Abstract

A natural zeolite was used to investigate its adsorption capacity for the color from sasirangan textile wastewater in this experiment. This study aims to analyze the performance of zeolite bed height and flow rate arrangements at constant pH and temperature on the effectiveness of color removal in sasirangan wastewater, and to study the adsorption kinetics system that occurs in the process. In this study, color adsorption analyzed with a continuous flow of wastewater (flow rate of 20 ml/min, 40 ml/min, and 80 ml/min) into a 2.5 inch diameter column adsorption by zeolite 10 cm, 30 cm, and 60 cm high. Treated water sampling conducted every 10 minutes until the zeolite saturated. The results showed that the performance of the flow rate setting is inversely proportional to the effectiveness of color removal, and otherwise adsorbent bed height setting is directly proportional to the effectiveness of color removal in sasirangan wastewater. The highest percentage removal amounted to 48,30% at a flow rate of 20 ml/min and 30 cm bed height of zeolite, while the lowest is 7,02% at a flow rate 40 ml / min and 10 cm bed height of zeolite. In this study, Thomas Model was fitted to describe the pattern of color adsorption by zeolite with a maximum adsorption capacity of 18,758 mg/g.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the best combination between the bacteria origin, lime, and organic matter for Cr(VI) reduction.  The other objective was to look out the change pattern from Cr(VI) concentration on several period, with hypothesis that bioremediation technology on bacteria, lime, and organic matter combination reduces more Cr(VI) effectively. The results showed that the combination of P.MA origin bacteria with six day period of incubation reduced Cr(IV) for  61,59%.  Other, the combination of I.AB origin bacteria with period of 10, 17 and 24 day incubation, reduced Cr(VI) for 76,67, 73,10, and 80,64%, respectively.  Analysis of variance for all incubation periods showed significant differences with six and 24 day period were the best treatments. However, a field experiment is needed in order to find the best interaction possible between the origin of the bacteria, lime, and organic matter combination, so that optimum recommendation can be determined for the best possible treatments.

Abstract

GedambaanBeachlocated on Jl. Berangas Km. 14 Kabupaten Kotabaru is one of coastal tourism objects in South Kalimantan.  Which is rich of coastal potential as tourism attraction. Based on experience and pre-observation on environment management activity in several coastal tourism object the result appeared differently, especialy in waste treatment becauase there were waste production rising in some particular spots that occurred in less good management system. Considering the importance of mangrove ecosystem existence in coastal area and inclination of polution cases in the area that mostly caused by the waste, it is needed to get describtion about waste treatment methode in tourism object that included in coastal resources use. Therefore the objective of this research is to know the factors that influence the waste management around the tourism object which are 1) Supporting factors, 2) Number of waste Production and waste volume, 3) Waste sort and waste compocition,      4) Waste reduction and waste treatment, 5) To know the environment condition around the tourism object by measuring the fly density. The observation (during May until July 2011) on environment management that related to waste management and environment observation by measuring the fly density in the area should that 1) Supporting factors consist of organization, personal, tools, and budged, 2) Waste production number and waste volume are depend on the number of visitors (128 – 342 individuals perday) and climated change.  The measurement of waste volume in sevent days stretched obout 1.2 – 3.2 m3 perday or 2.1 m3 perday in average, 3) Waste sort and waste compocition ; organic waste such as dry leafes and coconut shells in more frekuently found (8.7 m3) than non-organic waste such as plastics, allumunium cans, bottles and mixed waste from the sea (4.4 m3), 4) Waste reduction and waste treatment ; they were no effort to reduce waste and doing waste treatment.  The waste sorting were done only on coconut shell, and the last step would be burning down the waste. The conclusion of environment observation with fly as bioindacator are 1) There is relation beetwen fly density and the waste treatment.  Chi-square statistic test result should that X2 measurment (9.97) is higher than X2 table (3.84), thus rejected Ho. That stated that “There are no relation beetwen fly density and waste treatment”, 2) The fly density (3.4 – 5.2) interpreted as moderate density, 3) The fly density index ( 3.4 – 5.2 ≤ 6 ) is considered as low therefore the environment management is consider good.

Abstract

Abstract

The method of activated sludge is a wastewater treatment method that utilizes microbial growth processes are suspended.  One of the microbes that play a role in wastewater treatment systems with activated sludge are bacteria. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of sampling time and the combination of retention time on levels of pH, BOD, TSS, H2S and turbidity effluent of beverage industry with waste activated sludge of tofu and identify the bacterial isolates obtained from the beverage industry wastewater treatment with activated sludge waste of tofu and to know the diversity of types of bacteria that play a role in it.  The diversity of bacteria identified in the beverage industry wastewater treatment by activated sludge are five types of Bacillus sp, Acinetobacter sp, Staphylococcos sp, Cardiobacterium sp, and Mycoplasma sp.  These bacteria are most likely a bacterium that plays a role in the degradation of the beverage industry wastewater. Activated sludge method, it is also able to improve water quality, especially for TSS parameter (<200 mg/l) and H2S (<0.05 mg/l).  Sampling time in the morning better than afternoon in the improvement of water quality parameters; for the retention time of 8 hours of sample treatment is better than 6 hours.  Thus, the retrieval time (morning, afternoon) and the retention time of wastewater samples generate all test parameters better than the control.

Abstract

Danau Purun, Danau Jalan Pangen and Danau Kamipang are some of lakes located in Kamipang Sub-district, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. Those lakes are the places to make a living for local people in fulfilling their needs, especially of fish, which is still conducted effectively. However, the people generally tend to desire the business pattern directly giving the yield like capturing fish by using electricity and potassium. The excessive fish capturing business results in the decline of fish population. The objectives of the inventory were to find out the description of how many species of fish population which were alive or survived, and to analyze the water quality and aquatic plants as the supporting capacity of lake waters. The sample collections employed sampling methods on each lake, which were conducted in the morning and afternoon. The instruments and media were gill nets, fishing nets, lalangit, bubu and ancau. The fish sample and alcohol were 70% and 95%. The fish was identified and processed in tabulation. The water quality was measured by applying Horiba Water Checker U-10, Secchi dish and Laboratory Test.
