem by making additional feed. Additional food is feed given in addition to the main feed in the form of pellets. One ingredient that can be used namely bran and tofu dregs. The use of additional feed form of bran fermentation with tofu waste is expected to reduce the use of commercial feed. The service activities were carried out through several stages: (1) Preparation stage, (2) Counseling and training stage for making additional feed, (3) The monitoring and evaluation phase was carried out with a demonstration plot of technical assistance in maintaining fish at a partner location by field practice students. Based on the results obtained, the group of farmers is very enthusiastic about participating in the extension activities and actively asking questions at the discussion session. Based on the demonstration plot that was obtained that the fish which were given additional feed produced growth and efficiency of high catfish feed that for each of 6.7 g, 5.2 cm and 133.0%. This proves that additional feed form bran fermentation with tofu waste can be applied in catfish culture. Keywords: Supplementary feed, Catfish, Pulau Semambu Village

Abstract

Biofloc Technology (BFT) menjadi salah satu teknologi alternatif dalam akuakultur yang bertujuan untuk memperbaiki kualitas air dan meningkatkan efesiensi pemanfaatan nutrisi. Tujuan dari Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk memperkenalkan dan memberikan informasi kepada masyarakat dan petani tentang budidaya ikan Lele dengan sistem bioflok. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di Desa Pandan Arang, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir dengan menggunakan metode pemberdayaan partisipati aktif kelompok pembudidaya ikan pada mitra yang diajak kerjasama dengan transfer ilmu dan teknologi, meliput beberapa tahapan yaitu: 1) Persiapan; 2) Penyuluhan pembuatan pakan dan budidaya ikan; 3) Pembuatan demplot dan pendampingan; 4) Evaluasi dan pembuatan laporan hasil kegiatan. Hasil yang didapat bahwa kegiatan budidaya ikan lele dengan menerapkan sistem bioflok memberikan hasil dapat memperbaiki kualitas air pada budidaya ikan lele, terutama dalam menurunkan nilai ammonia dalam media budidaya. Serta memberikan pertumbuhan optimal pada ikan lele dengan bobot mutlak 8,4 gram/ekor dan pertumbuhan panjang mutlak 8,6 cm/ekor. Kata kunci: Biofloc Technology, Ikan Lele, Desa Pandan Arang, Budidaya Ikan ABSTRACT Biofloc Technology (BFT) is an alternative technology in aquaculture that aims to improve water quality and increase the efficiency of nutrient utilization. The purpose of this social dedication are to introduce and provide information to the public and farmers with biofloc system. This activity is carried out in Pandan Arang Village, Ogan Ilir District with an active participatory empowerment method for farmers fish in partners who are invited to collaborate with the transfer of knowledge and technology, covering several stages, 1) preparation; 2) counseling for feed and fish cultivation; creating demonstration plots and assistance; 4) evaluation and making reports on the results of activities. The results showed that catfish culture using the biofloc technology could improve water quality in catfish aquaculture, particularly in reducing the value of ammonia in the culture medium. It is only used as fertilizers and handicrafts in fewer quantities in Indonesia.  Biomass of water hyacinth can be a local feed raw material which is expected to be a raw material for fish feed potentially especially herbivorous fish such as tawes fish . In addition to water hyacinth, bagasse waste as raw material for fish feed can be one solution. Technological innovation is needed to increase the nutrient content of sugarcane waste which is still low. Making probiotic fermented feed can be used as an alternative to improve the nutrition and digestibility of feed. Degradation of organic compounds can be done with the help of cellulolytic, ligninolytic, and hemicellulolytic bacteria and fungi. In addition to reducing the quantity of waste, it also supports sustainable aquaculture policies. The study aims to reduce water hyacinth weeds in the waters and to utilize bagasse which was considered waste so far as an alternative feed for herbivorous fish.  The results obtained from this review are the manufacture of alternative feeds from water hyacinth and bagasse can be a cheap alternative feed that can support fish growth. It is expected to be an alternative feed made from local weeds and a cheap industrial by-product for herbivorous fish farming.

Application of lime is not only affected by soil and water pH but also affected by organic matter as in peat soil that have high carbon organic.  This research aims to know the effect of calcite lime and various C-organic on water and soil pH for culture of catfish.This research was conducted from July to December 2019 at the Laboratory of Aquaculture Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research use Factorial Completely Randomized Design. Thefirst factor is different dose of calcite lime that are 7000 kg/ha equivalent CaO (K1), 8000 kg/ha equivalent CaO (K2), 9000 kg/ha equivalent CaO (K3), 10000 kg/ha equivalent CaO (K4). The second factor is peat soil with different soil organic carbon that are 19.72% (C1) and 59.98% (C2). The results of this study indicated that K3C1(interaction of dosage of lime 9000 kg/ha equivalent to CaO and 19.62% C-organic) increased the initial soil pH from 3.2 to 7.43, and water pH from 3,2 to 7.33, and produces 100% survival of catfish, absolute growth of length 9.08cm and absolute growth of weight 4.60 g.

Abstract

AbstractSpirulina platensis is a blue-green microalgawhich is frequently used for food and feedsupplements and cosmetic active agent. Thismicroalga also produces a strong antioxidantnamely superoxide dismutase (SOD) used ascosmetic active agent for anti aging and anti freeradicals. SOD was isolated from S. platensis cellbiomass from local isolate grown on latex serumon semipilot (3.5 m 3 ) and pilot scale (40 m 3 )then dried with spray drying or sun drying andcharacterized. SOD was purified with sequentialtwo-stage sedimentation using ammoniumsulphate and fractionated in chromatographiccolumn containing Sephadex G 200. Thefractions were analysed to determine the activity,cofactor metal and amino acid composition of theantioxidant. The results showed thatsedimentation of SOD extract with 80%ammonium sulphate produced SOD with higheractivity compared to that of SOD fromcommercial S. platensis biomass. This SOD wassuccessfully isolated and purified. MetaloenzymeSOD was composed of subunits with molecularweight of 77.78; 71.74; and 19.2 kDa, whichcontained nine types of amino acids with tyrosineand lysine as the major amino acid components.Zn was the most predominant metal on SOD, thenfollowed by Fe and Mn. The main subunitcofactors consisted of Zn 72%, Fe 25%, Mn 2%,and Cu 1%, which were different from thesmall subunit that contained of Zn 55%, Mn 31%,Fe 14%, and Cu 4%. The stability of SOD wasachieved on pH 7.5 and temperature below 25 o C.AbstrakSpirulina platensis adalah mikroalga hijaubiru yang banyak digunakan sebagai suplemenpangan, pakan, dan bahan aktif kosmetika.Mikroalga ini juga menghasilkan antioksidankuat yaitu superoksida dismutase (SOD), yangmerupakan bahan aktif kosmetika anti penuaandini dan pencegah efek radikal bebas. SODdiisolasi dari biomassa sel S. platensis isolat lokalyang dibiakkan dalam serum lateks skalasemipilot (3,5 m 3 ) dan pilot (40 m 3 ) sertadikeringkan dengan cara pengeringan kabut(spray drying) atau penjemuran untuk kemudiandikarakterisasi. SOD dimurnikan dengan peng-endapan bertingkat menggunakan ammoniumsulfat dan dipisahkan dengan kolom kromatografiberisi Sephadex G 200. Hasil pemisahankemudian dianalisis untuk menentukan aktivitas,logam kofaktor serta komposisi asam amino antioksidan tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkanbahwa pengendapan ekstrak SOD denganSOD lebih tinggi dari SOD asal biomassaS. platensis komersial. SOD tersebut telahberhasil diisolasi dan dimurnikan. MetaloenzimSOD tersusun atas subunit dengan BM 77,78;71,74; dan 19,2 kDa, yang mengandungsembilan jenis asam amino dengan tirosin danlisin sebagai komponen asam amino utama.Logam yang dominan pada SOD adalah Zn,disusul kemudian Fe dan Mn. Abstract

Pangasius catfish rearing ponds and swamp waters are types of stagnant waters (lentic) that are commonly found in the South Sumatra region. Cyanobacter is a group of phytoplankton that plays an important role in the management of aquatic area, but it is not widely known which species is the most dominant in swamp waters. This study aims to determine the types of cyanobacter that are abundant in the swamps and Pangasius catfish cultivation ponds in Ogan Olir, South Sumatra. This research has been carried out by cyanobacter isolation from the swamp water and the pond, isolate liquid cultivation, DNA isolation, 16S rRNA gene amplification and DNA amplicon sequencing. The sequencing results were analyzed using BLAST (Basic local alignment search tool-nucleotide) and MEGA 6 with the help of NCBI gene bank data to obtain a phylogenetic tree for predicting the identity of the cyanobacter isolates. Based on the morphological characters, it is suspected that the pond isolates are similar to Synechoccocus and swamp isolates similar to Microcystis genera. The amplification of cyanobacter DNA using the PCR method with the universal 16S rRNA 63F (Forward) and 1387 R (Reverse) resulted 1302-1307 base pairs. Analysis using BLAST showed that the cyanobacter isolates from ponds have 91% similar to Uncultured Synechoccocus sp. from Australia, while the swamp isolates have 86% similar to Microcystis sp. from China. Key words : Cyanobacteria, Microcystis, PCR, Phylogenetic, Synechococcus

Riyadhi et al, 2019. The Using of Water Jasmine (Echinodorus palaefolius) as Biological Filter on Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)  Rearing. JLSO 8(1):67-76. Water quality was one factors that become a contraint in ornamentalfish culture. This study aimed to compare the result of  jasmine water as a biological filter in maintaining water quality and reducing organic matter in the rearing of angelfish with a recirculation system. This research was conducted for 28 days at the Basic Laboratory of  Aquaculture, Departement of aquaculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. The research Used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed that water quality  of  the temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrat and  phosphate values was (27.2-29.2ºC), (5.7-6.9), (4.68-5.74 mgL-1), (0.005-0.037 mgL-1), (0,06-0,12 mgL-1) and ( 0.013-0.107 mgL-1). In treatment P0 the lowest fish survival was 44.45%, absolute length growth was 1.56 ± 0.26 cm, absolute weight growth was 1.47 ± 0.34 g, feed efficiency was 40,54 ± 2,54. While in treatment P4 the highest survival was 72.22%, absolute length growth was 1.24 ± 0.17, absolute weight growth was 1.25 ± 0.24 g feed efficiency 51.32 ± 13. The survival rate of angelfish in the treatment  without using water jasmine showed the lowest percentage of survival compared to other treatment.
