Abstract

Culture shock is one of the main problems for newcomer students. Some factors influencing culture shock include social support, emotional intelligence, and resilience. This study aimed to investigate the direct effect of social support and emotional intelligence on culture shock and indirectly through resilience. 85 newcomer students participated in the sudy filling the Culture Shock Questionnaire developed by Mumford in 1998, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support developed by Zimmet et al in 1988, The Brief Resilience Scale by Smith in 2008, and Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire developed by Victor Dulewicz & Malcolm Higgs in 1999. The data were analyzed by using SmartPLS 3.0. The result of the study showed that social support and emotional intelligence influenced culture shock significantly. Also, the result showed that resilience had a mediation effect on those relationships. The institution or university needs to create a learning environment which facilitate diversity. Thus, guidance and counseling services should be utilized to avoid and overcome the culture shock problem.

Based on the results obtained from this study, expectantly that there will be a role for tertiary institutions to suppress DAS in students by facilitating official counseling services to prevent DAS in students

Abstract

The current study aimed to describe adolescents' social class and self-concept at the "Khatulistiwa Berbagi” learning house. The present study used mixed methods combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data collection was conducted during the even semester in the academic year of 2022/2023, with 22 marginalized adolescents participating. All participants come from a family with a monthly income of up to IDR 1.800.000 (lower social class). Social class data was gathered using Interviews, observation and documentation studies. While data regarding self-concept was collected using the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS). The current research used descriptive statistics and triangulation as data analysis techniques. The study's results found that parents' socio-economic class has a significant relationship with the formation of self-concept images of marginal adolescents. As a whole, the findings of this study revealed that 73.66% of the self-concept of marginalized adolescents is in the highly negative category. A negative self-concept is associated with the inability to control one's emotions and tends to have deviant behavior. Collaborative activities between parents, teachers, counselors, psychologists, and social welfare institutions are recommended to achieve the self-concept developmental milestone of marginalized adolescents.

Abstract

Religious moderation is becoming a prevalent focus to achieve social harmony and peace, preventing extremism, intolerance, and acts of violence. The current study aims to investigate the psychometric properties of an instrument measuring students' religious moderation attitudes. The research method used is the quantitative construction of measuring instruments. The scale development indicator uses the four dimensions of religious moderation developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion. The scale development procedure involved 10 experts consisting of academics and employees of the Metro City Ministry of Religion. 135 Respondents for the instrument trials were drawn using a random sampling technique, taking into account students of IAIN Metro in semesters 3, 5, and 7 who were still active. The results show that based on the consistency value of experts, which is known through the interquartile range (Q), there are 60 items out of 78 declared significant. The content validation category based on Aiken's V count is 0.693, which is interpreted as a moderate category. The items have been validated by experts and fulfilled the discriminatory power criteria according to the psychometric analysis prerequisites. Based on the validity test results, using the baseline correlation on 60 items, 36 items fulfilled the validity level. Reliability testing shows a coefficient of 0.800 (reliable) means that this scale is consistent. These findings are expected to benefit the measurement of students' religious moderation attitudes and serve as a need assessment in the establishment of regulations and policies in higher education.

Abstract

The current study aims to determine the factors that cause women to become lesbians and Islamic counseling guidance methods for lesbians. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological study approach. A total of four lesbians, two butch and two femme lesbians, voluntarily participated in this study at Rejang Lebong in 2021. The data were collected through in-depth interviews. The research results revealed that there are several factors that cause women to have homosexual orientation; biological factors, life trauma, environmental support, lack of religious knowledge and lack of attention from parents. Analyzed using the self-disclosure theory, the results showed that femme lesbians tended to be shy and introverted, so the approach was taken individually and personally. In contrast, butch-labeled lesbians are more open so that they can be done in groups. The decision to become a lesbian is not caused by a single factor but a combination. However, only femme-labeled lesbians are caused by a life trauma. This research only focuses on the causes of being a lesbian and appropriate Islamic counseling guidance approach techniques based on the type of lesbian. This study did not look at the final product after counseling was carried out. It is recommended for future studies to investigate concrete steps of Islamic counseling guidance for lesbians.

This study used a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test designs. The population in this study was 50 child prisoners, then 8 juvenile prisoners selected using purposive sampling techniques. The research instrument is the profile adversity quotient modification scale which has a high level of reliability and validity. The data analysis used is the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the adversity quotient of juvenile prisoners increased after creative biblio-counseling treatment. Therefore, based on the findings of this study, counselors at LPKA can apply creative biblio-counseling using books, videos, and films to improve the adversity quotient of juvenile prisoners and as a basis for supporting adolescent development tasks.

Abstract

The Arabic language is a compulsory course for all students of IAIN Bukittinggi. This lesson requires high learning motivation to achieve excellent learning outcomes. This research focused on the influences of gender differences on Arabic language course learning motivation. This research determined the Arabic course learning motivation differences based on gender among students in the Islamic Education (PAI) study program at the IAIN Bukittinggi. The researchers applied a quantitative comparative approach. The population comprises students in the Islamic Education study program at the IAIN Bukittinggi who are in the third semester. The participants consisted of 199 students. The researchers applied total sampling. The instrument used in this study was the learning motivation scale. The researchers analyzed the data with a hypothetical mean formula, while the hypothesis test was with the Analysis of Variance, ANOVA. The results showed that the male Arabic learning motivation was high, with a mean score of 130.3, while the female Arabic learning motivation was 126.4. The hypothesis test found a significant value of 0.277 lower than 0.5. The results indicated a significant difference between male and female Arabic language learning motivations. However, when looking at the overall average scores, the motivation of male students to learn Arabic is higher than female students. Based on the results of this study, it suggested that counselors provide Guidance and Counseling services, primarily focusing on indicators of self-reliance in learning Arabic. It is expected that with guidance and counseling services, students can enhance their motivation to learn Arabic, particularly in terms of self-reliance in learning.
