Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving ability of students in solving geometry problem of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Subjects were selected by considering the result of the mathematics ability of 53 students in grade X through a preliminary problem. Then, the students was grouped into 3 categories: high-skilled subject, medium-skilled subject, and low-skilled subject. From each categories, the researchers picked one student as a research subject considering their communication skills to make researcher easy to describe the subects? process in solving the problem. The research was held by give each subject a geometry problem that is adapted from PISA problem, and then the researchers provide an interview for each subject. The results of this study analyzed by a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the high-skilled subject abled in understanding the problem, planning, and implementing strategy properly, as well as looking back in the calculation section. For the medium-skilled subject already made mistakes in understanding and planning the problem, so that the subject implemented the wrong strategy, besides the subject corrected to the concept only. The low-skilled subject made mistakes in understanding and planing the problem so that the subject implemented the wrong strategy. In addition, the low-skilled subject did not look back at his work.

Abstract

Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam membuat grafik dari suatu fungsi rasional. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa jenjang S1 program studi pendidikan matematika. Data dikumpulkan dengan memberikan soal tes fungsi rasional kepada 34 mahasiswa. Hasil pekerjaan mahasiswa tersebut kemudian dianalisis dengan melakukan identifikasi kecenderungan pola kesalahan dan menelaah penyebab kesalahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya 6% dari 34 mahasiswa yang mampu menggambar grafik dari fungsi rasional yang diberikan secara tepat. Mahasiswa cenderung membuat kesalahan ketika menentukan asimtot vertikal, titik potong sumbu Y, juga ketika menentukan letak ‘lubang’ dari fungsi rasional yang diberikan. Penyebab kesalahan secara umum dapat dikategorikan sebagai kesalahan prosedural dan kesalahan karena kurangnya pemahaman konsep, baik konsep berupa materi prasyarat atau materi pokok.Abstract:This study aimed to describe the ability of students in making graphs of a rational function. The type of this research was qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were undergraduate students in Mathematics Education department. Data were collected by giving rational function test to 34 students. The results of students’ work were analyzed by identifying the tendency of error patterns and examining the causes of errors. The results showed that only 6% of 34 students were able to draw graphs of rational functions given precisely. Students tended to make mistakes when determining the vertical asymptote, the intersection of the Y-axis, also when determining the 'hole' location of a given rational function. Causes of errors could generally be categorized as procedural errors and errors due to lack of understanding of concepts, both concepts in the form of prerequisite material or subject matter.

Abstract

Dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika, berpikir inkuiri pada model pembelajaran inkuiri berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) siswa. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir inkuiri siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah HOTS yang diadaptasi dari soal PISA dan ditinjau dari tingkat kognitif siswa. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sedangkan teknik penentuan subjek menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan mengambil 3 subjek yang terdiri dari subjek yang memiliki tingkat kognitif tinggi, sedang, dan rendah berdasarkan nilai rapor siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Adapun triangulasi yang digunakan untuk menguji keabsahan data adalah triangulasi metode. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan. Subjek 1 yang memiliki kognitif tinggi memenuhi semua indikator yakni mengamati, menyelidiki, menemukan sifat, mengeneralisasi serta menemukan hubungan secara detail dan sistematis dalam menyelesaikan masalah yang diberikan. Subjek 2 yang memiliki kognitif sedang mengalami kesulitan dalam menemukan hasil dari strategi yang diterapkan. Sedangkan Subjek 3 yang memiliki kognitif rendah menyelesaikan masalah dengan alur penyelesaian yang berbedaa dari subjek lainnya, yaitu mengamati objek, menyelidiki, menyusun generalisasi, menemukan sifat, lalu menemukan hubungan. Sedangkan pada sisi proses, ke-3 subjek memiliki ciri khas masing-masing dalam mendekati masalah. In solving math problems, inquiry thinking in the inquiry learning model plays an important role in improving students' high-level thinking skills (HOTS). Therefore, this study aims to describe the student's inquiry thinking process in solving HOTS problems adapted from PISA questions and reviewed from the student's cognitive level. The method used in this study is descriptive with a qualitative approach. As for the subject determination technique, researchers used purposive sampling techniques by taking 3 subjects consisting of subjects with high, medium, and low cognitive value based on student report scores. Data collection techniques are performed with tests, interviews, and documentation. The triangulation used by researchers to test the validity of data is the method triangulation. The results showed highly cognitive S1 meets all indicators: observing, investigating, discovering traits, generalizing and finding relationships in detail and systematically in solving given problems. S2 who have cognitive difficulties in finding the results of the strategies applied. Meanwhile, S3, which has low cognitive solving problems with different settlement flows than other subjects, is observing objects, investigating, generalizing, discovering traits, and then finding relationships. While on the process side, all 3 subjects have their own characteristics in approaching the problem.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to describe students’ achievement in solving word problem based on the students’ ability to make multiple representations. This research conducted by give two word problems to 29 students in XII SMA. In each problem, students asked to make visual and symbolic representation which is represents the story given, and then solve the problem with the procedure to solve it as detail as possible. The research result shows that (1) students’ ability to make a symbolic representation is better than the students’ ability to make a visual representation, (2) the students’ inability to make a visual representation doesn’t effect the achievement in problem solving, (3) the students whom can’t make a symbolic representation which is compatible with the problem given tend to unable to make a visual representation which is represents the problem and use try and error strategy to solve the problem. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keberhasilan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita ditinjau dari segi  kemampuan siswa tersebut dalam membuat berbagai representasi matematis. Penelitian dilakukan dengan memberikan dua masalah berupa soal cerita kepada 29 siswa kelas XII SMA. Pada setiap soal, siswa diminta untuk membuat representasi visual dan simbolik yang sesuai dengan cerita yang diberikan, kemudian siswa diminta untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut dengan menyertakan langkah-langkah penyelesaian sedetail mungkin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) kemampuan siswa dalam membuat representasi simbolik lebih baik daripada kemampuan siswa dalam membuat representasi visual, (2) ketidakmampuan siswa dalam membuat representasi visual tidak memengaruhi keberhasilan siswa tersebut dalam memecahkan masalah, (3) siswa yang tidak mampu membuat representasi simbolik cenderung juga tidak bisa membuat representasi visual yang sesuai dengan masalah dan menggunakan strategi try and error untuk menyelesaikan masalah.

Abstract

Communication is an essential ability for every human being. In this study, the focus of communication was on students' mathematical communication. Mathematical communication is a person's ability to express their thoughts and is responsible for listening, interpreting, asking, and interpreting ideas from one to another to solve problems. This study aimed to describe the mathematical communication of Sombron Elementary School students in solving mathematical problems. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were 23 students in class VI Sombron Elementary School. Three issues were selected for more in-depth analysis because they represented three categories: high, medium, and low ability students. Based on the subjects' works, the students could not communicate their mathematical ideas well yet. The most common communication error was a mistake in changing the word problem into a settlement model form. Based on the results and discussions that have been carried out with three different subjects, high ability student (ST), moderate ability student (SS), and low ability student (SR) of Sombron Elementary School at class VI, it can be concluded that ST and SS understand the meaning of the problem given and they know what was asked from the issue, but they did not use a correct symbol while writing their idea. ST and SS also made some mistakes in using mathematics symbols.

Abstract

The development of technology in the age of the fourth industrial revolution affects almost every aspect of human lives, including education sector. Therefore, learning innovations are needed in order to meet learning objectives. The objectives are coaching people who are competitive and have 4C skills (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation). One of the learning innovations in mathematics is the application of concrete and digital learning media. To explore and summarize the latest facts related to the concrete and digital mathematics learning media during industry 4.0, the authors of this study conducted a research using Systematic Literature Review method. A total of 30 literatures from various databases were interpreted. A review was drawn on the uses, strengths, and weaknesses of digital and concrete mathematics learning media during industry 4.0. The concrete learning media has advantages which include improving students’ problem solving, creative thinking, and visual thinking skills, but it requires more attention and care. Meanwhile, the advantages of digital learning media include increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of learning mathematics, supporting distance learning, and not requiring special maintenance. Nevertheless, there are still students and teachers who are not familiar with technology, some students do not have gadgets, and there are also inadequate internet networks in some areas.

Abstract

Giving assignments as an assessment in online learning during the pandemic needs to be well-considered properly so that students are not frustrated with the piling up tasks but are unable to give educators an idea of ​​students' concepts understanding. This qualitative study aims to describe students’ responses to assignments in the form of journal writing in the Real Analysis course. The research was conducted by asking 109 students who took the Real Analysis class to write journal. At the end of the semester, students were asked to fill out a survei to find out the student's response to the task of writing a journal. Several students were then interviewed to get a more detailed information of the responses given in the survei. The results showed that 94% of the 109 students considered journal writing assignments need to be given in the Real Analysis course. As many as 99% of students agree that the feedback given by the lecturer helps students understand the material. Finally, 94% of students agree that journal-writing assignments are effective for improving understanding in the Real Analysis course. The results of the analysis of journals written by students showed that on average, more than 80% of students wrote notes related to concepts they had previously. It shows a meaningful learning process so that journal-writing assignments can be an alternative to achieve meaningful learning, especially in online learning during a pandemic.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji beberapa sumber pustaka yaitu mengenai peran media pembelajaran berbasis android pada peserta didik apabila ditinjau dari kepribadiannya. Hasil dari penelitian ini akan dijadikan sebagai bahan pustaka utama dalam pelaksanaan penelitian berikutnya yaitu mengenai peran media pembelajaran berbasis android pada peserta didik ditinjau dari kepribadian. Penelitian ini khusus membicarakan tipe kepribadian menurut Carl Gustav Jung yang membedakan dua tipe kepribadian yaitu, tipe kepribadian introvesi (introvert) dan ekstraversi (extrovert). Jenis penelitian ini yaitu studi literatur, adapun langkah-langkah dalam penelitian ini, yaitu (1) mengumpulkan sumber pustaka sesuai dengan penelitian ini dengan melakukan review pada istilah penting yang digunakan dalam penelitian, (2) mengumpulkan sumber pustaka pada hasil penelitian yang relevan, hal ini bertujuan agar memperkaya proses analisis, sehingga hasil analisis dapat menyimpulkan hasil yang objektif, (3) langkah berikutnya, yaitu melakukan analisis secara mendalam terhadap semua sumber pustaka yang telah dikumpulkan dengan dilanjutkan menyusun pembahasan, kemudian, setelah melakukan pembahasan, (4) mengambil kesimpulan dari hasil analisis, (5) berikutnya, yaitu memberikan pengajuan saran berdasarkan temuan-temuan yang diperoleh. Hasil penelitian studi literatur ini menunjukkan bahwa peranan media pembelajaran berbasis android ditinjau melalui kepribadian siswa memiliki peranan dalam pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dan menyenangkan, serta tepat sasaran sesuai dengan karakteristik kepribadian peserta didik. Abstract The purpose of this study is the role of android-based learning media on students when viewed from their personality. Here researchers specifically discuss personality types according to Carl Gustav Jung who distinguishes two personality types namely, introverted and extroverted personality types. This type of research is the study of literature, as for the steps in this study, namely (1) collecting literature in accordance with this research by conducting a review of important terms used in research, (2) collecting literature on relevant research results, this aims in order to enrich the analysis process, so that the analysis results can conclude objective results, (3) the next step, which is to conduct an in-depth analysis of all the literature that has been collected by continuing to compile the discussion, then, after conducting the discussion, (4) drawing conclusions from the results of the analysis , (5) next, which is giving suggestions based on the findings obtained. The conclusion of this research is the role of android-based learning media reviewed through the personality of students has a role in learning more effective and fun, and right on target in accordance with the personality characteristics of students. Abstract

Kebijakan pemerintah untuk melangsungkan pembelajaran secara daring sebagai dampak dari pandemi Covid-19 mengakibatkan pendidik dan peserta didik perlu beradaptasi pada perubahan dengan cukup cepat. Hal ini memunculkan tantangan tersendiri dalam pem-belajaran Matematika. Salah satu tantangan untuk pendidik adalah memastikan setiap peserta didik memahami konsep matematis dan pendidik dapat memberikan feedback untuk kesulitan yang dialami peserta didik meskipun pembelajaran tidak dilakukan secara tatap muka. Salah satu solusi untuk mengatasi hal tersebut adalah melalui penugasan berupa penulisan jurnal matematika. Untuk mengeksplor fakta terkait penulisan jurnal pada pembelaja-ran Matematika, peneliti melakukan penelitian dengan metode Systematic Literature Review. Sebanyak 20 literatur terkait yang merupakan hasil penyaringan dari berbagai database, di-interpretasi dan dikaitkan dengan kondisi pembelajaran Matematika secara daring pada ma-sa pandemi untuk menghasilkan kajian tentang peran penulisan jurnal pada pembelajaran Matematika secara daring. Berdasarkan hasil review, peran penugasan penulisan jurnal ada-lah mampu mendukung pembelajaran matematika secara daring, yaitu meningkatkan pema-haman konsep matematis, sebagai alat refleksi diri peserta didik, mendorong peserta didik untuk mengekspresikan diri dengan bebas, perantara komunikasi antara pendidik dan peserta didik serta menjadikan peserta didik menjadi lebih terbuka dalam mengungkapkan pendapat dan pertanyaan.
