Abstract

Students' difficulty in understanding English language as a subject usually leads to poor learning outcomes. The problem is, however, observed to be getting worse due to the unavailability of suitable learning media for educators and students. This research was, therefore, conducted to develop an English for Beginner pocketbook media to improve student learning outcomes. Meanwhile, pocketbook media is an alternative packaging of information through the use of user efficiency elements. This research was developed based on the Borg & Gall model with the data collected using questionnaires, tests, and documentation and analyzed through Independent Sample T-test. The results showed the sig. (2-tailed) < sig. level (0,000 < 0.05), therefore, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected. It was discovered that average students learning outcomes increased to 83,4 and learning completeness by 83.33% after receiving the treatment in the form of the English for Beginner pocketbook media. This shows this material is feasible to be implemented as a learning medium due to its effectiveness in improving the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students of MI Masaran 1 Trenggalek.

The development model is carried out using the concept of development research according to Borg and Gall's 4D model. The sample of this study is using simple random sampling. Product trials were carried out in two class groups, namely IIIA as the experimental class and III B as the control class. The method of obtaining data used questionnaires, tests, and documentation. Then, the early step analysis of the data used the homogeneity and normality test. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test. The product validation analysis results based on the material aspects state that the fraction textbooks with an ethnomathematics approach are suitable to use with a percentage of 75.8% and 75.8% from the material aspect. Meanwhile, response to textbook products in the attractive category obtained a percentage of 89%.

Abstract

The vulnerability of the moral crisis that occurs in millennial children has led to numerous irregularities such as rape, taurine, extortion, bullying and other negative forms of violence. These changes occur due to globalization and the increasing development of technology, thereby leading to deviant behaviours amongst children. Therefore, character education based on Ethno pedagogy in Islamic basic education institutions is important due to its ability to reduce the impact of negative behaviours on primary-age children. The purpose of this research is to describe the meaning of Ethno pedagogy of MIN 1 Sambas in applying local cultural values. This research uses a naturalistic phenomenology approach through participant observation, interview, and documentation techniques with primary data obtained from students, teachers, parents, and community leaders. The results showed the importance of integrating the self-development program of students based on Ethno pedagogy of Melayu Sambas, familiar with fostering character education in creating local cultures such as the Sambas Malay language. Furthermore, ethnology tends to foster a religious character in the millennial generation, namely religious character, such as the attitudes and behaviour of priests and taqwa applied in everyday life.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the use of language by teachers and students in bilingual classroom learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) I Ciputat, South Tangerang. This research emerged based on the recent rise in the number of bilingual classes, such as Indonesian, English, and Arabic, which led to the use of learning activities such as code-switching. Based on the analysis, the authors concluded that generally, teachers use two or more languages consisting of Indonesian, foreign (English and Arabic), and regional languages. The use of Indonesian dominates in learning in accordance with the national curriculum, while the use of English dominates in subjects in line with the Cambridge Curriculum. Therefore, the use of foreign languages in these two learning activities aims to familiarize students with the ability to hear and speak foreign languages. These activities tend to improve student’s linguistics competence.

In implementing the TGT model steps, ice-breaking was presented before learning and on the sidelines of games and tournaments not to get bored. The results showed that in the pre-cycle, the student's learning motivation reached 47%. Then, in the first cycle, the student’s learning motivation increased to 68%, while in the second cycle, it reached 94%. Therefore, in the second cycle, the motivation had reached the specified criteria of ≥75%, indicating that the children have high learning motivation.
