Abstract

Preliminary studies of needs analysis on the development of biology learning tools show the low learning outcomes of students' cognitive and behavioral characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop learning instruments that aim to develop character-based biology learning tools through inquiry during online learning that achieve valid, useful, and efficient benchmarks. The device consists of four components, namely: lesson plans (RPP), student books (BPD), student worksheets (LKPD), and assessment instruments. This type of research is developmental research by using the 4-D model (four D), which has 4 stages, namely the defining stage, the design stage, the develop stage, and the last stage of dissemination. The final score of the analysis of the validity of the learning instrument states that the biology learning tool with character nuances through inquiry for the sake of improving cognitive and character learning achievement in the online learning period for the subject of plant and animal body structure and function in class XI high school that was developed is suitable to be applied based on the final validation score from validator. Biology learning instruments with character nuances through inquiry so that cognitive and character learning outcomes during the online learning period that are developed are practical and effectively implemented in class XI of high school on the material structure and function of the body of plants and animals have increased. Therefore, biology learning tools with character nuances through inquiry are appropriate to be applied because they have met the practical, valid and effective criteria.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to know the obstacles of online biology learning for class XI-Science students in SMAN 1 Sei Kanan during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were students in class XI-Science of the school. The data collection technique used was questionnaires distributed to the students. The data analysis showed there were some obstacles in biology learning based on indicators as follow; students’ motivation in online learning at a rate of 62.73%, online learning methods at a rate of 52.81%, internet network at a rate of 42.91%, and students’ understanding in learning at a rate of 57.79%. Those were the obstacles for students and teachers when using online learning.

Abstract

At the beginning of 2020 the learning process in Indonesia was disrupted due to the outbreak of Covid-19. The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture has replaced face-to-face learning and learning activities into online-based learning and learning activities. This study aims to analyze online biology learning in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic at SMAN 1 Bilah Hilir. This research used quantitative research with descriptive method. The population in this study were students of class XI (XI IPA-1, XI IPA-2, XI IPA-3, XI IPA-4) at SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hilir as many as 110 students, while the sampling was carried out by total sampling. with a total of 110 students. Data collection was done by using a questionnaire via Google Form which was distributed online via Whatsapp Group to students containing 25 statements. The results of the study consist of the types of applications used in online learning, the results were, students tend to like the use of the WhatsApp application by 72%, followed by the Google Classroom application by 20%, followed by the Zoom Meeting application by 8% and Google Meet by 0% while the acquisition of online biology learning at SMAN 1 Bilah Hilir, the results were online learning facilities by 72%, student responses by 71%, online learning obstacles by 69%, conformity to schedules by 68%, communication between teachers and students by 68%, enthusiasm and enthusiasm by 67% and understanding of the material by 63%.

Abstract

According to observations on the Lower-Level Organisms Taxonomy course, it showed that the questions used in the course have not been presented at the higher-order thinking skill (HOTS) level. HOTS-based questions are one of the assessments in the cognitive domain that function to train HOTS and solve complex problems well. Moreover, it can train critical thinking skills as one aspect of the skills needed in the 21st century. Therefore, this study aims to develop HOTS-based questions on Monera topic to improve students' critical thinking skills. The research was conducted from January to February 2022. Development was carried out using ADDIE approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through the questionnaires and validation instruments by expert validators. The data were analyzed in two ways, namely content validity and construct validity. The results showed that the validity of the questions by expert validators was categorized as very good. Meanwhile, empirical validity shows that there were 10 questions declared valid from a total of 20 questions. The results of reliability test were 0.780 valid with a high interpretation. The test of difficulty level results showed that there were 8 moderate questions and 2 difficult questions. The results of differentiating power test showed that there were 1 very good question, 6 good questions, 2 sufficient questions and 1 weak question. Thus, it can be concluded that from a total of 20 HOTS-based questions that were developed only 10 questions were declared empirically feasible to improve students' critical thinking skills on Monera topic. It is recommended to use these questions in Lower-Level Organisms Taxonomy lectures.

Abstract

Learning media is an important element in the learning process. Innovative learning certainly greatly affects students interest and motivation in learning. One of the learning media that can be used is leaflet. Leaflet is printed media in the form of sheets (folded), equipped with picture and contains a summary of material related to a subject. This research is a research that aims to examine the results of the analysis of the use of leaflet in the learning process from the result of various tests that have been carried out previosly. This research is also used to find out how the influence of the use of the leaflet media on student learning outcomes.  This research was conducted using a meta-analysis method, riviewing library sources such as articles, theses and related journals. Based on the results of the analysis of the research that has been done by the researcher, it shows that this leaflet-based learning media has a high effect on increasing students understanding and activity in learning. The increase in student learning activities also has an impact outcomes in the learning process.

Abstract

Fungi are found widely in tropical areas throughout the world, including Indonesia. Banten Province is estimated to have a high diversity of macrofungi. This study aims to explore and describe the morphological characteristics of macrofungi and their potential use in the area of Curug Leuwi Mangrod Cibojong, Padarincang, Serang Regency, Banten. The research was conducted in September - October 2021 using the cruising method. A total of 10 species of macrofungi consisting of 1 species of the Ascomycota division and 9 species of the Basidiomycota division were found around the waterfall from various substrates, both on the soil surface and on rotten tree trunks. A total of 3 species were found to be potential sources of food, 9 species had the potential to be used as medicinal ingredients. Information on the diversity and potential use of macrofungi can be used as a basis for further macrofungi development.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the 5E learning cycle model on critical thinking skills in the theme of my environment being polluted at SMP Negeri 1 Candimulyo. The form of the research design used is the nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study was all seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Candimulyo while the samples used were class VII C as the experimental class and class VII D as the control class obtained through cluster sampling technique. The results showed that the indicator that had the highest increase was the explanation indicator with an average difference of 30,38 while the indicator that had the lowest increase was the inference indicator with an average difference of 11,53. In addition, from the data analysis conducted using the effect size test, the effect size (d) value was 1,762 with very high effect criteria. The effectiveness of the 5E Learning Cycle application in improving critical thinking skills can be further developed by implementing the model in the face-to-face learning process with appropriate time allocation in maximizing each learning stage.

Abstract

This study aims to inform about the gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, the first body size of maturity (L50), and the fecundity of Harpiosquilla raphidea in Labuhanbatu regency waters, North Sumatera. The study was conducted for three months from December 2021 to February 2022 with samplings were conducted twice a month. The purposive random sampling method used to determine of three stations of this research. Samples of H. raphidea were caught with shrimp trawl nets.  The results describe that population of mantis shrimp H. raphidea in Labuhanbatu regency were dominate in first gonad maturity stage. The Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) value of male H. raphidea mantis ranged from 6.00 – 11.87 and the female ranged from 5.12 – 12.75. The first maturity size of male were 19.88 cmBL and female H. raphidea were 18.75 cmBL. The fecundity of this mantis shrimp H. raphidea  in station research ranged from 130,088 to 970,658.

Abstract

Bioethanol is an alternative energy that is starting to be needed, along with the depletion of petroleum reserves. Bioethanol can be obtained from various wastes, including palm oil trunk waste which contains 86.03% cellulose. The purpose of this study was to determine the production of bioethanol from oil palm trunk waste by treatment with crude enzymes Trichoderma reesei and Aspergillus niger. This research is an experimental study using a completely randomized design, namely the ratio of crude enzymes from Trichoderma reesei and Aspergillus niger (0:0), (1:0), (0:1), (1:1), (2:1), (1:2), (3:1), (1:3) on sugar and bioethanol content of fermented oil palm stem waste using Zymomonas mobilis. Sugar content was measured using the DNS method, bioethanol content was measured using an alcoholmeter. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The results showed that the crude enzymes T. reesei and A. niger could increase the sugar content, namely the ratio of crude enzymes T. reesei and A. niger 3:1 (11.89 g/mL). The highest bioethanol content was in the ratio of crude enzymes T. reesei and A. niger (2:1), which was 2.34%.

Abstract

Sugarcane productivity included cane yield and sugar extracted rate (rendemen) fluctuated annually. The main causes of low sugarcane productivity is quality of planting material with no high sugar extracted rate (sugar rendemen) potential, resistance to pests and diseases, stability production, tolerance to climate changed and early age of harvest. For increasing of the yield productivity and producing a superior sugarcane planting material with competitiveness cost, the vegetative propagation through in vitro culture technique via shoot tip culture was carried out. The objective of this research is to produce a superior sugarcane planting in vitro and analyze the costs required. The research was carried out at the Tissue Culture Laboratory, PT. Gunung Madu Plantations (GMP) in March-May 2021. The research stages started from the preparation of explant source plants, sterilization of explants and tools, manufacture of stock solutions and planting media, subculture, and analysis of the costs needed to provide superior sugarcane seeds. The results showed that the basal swelling of explants, increasing the number of shoots, root elongation, and the method of providing superior sugarcane seeds from apical shoot explants in vitro were relatively more competitive with the price of plantlets per culture tube contained 10 clones costly were Rp. 20,328, compared with conventional propagation methods. with the price of sugar cane seedlings material were Rp 1,603/stem.
