Abstract

World Health Organization (WHO) approximates 1.28 billion individual suffers hypertension, with 46% of them does not realize it, and only 1 of 5 hypertensive individual has their blood pressure controlled. Hypertension prevalence is still relatively high in the elderly population who live in nursing home. This is one of the main health adversities that often happens and should not be underestimated due to its risk of complications. Uncontrolled blood pressure is one of the main risk factor to the global disease burden and total of global death, contributing up to 9,4 millions of deaths (8,5% of the global total) annually. This activity aims to increase the knowledge of the community about hypertension in elderly who lives in nursing home to increase the quality of life and reducing the cost burden of therapies and treatments. We use PDCA activity method to ensure the program could run smoothly and efficiently. This activity included 34 elderly respondents of the St Fransiscus Community with the mean age of 4 (11,8%) years. We found that 4 (11,8%) of the respondents have uncontrolled blood pressure. With the implementation of this program, it is hoped that the public awareness of elderly hypertension and its prevention is increased, so that there will be increase of quality of life for the elderly in the future and relieving the economical burden.

Abstract

Peripheral Arterial disease is a condition in which the peripheral arteries carrying blood to the extremities of the body, such as the feet and hands, become narrowed or blocked due to the large amount of atherosclerotic plaque. The effects of this disease include pain, cramps, difficulty walking, and decreased quality of life. Peripheral artery disease also increases the risk of serious complications such as poorly healing wounds, gangrene, infection and even amputation. In addition, peripheral artery disease can be a sign of more extensive blood vessel disease, such as coronary heart disease or stroke. Therefore, early attention, appropriate treatment, and healthy lifestyle changes are very important to reduce the negative effects of peripheral arterial disease. This community service activity was carried out at the Kalam Kudus Foundation on June 9, 2023. All participants received education and physical care related to peripheral vascular disease. The results of the physical examination revealed that there were 8 (15.4%) respondents with suspected peripheral arterial disease (ABI <0.9) and 4 (7.7%) respondents with suspected vascular calcification (ABI > 1.3). Community Education and Physical Examination with Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) is an important activity in the prevention and management of peripheral arterial disease. Through community outreach, awareness about peripheral arterial disease can be increased, early symptoms can be identified, and preventive measures can be stepped up. Meanwhile, physical examination with ABI helps detect this disease early, allows timely intervention, and reduces the risk of serious complications. Through the combination of these two approaches, we can increase public understanding, reduce the risk of developing peripheral arterial disease, and improve the quality of life of individuals affected by this disease.

Abstract

Parents and other mental health stakeholders are becoming more concerned about emotional and behavioral disorders (EBPs) in teenagers. These issues, which typically arise in infancy or adolescence, have an impact on relationships, academic achievement, and other areas. They may even persist into adulthood as mental health disorders (MHD). Using the Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-17) questionnaire, the risk of behavioral, emotional, and psychosocial disorders was assessed in this activity. It is anticipated that early detection—made possible by instruments like the PSC-17—will avert long-term issues brought on by behavioral, emotional, and psychological illnesses.

Abstract

: Counseling and screening anxiety in adolescents is an important activity in supporting adolescent mental health. Counseling activities aim to provide relevant understanding and information about anxiety in adolescents, including definitions, causes, impacts, and effective management strategies. Through interactive methods, participants are given the opportunity to share experiences and gain a better understanding of anxiety. Meanwhile, anxiety screening in adolescents aims to early detect adolescents who may experience anxiety. Using structured questions and questionnaires, mental health professionals can evaluate adolescents' anxiety levels and direct them to appropriate sources of help. Early detection of anxiety allows adolescents to get appropriate interventions and prevent further negative impacts. Counseling activities and anxiety screening in adolescents have significant benefits. Education helps reduce the stigma associated with anxiety and provides youth with the knowledge and skills to recognize and deal with anxiety in healthy ways. Anxiety screening allows teens to get help earlier and prevent anxiety from getting worse. By actively involving adolescents in counseling and screening activities, they can feel supported and gain a better understanding of anxiety. It is hoped that through these activities, youth can develop positive stress management skills, improve mental well-being, and live a more balanced and productive teenage years.

Abstract

Sarcopenia is a progressive degenerative condition characterized by a decrease in muscle mass, strength, and musculoskeletal function, affecting the quality of life of the elderly. This activity aims to screen for vitamin D and educate the elderly about sarcopenia. Community service activities were carried out in nursing homes, involving education and screening of vitamin D levels. The results showed that the majority of respondents were women (79.6%) with an average age of 74.05 years. Most respondents experienced vitamin D deficiency, with 87.1% deficient, 3.2% adequate, and only 9.7% having good levels, with it being found that more women experienced vitamin D deficiency than men. Education regarding the importance of vitamin D and preventing sarcopenia is provided through outreach sessions and poster media. This activity emphasizes the importance of early detection and comprehensive intervention including physical exercise, proper nutritional intake, and lifestyle modification to prevent sarcopenia and improve the quality of life of the elderly. Community-based interventions are needed to address vitamin D deficiency and promote musculoskeletal health in the aging population.

Abstract

Counseling activities and waist circumference screening in the context of early detection of obesity in male students aim to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining health and preventing obesity among male students. This activity was carried out using a combination approach between counseling and waist circumference screening. The counseling was conducted to provide a better understanding of the risk of obesity and the importance of measuring waist circumference as an indicator of health. Boys were given information about the negative impact of obesity on physical and psychological health, as well as the importance of a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. In addition to counseling, this activity also involves screening waist circumference as a method for early detection of the risk of obesity. Boys' waist circumference was measured using a measuring tape, and the measurement results were compared with a predetermined reference standard. This helps identify students who are in the waist circumference range who are at risk and require further follow-up in obesity prevention and management. The results of this activity show that male students need to understand the importance of maintaining health and managing their weight well. Waist circumference screening provides useful information in evaluating the risk of obesity in male students. In efforts to prevent and control obesity, collaboration between families, educators and medical personnel is very important to provide the necessary support, understanding and guidance
