Abstract

Increasing rice production through area expansion is very difficult to do in Gunungkidul Regency. Increasing the rice cropping index is an alternative option in increasing rice production, supported by supplementary irrigation. This study aimed to determine the increase in the rice cropping index from 1 to 2 by utilizing supplementary irrigation from the Oyo River Dam. The research was conducted at Sambirejo, Watusigar Village, Ngawen Sub-district, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta during the second planting season in 2019. During planting time, rainfall was observed to determine irrigation time. In conditions without rain, the irrigation interval was not more than 5 days. The randomized completely block design (RCBD) was used to determine the suitability variety of Inpari 19, Inpari 24, Inpari 30, Inpari 42 and Sidenuk in the conditions of the second planting season, complete with a package of rice production technology components. The data collected includes rainfall, harvest age and rice productivity. Farmers' perceptions was explored to determine acceptance of technology components. The results showed that supplementary irrigation from the Oyo River Dam was sufficient to increase the rice planting index in the second planting season. Variety of Inpari 24, Inpari 19 and Inpari 30 had high productivity, with Inpari 19 being prospectively developed for rice cultivation in the second planting season. Most farmers receive a package of technology components, but were constrained by capital for irrigation.

Abstract

Physicochemical properties are one of the parameters of honey quality that impacts the sales of honey as well as the economy condition of the society in Ciwidey and Bogor. The physicochemical properties of honey are significantly influenced by the origin of the honey, including its geographical location and vegetation. This study aims to determine the physicochemical properties between multiflora honey from Ciwidey and Bogor with different source of nectar where Ciwidey honey is dominated by calliandra nectar while Bogor honey is dominated by kapok nectar. Data were analyzed with descriptive and quantitative method using independent t test for data with normal distribution (water content and reducing sugar content). Data that were not normally distributed (color analysis and acidity value) were tested non-parametrically with the Mann Whitney-U. The results showed that Bogor honey has the better physicochemical properties and meets Indonesian National Standard (Standar Nasional Indonesia, SNI) 8664:2018, with a water content of 15.15% w/w, L* values of 35.26, a* value of 28.66, b* value of 59.46, c* value of 66.01, h* value of 64.27°, reducing sugar content of 78.78% and acidity value of 35.56 mL NaOH kg-1. Phytochemical screening showed positive results on alkaloid, flavonoid, phenol and tannin, and the results of GC-MS analysis showed three significant compounds which are hydroxymethylfurfural of 48.26%, levoglucosan of 13.58% and ammonium carbamate of 9.18%.

Abstract

Research activity is a form of expert service by the Research Group (RG) of "Agricultural Development Based on Local Soil-Land Characteristics" to its partner of the Wonoagung Wonogiri Organic Agriculture Association (Perkumpulan Pertanian Organik Wonoagung Wonogiri, PPOWW). The provision of suitable land for plant growth by partner is a required aspect in the development of certain commodities. Expert services by the RG is involving the implementation of land suitability evaluation based on agroclimatic conditions. The objective of the activity is to provide data and information on land suitability levels for certain commodities based on climatic conditions. The area which became the object of this research activity is where the PPOWW partner is located; namely Sidoharjo Sub-district, Wonogiri Regency. The secondary data was obtained from relevant sources in the form of annual rainfall (mm year-1), annual average air temperature (°C) and annual average humidity (%). The method of agroclimate suitability evaluation was carried out by following the procedure from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), by matching climatic conditions with plant growth requirements. Plant commodities that were evaluated for their suitability were durian, salak, mangosteen, apples and avocado. The results showed that durian is a suitable commodity (S1) with climatic conditions in Sidoharjo Sub-district. Salak and avocado are quite suitable commodities (S2). Meanwhile, mangosteen is a commodity which is moderately suitable (S3); whereas apple is a commodity that is not suitable (N). Durian, salak and avocado are commodities which have the potential to be developed by PPOWW in Sidoharjo Sub-district. The next stage of the evaluation implementation requires data and information on the suitability of soil conditions.

Abstract

Freshwater fish farming is one of the efforts made by the people of Sindumartani Village, Ngemplak Sub-district, Sleman Regency. The battle for water and land has made most people cultivate freshwater fish, especially tilapia. This makes fish products abundant. This condition is the initiative of the Mina Mandiri Women Farmer Group to process the fish production into several processed fish products such as fish chips and shredded fish. One of the obstacles faced in the effort to develop this processing business is that the group's performance has not been optimal due to a lack of knowledge about group business interests and how to create a solid group with good performance. This community service is carried out in order to solve these problems by conducting group dynamics training both in theory and practice. The group dynamics training that was carried out made women members of the Mina Mandiri Women Farmer Group understand the importance of group business, the factors that are the strengths and weaknesses of groups and working in groups (teamwork). The understanding and skills obtained from community service activities increase the group's performance. This can be seen from the increasing number of members who attend monthly meetings, the increasing frequency of production activities, the increasing types of processed fish products and the wider the marketing area.

To carry out the community service, a lecturer has many opportunities to obtain funds from various funding bodies. This article discusses the community service activity that was done by implementing a synergy between a group of lecturers and students who are the members of the Food Science Technology Student Association (HIMAGHITA) Universitas Sebelas Maret in the Village of Koripan, Matesih Sub-district, Karanganyar Regency. The purpose of the community service activity is to introduce the processing technology of purple sweet potato and corn and to increase the knowledge of food industry management in the group of women farmers in the region. The community service activity included the introduction of flour-making technology, processing technology of purple sweet potato cookies and corn brownies. Based on the results of monitoring and evaluation, it can be concluded that the synergy of lecturers and students can effectively support the community service activity and the introduction of purple sweet potato and corn processing technology can be well-carried out. Domestic beef supply is fulfilled by farmers from Kenteng Village, Nogosari Sub-district, Boyolali Regency. Farmers in Kenteng Village develop beef cattle business by forming a beef cattle farmers' groups Sumber Makmur, Taruban Mulyo and Ngudi Mulyo. The problem faced by farmers in Kenteng Village is that the business of beef cattle fattening is not optimal. The purpose of this activity is to empower beef cattle farmers who are members of the livestock farmer groups in Kenteng Village. The method of taking location and respondent in this activity is purposive sampling. This activity methods include Focus Group Discussion (FGD), extension and training activities through the preparation of feed rations and fermented rice straw. The result of this activity is the empowerment of farmers in the business of beef cattle fattening through the implementation of counseling and training for the preparation of ration formulations and fermented straw making in Kenteng Village, which is seen as being more empowered because the farmers' knowledge increases and the feed tested on livestock can be consumed properly so that livestock performance increases. The conclusion of this activity is that farmers become more empowered due to increased farmer knowledge and the feed tested on livestock can be consumed properly, thereby increasing livestock performance.
