<![CDATA[This paper focuses on maping hadiths studies which has been done by orientalists according to Harald Motzki. So far, the maping is always seen based on an assuption which results three sections namely sceptic, non-sceptic, and middle ground. Unlike prior studies, Motzki tries to divide hadiths studies in the West based on the method they use Based on it, it is obtained a conclusion that hadiths studies in the West are not stagnant and similiar. On the contrary, it undergoes a progress time by the time. Based on the method employed to examine the authenticity of hadiths. The study of hadith in the West can be classified into four divisions. First, is matan which was introduced by Ignaz Goldziher, Josep Schacht, and Marston Speight. Second, is dating based on collections of hadis books with Josep Schacht as a initiator. Third, is dating by isnad which was started by Josep Schacht and Juynboll. Fourth, is isnad-cum-matan which was embarked by Harald Motzki.]]>

<![CDATA[Although the function of Sunnah is as a second source of Islamic teachings. however, it has been continously debated and even rejected by certain group of people known as inkarusunnah group. The ideology developed in the late of the second century Hijriyah yet it muffled by Imam Shafie until the greatly long period. Unfortunately, during the shift of 19th to 20th centuries, this idea has reemerged and grown up to the present. This article analyzes the development of the ideology using the content analysis method from the various literatures related to the history of InkarSunnah Ideology and movement. This research found the modern InkarSunnah concept is a continuity of the previous movement. According to this group, the rejection of Sunnah due to the fact that Qur?an has cover all matters. In fact, this group lack of understanding on it's real position and function as the second source of Islamic teaching. Whereas, later, they deny it's validity, though it was narrated by a truthful narrators including the companions.]]>

<![CDATA[Disputes among hadiths are a long lasting issue both for Muslims and outsiders who try to mislead the traditionas and create catastrophe in the community.Therefore,it is essential to understad the degree of a hadith more comprehensively, especially in hadiths learning processes. This research is a respond toward the critique of prophetic traditions and its urgency in learning. In this research , I will explore the matan of a hadith on the Prophet David fasting respectively. This research is a library research based on the textuals matan criticism found in the Islamic historical heritages. The results of this study are notes on how the application of matan criticism that occurred in the pre and post-codification periods as well as the validity method of matan critiques which free from shaz and ?Illat. Also some notes on the urgency of learning the method of matan criticism.]]>

<![CDATA[This paper discusses the criticism conveyed by Rahman on the understanding of hadith that has been developed in the midst of Islamic societies regarding the hadith about the conquest of Constantinople, where so far the hadith about the conquest of Constantinople is believed to be the main driver of Islamic commanders to conquer Constantinople. But Fazlur Rahman denied it by stating that the hadith was a hadith that emerge during the period of defamation which was used by certain groups to support their ambitions. To support his suspicion, Rahman offers a methodology called the theory of historicity, where each hadith must be seen first in terms of the history that follows it. The results obtained from the hadith about the conquest caused a shift in understanding that had been believed by Muslims that the conquest of Constantinople was inspired by the hadith that was revealed by the Prophet Muhammad.]]>

<![CDATA[The trend of interpretations on Islamic texts from the Qur?an and hadiths has been increasing at the present time. but these understandings leading up to create polemics in the community. The case triggered by some religious circles who at the end explained religious sources with some limitations, either caused by insufficient understandings or misleadings in interpreting the refferences. This paper aims to reveal the appropriate method of understanding hadiths which is closer to the intention of the Speaker, due to the fact that there has been a very long time interval between us - as recipients of the information - with the owner of the text. The research also investigates the language used and the background situations of the hadiths. Therefore, an apppropriate methodological perspective is pivotal to understand the hadiths more comprehensively. This paper is a library research advantaging primarily from the book of fiqh al-Hadith using content analyses approach. The aim is to find out appropriate methods or formulas in understanding the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad to bring the prophetic messages for bettter understandings and practices.]]>
