Students can become one of the human resources that can be used to provide education to the community or their group regarding the control and handling of past accidents. Methods: The method used is through education and training which includes safety riding and first aid. Extension activities were carried out online by using the zoom while training activities were carried out offline at SMA N 2 Lamongan. The training materials provided to students include basic life support, and splints, and ambulation. The training is carried out using lectures, demonstrations - simulations, and discussions. Media for delivering technology is also prepared, namely in the form of materials and props. Results: The students' knowledge of first aid before the activity was less than 23 people (69.69%), enough for 8 people (24.24%), and good for 2 people (6.06%). While the knowledge after the activity is less than 1 person (3.03%), only 16 people (48.48%) and good 16 people (48.48%). The results of the pre-test and post-test showed an increase in students' knowledge about first aid. Conclusion: Efforts to establish a safe community can be done by involving students as one of the components of society which is expected to become agents of change in controlling and handling traffic accidents. Keywords: safety riding, safe community, promotive, accident first aid

Abstract

Introduction: Decreased muscle mass in the elderly often occurs due to the aging process. Identification of muscle mass needs to be done to optimize the health status of the elderly. So, this article will identify muscle mass in the elderly. Methods: Community service was carried out to 54 elderly people in a nursing home. For the elderly, health checks are carried out including body composition measurements, especially muscle mass, as well as nutrition education and counseling. The inclusion criteria for the elderly who take part in the activity include (1) healthy and able to stand; (2) fully aware; (3) not bed rest; (4) able to communicate and cooperative. The data presented include age, length of stay, body mass index, and body composition, namely muscle mass. Results: About three-quarters of the elderly are women and have lived in a nursing home for approximately 3 years. The average nutritional status of the elderly is normal (21.6 ± 4.5 kg/m2). As many as 96.3% of the elderly have a low muscle mass index and 53.7% of the elderly have a high fat mass. The muscle mass of older men was higher than that of women (26.2 ± 2.8 vs 21.9 ± 1.9). Conclusion: Almost all the elderly has low muscle mass due to the physiological aging process and decreased activity of the elderly in using muscles. . Elderly women were observed to have lower muscle mass index than that of men. Identification of muscle mass strength is also needed to find out more about sarcopenia in the elderly.

Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 continues to be a global problem. Surabaya is among the cities hit by COVID-19. Lack of information and awareness of COVID-19 and its vaccination in teenagers might have impacted their preventative behavior and belief in COVID-19 vaccination. This study examined differences in high school students' understanding of COVID-19 and its vaccination before and after the intervention. Methods: The quasi-experimental design was utilized in this study, which took place between September and December of 2021. PowerPoint materials (webinar), videos, and pocketbooks about COVID-19 and its vaccination were the educational community initiatives. Students in grades 10-12 at SMA 4 Muhammadiyah Surabaya, MA Mamba'ul Hisan Gresik, and SMA Negeri 1 Sidoarjo participated in the study, and 160 students completed the pre-test and post-test. The study variables were knowledge, student characteristics (gender, age, class, and school origin), and parental characteristics (age, education, and occupation). The paired t-test was used to evaluate the univariable and bivariable data. Results: With an average pre-test value of 7.09 and a post-test value of 7.94, there was a difference of high school students' understanding of COVID-19 before and after the intervention (p < 0.001). Furthermore, there was also a difference of knowledge about COVID-19 vaccination (p < 0.001), with an average pre-test value of 5.87 and a post-test value of 7.03. Conclusion: There are considerable differences in students' knowledge of COVID-19 disease and its vaccination before and after the intervention. In order to prevent COVID-19, community service activities involving the distribution of information (webinars), videos, and pocketbooks could help them gain more knowledge.

Abstract

Introduction: Convalescent plasma transfusion therapy remains as one of the therapies recommended by the Ministry of Health for Covid-19 patients in Indonesia. However, in its practice, this therapy is greatly constrained by the availability of plasma donors at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the few survivors who are willing to donate their blood plasma. The aims of the community service activity were to educate, organize, and facilitate the survivors to do screening and donate their plasma. Methods: The activities were conducted in June until December 2021, at Indrapura Field Hospital (RSLI) Surabaya. A total 925 participants (641 male and 309 female) were all Covid-19 patients from RSLI Surabaya. The demographic data were collected and organized as a database. The survivor's online communication group (16 WhatsApp groups) were created, to provide information and education about Covid-19 and the importance of plasma donation to the patients and survivors. Results: The three largest groups by age were 26-35 (30.84%), 46-55 (21.26%), and 36-45 (19.47%) years old. The 3 largest groups by city of origin were Surabaya (62.42%), Sidoarjo (16.53%), and Gresik (8.63%). About 77.89% of participants have their understanding in the convalescent plasma for Covid-19. About 43.79% of them were willing to become donors after 14-day-recovery, and have been registered in the web application of donors. The 102 survivors were also involved in free plasma screening with PMI Surabaya. Total 88 survivors who have passed the screening have given their plasma as convalescent donors. Conclusion: Organizing and educating Covid-19 survivors were exceptionally required to encourage them to become a plasma donor. The collected survivor data must be stored and managed properly to facilitate everything related to the blood plasma. The survivors are suggested to be screened 14 days after being declared healthy, to maintain the availability of blood plasma at PMI for Covid-19 patients who necessitate the convalescent plasma therapy.
