Abstract

Abstract This research was conducted to find out whether or not The Use of Contextual Teaching and Learning Method was Improve Students’ Understanding on The use of Relative Clause at Sorong Muhammadiyah University. The research method employed was quasi experimental groups. The population of this research was conducted at fifth semesters on English Education Department at Sorong Muhammadiyah University. The sample was chosen by applying stratified sampling technique. This research assigned two groups namely control and experimental groups. Each group consisted of 20 students.. Instrument of this research was test. The research gets the result that Contextual Teaching and Learning Method was effective to improve students’ understanding on the use of Relative Clause. The result of test showed that there was significant progress in students. The results of the research showed that mean score posttest of the experimental group was 84 and the control group was 80. It means that the result of the mean score posttest of experimental group is higher than control group. By using the degree of significance 5% or 0.05 in the t-table it was gotten 2.021. So that t-test value was more than of t-table value (H1: 5,31 > 2.021), So that alternative hypothesis is accepted, while Null hypothesis is rejected (Ho: 5,31 < 2.021). It can be proved that there was a significant on Contextual teaching and Learning method to improve students’ understanding on the use of relative clause. Key words: Relative Clause, Contextual Teaching and Learning.

Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted with the aim of proving that teaching English through word association can develop the vocabulary of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah Al Amin Sorong. The sample of the research was 31 students in VIII A class at SMP Muhammadiyah Al Amin Sorong. In collecting the data he used tests (Pre-test and Post-test). The research applied pre-test and post-test one group design. The instrument of data collection was a test. The data analyzed statistically. The result of the data analysis has shown that there was a significant difference between the results of pre-test and post-test. It was proved through the testing hypothesis, i.e. applying 0.05 level significance with 30 (31-1) the degree of freedom (df), the researcher found that t-test (7.3) was greater than the value of the t-table (1.697). In conclusion, the word association was effective to be used in teaching English Vocabulary.

Abstract

This research is aimed to conduct research about using Group Investigation Method to improve students’ speaking ability. Therefore, the researcher observed in English Department of Sorong Muhammadiyah University. The researcher uses quantitative method and the design of this research used pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample of this research was taken from third semester of class C in Teacher and Trainning Education Faculty in English Department of Sorong Muhammadiyah University. The sample was taken with randomized sampling and consisted of 30 students. Based on the result teaching reading used collaborative strategy reading at the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 sorong. The researcher found that the teaching reading using collaborative strategy reading did not give much influence to students reading ability. With the use of Collaborative Strategy Reading in teaching and learning made the students very happy and they think that the strategy of reading was interested in improving the foreign language of them. They gave good response and active in the class. Where the mean score of pre test was 31,67 and the mean score of post test was 46,67 and the t – test was 12.5 and t - table was 1.714. Based on the analysis of the research, Collaborative Strategy Reading,did not give much influence to student reading ability.This statement was proved because in control group students also could improve their reading skill well at the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 Sorong When the t- test was 12.5 more high than t- table was 1.714.

Abstract

AbstrakBerdasarkan hasil observasi dilapangan penulis menemukan salah satu masalah yang dihadapi dalam proses belajar mengajar yaitu siswa menganggap bahwa pelajaran Bahasa Inggris sulit dipahami dan membosankan, sehingga kurang menarik minat untuk mempelajarinya, serta kebiasaan para guru yang selalu monoton dalam ruangan sehingga para siswa kurang aktif dan kurang komunikatif dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa inggris.Metode TPR (Total Physical Response) sebagai sebuah metode pengajaran bahasa yang dibangun di sekitar koordinasi ucapan dan tindakan telah dipilih sebagai metode pembelajaran yang bertujuan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan pemahaman bahasa inggris siswa dalam mata pelajaran bahasa inggris khususnya materi imperative dalam prosedure teks. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan sebagai proses pengkajian bersiklus yang terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu Perencanaan, Tindakan, Pengamatan, serta Refleksi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, Hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas X 8 Watampone melalui pembelajaran metode pembelajaran TPR mengalami peningkatan. Hal ini terlihat dari nilai rata – rata 58,28 meningkat menjadi 78,15 dari skor ideal yang yang mungkin mencapai yaitu 100 dan berada pada kategori penelitian tinggi ( setelah dilaksanakannya Penelitian Tindakan Kelas pada siklus II ). Peningkatan kehadiran siswa juga meningkat dari 97,3% menjadi 99,34%. Persentase rata – rata jumlah siswa yang siswa yang bekerja sama 91,36% meningkat menjadi 98,64% siswa, persentase rata-rata siswa yang aktif 91,36% meningkat menjadi 98,02% siswa, persentase rata – rata siswa yang menggunakan  ketetapan kata  90,13% meningkat menjadi 994,73% siswa, persentase rata – rata siswa yang mengunakan ketetapan tata bahasa kalimat 82,89% meningkat menjadi 99,34% siswa, persentase rata – rata siswa yang memiliki ketetapan dalam menggunakan tindak tutur 90.13% meningkat menjadi 99,34%  siswa, siswa yang  memiliki ketetapan dalam merespon tindak tutur 90,13% meningkat menjadi 99,34% siswa.

Abstract

ABSTRAK                 Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Eksperimen (quasi eksperimen) yang dilaksanakan di SMP Al Amin Kota Sorong.  Masalah penelitian ini adalah : (1) Seberapa besar hasilbelajar siswa pada pokok bahsan pecahan melalui metode pembelajaran terbalik (Reciprocal Teaching)? (2) Seberapa besar hasil belajar siswa pada pokok bahasan pecahan melalui metode konvensional? (3) Apakah hasil belajar siswa pada pokok bahasan pecahan dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran terbalik (reciprocal teaching) lebih baik dibandingkan dengan menggunakan metode konvensional?. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Al Amin Kota Sorong. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah claster random sampilng. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes hasil belajar dan observasi. Untuk pengolahan data penelitian digunakan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial. Dari hasil pengolahan diperoleh kesimpulan sebagai berikut: (1) Hasil belajar untuk pokok bahasan bilangan pecahan kelas VII SMP Al Amin Kota Sorong yang diajar dengan model  pembelajaran terbalik (Reciprocal Teaching) berada dalam kategori tinggi dengan skor rata-rata 75,79 dari skor ideal 100 dan standar deviasi 5,64; (2) Hasil belajar matematika pokok bahasan bilangan pecahan yang diajar dengan metode konvensional berada dalam kategori rendah dengan skor rata-rata 54,87 dari skor ideal 100 dengan standar deviasi 10,30; (3) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar matematika pokok bahasan bilangan pecahan pada siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran terbalik (reciprocal teaching) lebih baik dibandingkan dengan hasil belajar matematika siswa yang diajar dengan metode pembelajan konvensional

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aimed to find out whether or not the application of Collaborative Strategy Reading is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension achievement on descriptive text. It involved quantitative research method using quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The sample taken from population of the second class of 2015-2016 academic year in SMP Negeri 1 Sorong, it was 24 students for each class. They were class VIII A and class VIII C. The data from students reading comprehension achievement wag gathered through multiple choice test given before and after doing treatment. Data analyzed through descriptive analysis using program of SPSS 20. The data has shown that the application of Collaborative Strategy is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension achievement on descriptive text. It’s seen form the result of the non-probability test used on Mann Whitney test sig. 0.00 < 0.05.

Abstract

The research aimed to describe the cooperative learning script that can improve student mathematic learning out comes.The research was conducted in sorong, the subyek of this research was X grade at SMA Muhammadiyah Al-Amin Sorong, in academic 2013 / 2014. The student consist of 9 males and 20 female. The research was classroom action research (PTK). The procedure and implemantion at the study site was divided into two cycles. In the first cycles performed three times of implementation by using cooperative learning script. The second cycles took three times with the same model.Cooperative learning script is method of learning when the student.According to the research. The research can contlude that the student mathematic learning outcomes at SMA Muhammadiyah Al-Amin Sorong  X grade, can improve student learning outcomes the first cycles mean of 55.34% with the presentase in learning 58.6% and of second cycles  the average was of 81.93% with the presentase in learning 93.1%.

Abstract

 Di Inggris istilah investigasi (penyelidikan) mulai muncul di kancah pembicaraan para guru sejak diterbitkannya laporan Cockcroft pada tahun 1982 yang menyatakan bahwa pengajaran matematika harus melibatkan aktivitas-aktivitas berikut: Eksposisi atau pemaparan guru (exsposition); Diskusi di antara siswa sendiri, ataupun antara siswa dengan guru (discussion); Kerja praktek (practical work); Pemantapan dan latihan pengerjaan soal (consolidation); Pemecahan masalah (problem solving); Penyelidikan (investigation). pemecahan masalah merupakan kegiatan memusat (convergent activity) dimana para siswa harus belajar mencari penyelesaian yang sudah jelas arahnya, sedangkan investigasi adalah suatu kegiatan menyebar (divergent activity) dimana para siswa lebih diberikan kesempatan untuk memikirkan, mengembangkan, dan menyelidiki hal-hal yang menarik yang mengusik rasa keingintahuan mereka

Abstract

The  research aims are (i) Identifying the characteristics of good English teachers in SMAN 3 Sinjai Selatan. (ii) Knowing the characteristics of good English teacher based on the students’ learning style. (iii) Knowing the characteristics of good English teacher based on the students’ personality. This research was done by using a qualitative approach. The data were collected by using two instruments i.e. questionnaires and in depth interview. The results of this study reveal that (i) The characteristics of good English teacher based on the students’ perception in SMAN 3 Sinjai Selatan are categorized into four different categories, namely proficiency, pedagogical (both conceptual and practical), socio-affective and psychological aspect. The last category was the additional category in which age included in and differently from the work of Gi and  Hyo (2006) that only specified three categories, namely proficiency, pedagogical and socio-affective skills. (ii) In general, the characteristics of good English teacher based on the students’ learning style are dominantly in pedagogical aspect. Visual learners want English teacher who can keep the students’ focus and concentration in their learning; auditory learners expect English teacher who can engage the students’ motivation and interest toward learning English; and haptic learners propose the English teacher who concerns on the process rather than the achievement of the students in learning. (iii) The characteristics of good English teacher proposed by high school students based on their personality are dominantly on the teacher’s pedagogical and socio-affective aspects. Only a few ideas of the students that concern on the teacher’s proficiency and psychological aspect.

Abstract

The object of this research is describing the students’ perception and to investigate how the students their perception about their teacher in learning process among second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Al-Amin Sorong. The method of this research was descriptive quantitative, the collect data is analyzed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 17. The survey study was conducted to gather data from respondents. There were   31 students as respondents in this study. The instrument is questionnaire. The students’ perception about their teacher academic performance was in high level category. The students have 2 positive perceptions and one negative perception. Positive perception is in teacher knowledge of subject matter and teacher attitude to work. While negative perception is in the teacher’s skill of teaching the subject matter. Generally, the result of the data analysis and testing hypothesis shows that most of the students gave perception toward their teachers’ performance in teaching and learning process.
