Abstract

Increasing rice production through area expansion is very difficult to do in Gunungkidul Regency. Increasing the rice cropping index is an alternative option in increasing rice production, supported by supplementary irrigation. This study aimed to determine the increase in the rice cropping index from 1 to 2 by utilizing supplementary irrigation from the Oyo River Dam. The research was conducted at Sambirejo, Watusigar Village, Ngawen Sub-district, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta during the second planting season in 2019. During planting time, rainfall was observed to determine irrigation time. In conditions without rain, the irrigation interval was not more than 5 days. The randomized completely block design (RCBD) was used to determine the suitability variety of Inpari 19, Inpari 24, Inpari 30, Inpari 42 and Sidenuk in the conditions of the second planting season, complete with a package of rice production technology components. The data collected includes rainfall, harvest age and rice productivity. Farmers' perceptions was explored to determine acceptance of technology components. The results showed that supplementary irrigation from the Oyo River Dam was sufficient to increase the rice planting index in the second planting season. Variety of Inpari 24, Inpari 19 and Inpari 30 had high productivity, with Inpari 19 being prospectively developed for rice cultivation in the second planting season. Most farmers receive a package of technology components, but were constrained by capital for irrigation.

Abstract

Physicochemical properties are one of the parameters of honey quality that impacts the sales of honey as well as the economy condition of the society in Ciwidey and Bogor. The physicochemical properties of honey are significantly influenced by the origin of the honey, including its geographical location and vegetation. This study aims to determine the physicochemical properties between multiflora honey from Ciwidey and Bogor with different source of nectar where Ciwidey honey is dominated by calliandra nectar while Bogor honey is dominated by kapok nectar. Data were analyzed with descriptive and quantitative method using independent t test for data with normal distribution (water content and reducing sugar content). Data that were not normally distributed (color analysis and acidity value) were tested non-parametrically with the Mann Whitney-U. The results showed that Bogor honey has the better physicochemical properties and meets Indonesian National Standard (Standar Nasional Indonesia, SNI) 8664:2018, with a water content of 15.15% w/w, L* values of 35.26, a* value of 28.66, b* value of 59.46, c* value of 66.01, h* value of 64.27°, reducing sugar content of 78.78% and acidity value of 35.56 mL NaOH kg-1. Phytochemical screening showed positive results on alkaloid, flavonoid, phenol and tannin, and the results of GC-MS analysis showed three significant compounds which are hydroxymethylfurfural of 48.26%, levoglucosan of 13.58% and ammonium carbamate of 9.18%.

Abstract

Research activity is a form of expert service by the Research Group (RG) of "Agricultural Development Based on Local Soil-Land Characteristics" to its partner of the Wonoagung Wonogiri Organic Agriculture Association (Perkumpulan Pertanian Organik Wonoagung Wonogiri, PPOWW). The provision of suitable land for plant growth by partner is a required aspect in the development of certain commodities. Expert services by the RG is involving the implementation of land suitability evaluation based on agroclimatic conditions. The objective of the activity is to provide data and information on land suitability levels for certain commodities based on climatic conditions. The area which became the object of this research activity is where the PPOWW partner is located; namely Sidoharjo Sub-district, Wonogiri Regency. The secondary data was obtained from relevant sources in the form of annual rainfall (mm year-1), annual average air temperature (°C) and annual average humidity (%). The method of agroclimate suitability evaluation was carried out by following the procedure from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), by matching climatic conditions with plant growth requirements. Plant commodities that were evaluated for their suitability were durian, salak, mangosteen, apples and avocado. The results showed that durian is a suitable commodity (S1) with climatic conditions in Sidoharjo Sub-district. Salak and avocado are quite suitable commodities (S2). Meanwhile, mangosteen is a commodity which is moderately suitable (S3); whereas apple is a commodity that is not suitable (N). Durian, salak and avocado are commodities which have the potential to be developed by PPOWW in Sidoharjo Sub-district. The next stage of the evaluation implementation requires data and information on the suitability of soil conditions.

The increased knowledge is shown from the increase in the pre-test and post-test scores 63 increased to 80,7, while the increase in motivation is shown by changes in the attitude of farmers who are increasingly open to environmentally friendly animal husbandry systems through the treatment of livestock manure. The effects of continuation from the IbM implementation, beef cattle farm and food crops would be environment friendly and zero waste.
