Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that can reduce free radicals. Antioxidant compounds in the form of synthetic compounds and natural compounds. One of the plants with antioxidant activity is areca nut (Areca catechu L.). Areca seed extract contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, triterpenoids, tannins and has potential antioxidant activity. This study aims to determine the differences in PVA base concentration variations on the physical quality and stability tests of peel-off gel mask preparations and the antioxidant activity of piji areca nut (Areca catechu L.) extract.  This study used areca nut powder which was macerated using 96% ethanol. Areca seed extract is made into a formulation for peel-off gel masks using a PVA base with various concentrations of 10%, 12%, and 14%. Testing the physical quality of the gel peel-off mask preparations included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, dry time, and stability tests. Antioxidant testing of mask preparations was carried out using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 516 nm. The research results were analyzed using SPSS on the One Way ANOVA method and independent t test. The results showed that areca seed extract can be formulated into a gel peel-off mask preparation with good physical quality. Formula 2 is a gel peel-off mask preparation which has good physical quality. Antioxidant activity in formula 2 has an IC50 value of 71.789 ppm which is a strong antioxidant.

Abstract

The Lavender and Grass oil Aromatherapy Making Training is a Community Service project to disseminate relevant knowledge and technology that is easy to use. In addition, it provides value by improving skills and motivate to establish a home industry in the pursuit of a small business. A USB Pharmacy lecturer conducted this program for people of the Genengan community, located at RT 08 RW 12, Mojosongo Village, Jebres Sub-district, Surakarta City. Oils from Lemongrass and Lavender Herbs are used in aromatherapy making training. These organic components have not yet been utilized by community members or locals to produce aromatherapy that is beneficial to their health. Typically, pharmacies charge relatively high costs for products that include aromatherapy. It is envisaged that the Geneng community's training in aromatherapy production will boost the village's added value. Making products for aromatherapy using lavender and lemongrass is one of the projects that has the potential to be used as a home industry activity.

Abstract

The residents of Karangturi in Triyagan village, located in Mojolaban sub-district of Sukoharjo regency, require further training to enhance family health care using readily available traditional materials. They also need motivation to start home-based industries to boost entrepreneurship and the local economy. Hence, there is a necessity for educational and training programs focused on making Natural Herbal Soap. This community service initiative is divided into two segments:Firstly, providing education on the health benefits of traditional natural ingredients. Secondly, offering training on creating Natural Herbal Soap by combining oils (olive oil and coconut oil) with an alkaline solution (NaOH), which will produce a thick liquid known as trace. This mixture is then blended with essential oils (green tea, chamomile, lemongrass) and left to solidify. The objective of these activities is to equip the community with the skills to make Natural Herbal Soap easily and with low capital investment. This skill can be a viable option for enhancing family entrepreneurship and improving daily family health.
