Abstract

This research aims to explore the prospective teachers activities to enhanceteachers’ teaching skills utilized inquiry by perform reflective collaborativeactivities between teachers, coaches and prospective teachers. Activitiesreflection helps prospective teachers make improvements in the implementationof tasks so that for further learning meetings prospective teachers can improveteaching skills. Improved teaching ability to give impact on teacher activities andstudents who experience improvement at each meeting so that it has aninfluence on student learning outcomes. In understanding the concept ofstudents' average heat energy increased from the average base score of 64.91 to76.22. In understanding the concept of average student sound energy from thebasic score to 81.72. The increase of learning result can be seen from theaverage of N-Gain on the understanding of the concept of heat energy of 0.32medium categories and on the understanding of energy concept of 0.47 mediumcategories. This study concluded that the application of inquiry learning modelcan improve science learning outcomes based on reflection by prospectiveteachers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how fifth-grade students apply creative thinking abilities to solve open-ended mathematical problems. The study was conducted with 19 fifth grade students from a public school in a rural area, Kampar, Indonesia. The data were collected by giving 10 open-ended mathematical problems on whole numbers, fractions, and geometry and measurement. Creative thinking abilities of fifth-grade students in solving open-ended mathematical problems view from three indicators; fluent thinking, flexible thinking and original thinking. The results show that the average ability of students’ creative thinking was 23.68. This means that students’ creative thinking was poor or less creative.

Abstract

The world is shaken as the Covid-19 pandemic. All aspects of human life feel the consequences, including the education. School activity is replaced by online learning at home and teachers is now sharing the burden of teaching with parents. Facing this situation, parents should be able to play a role as children's learning companions at home. In fact, not all parents are ready for this new task. This research aims to find out more about the parental engagement in children's online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Research conducted in Riau province with 148 samples of parents from the first and second grade of elementary school students, who filled the online questionnaire. The design used in this study is a converging design, simultaneously collecting quantitative and qualitative data, combining the data, comparing the results, and explaining all descriptions in the results. The result shows that parental engagement in supervising the children study time is 81,7%, parent role in accompanying children in learning is 80,4%, supervising children study time is 71,8%, recognizing children learning difficulties 69% and providing learning facilities 64.8%. It can be concluded that most of the parents are engaged in children online learning activities, although there are still those who have obstacles and difficulties in dividing time, attention and explaining the lesson to childrens.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of visual thinking learning to problemsolving skill. Quasi experiments with the design of this non-equivalent controlgroup involved Grade V students in one of the Elementary Schools. The design ofthis study was quasi experimental nonequivalent control group, the researchbullet used the existing class. The results of research are: 1) improvement ofproblem soving skill. The learning did not differ significantly between studentswho received conventional learning. 2) there is no interaction between learning(visual thinking and traditional) with students' mathematical skill (upper, middleand lower) on the improvement of skill. 3) there is a difference in the skill oflanguage learning that is being constructed with visual learning of thought interms of student skill (top, middle and bottom).

Abstract

This manuscript is the result of a didactical activity, “Telling mathematics”, elaborated for pupils of Pre-Elementary School in Italy. The aim is to verify if storytelling is a methodology that allows developing approaches to the natural number in a significant way in children belonging to this age group and which mathematical skills are involved when certain processes are stimulated. The manuscript describes the phases in which the teaching experiment was articulated, framed in the Theory of Didactical Situations. In particular, I observe how, thanks to the storytelling, the acquisition of the notion of number in children is conveyed through different approaches to the natural number: cardinal, ordinal, recursive, geometric.
