Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of online and offline simulation media. Especially during the transition period from the new normal, hybrid learning and back to the new normal. Methodology: The research design used was quasi-experimental. The study sample was taken using a random sampling technique. The data collection techniques used are observation and tests. Observation is carried out to find out more about the subject of research. A trial is conducted to determine the condition of students before and after receiving treatment. There are two test instruments used, namely pretest and posttest. The treatment given to the control class is learning using Science KIT, and the experimental class will use PhET Simulation. The results of the study will be processed using SPSS. Main Findings: PhET media and science KIT based on the N-gain test proved to increase on average after treatment. In the control class, the gain value was 0.7, while the gain value was 0.8 in the experimental class. According to the criteria, both classes are in the high category. but in contrast to the percentage of effectiveness, the use of PhET is effective with a rate of 86%, while KIT science is quite practical with a ratio of 71%. Novelty/Originality of this study: PhET simulation media and science KIT can explain abstract material to improve cognitive understanding. The use of this simulation media can be adjusted to learning conditions. if offline, use KIT, and if online, use PhET.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The study investigated secondary school students’ assessment of science laboratory accident status and preventive measures in the Awka Education Zone. Two research questions guided the study, and one hypothesis was tested at a .05 significance level. Methodology: The study used the descriptive survey research design. A sample of 156 public and 40 private secondary school students was used. A checklist and a questionnaire were used to collect data. The questionnaire was validated, and a Cronbach Alpha reliability test gave a coefficient of 0.86. The collected data was used to analyze mean, standard deviation, percentage, and t-tests. Main Findings: The results revealed that science laboratory accidents do not occur in secondary schools in Awka Education Zone, irrespective of school type. The study also observed no significant difference in the preventive measures against science laboratory accidents adopted by private and public secondary school students in the zone. Novelty/Originality of this study: There is limited literature in the present study’s area seeking to assess the laboratory accident status in secondary schools and the measures the students take to avert these accidents. Thus, the present study’s findings would provide background information on laboratory activities and accidents in the area of the research and preventive measures to be deployed.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study is how to find out the process of developing learning devices using the PBL model with character enrichment in the substance material and its characteristics which were developed according to experts. Methodology: The research design used by researchers is a quantitative research type of quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group design. It is done to investigate causal hypotheses about causation that can be manipulated by comparing one or more experimental groups that are treated with one comparison group that is not treated. Main Findings: Based on the analysis of the data and the discussion above, it can be concluded that the students' ability in science subjects on the substance and its characteristics is in the good category. This shows that the application of problem-based learning models can improve students' thinking skills. This is reinforced by testing the hypothesis through the independent sample t-test that there is a significant difference between before being given treatment and after being given treatment Novelty/Originality of this study: Following the era of the industrial revolution 5.0, character-based learning must be developed. Therefore, this research produces science learning tools with problem-based learning in the material and its characteristics.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to determine student responses to project-based learning in chemistry courses. Methodology: This research used mixed methods with a sequential explanatory design. The samples involved in this research were 90 students from the chemistry study program. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. The instrument used to collect quantitative data was a questionnaire sheet distributed to students to measure responses, while the instrument to collect qualitative data was interviews conducted with chemistry students. Data analysis was carried out to process quantitative data based on descriptive statistics, and qualitative data was analyzed based on Miles and Huberman's theory and supported by documentation studies. Main Findings: The results obtained from this research are that chemistry students' responses to project-based learning are classified as good. The importance of the Project Based Learning Model (PjBL) lies in its ability to inspire active involvement in solving real problems, thus facilitating the development of critical and analytical thinking skills. Novelty/Originality of this study: The latest research is that the research sample involved was from the chemistry education study program to measure the response to project-based learning. This research is limited by only measuring responses, so researchers do not know the truth of the project-based learning process. So, recommendations that can be given in further research are to directly implement the project-based learning process to strengthen the questionnaire results in this research.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to describe the response of science subject teachers to the assessment of students' process skills portfolios. Methodology: The research method used in this research is mixed, namely a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The research design chosen was a sequential explanatory design. This design was selected because quantitative research was carried out first and followed by qualitative methods. This design ensures that the quantitative data obtained is strengthened with qualitative data. Quantitative data analysis techniques are carried out using descriptive statistics. Meanwhile, qualitative data was analyzed based on Miles and Huberman's theory. The instrument used to collect quantitative data is a questionnaire sheet to measure teacher responses in portfolio assessment. Meanwhile, qualitative data was obtained from interviews and documentation studies on relevant problems. The population of this research is schools in Jambi Luar Kota District. The research sample is science subject teachers. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Main Findings: The results obtained are the teacher's response in State Junior High School 1 Muaro Jambi superior to State Junior High School 1 Atap Pematang Jering. Novelty/Originality of this study: The urgency of this research is seen from the importance of assessment in learning activities, which is a tool for measuring student abilities and evaluating the education system. The background of this research is limited by the sample involved being only science subject teachers, and the population chosen is the Jambi Luar Kota sub-district.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to evaluate teachers' responses to two learning models, namely problem-based learning and scaffolding, in the context of science subjects at Junior High School Negeri Satu Atap Pematang Jering. Methodology: The methodology used was descriptive quantitative research with a population of teachers in the school. The research sample consisted of 16 teachers selected by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Main Findings: The main finding of this study shows that most teachers (75%) in Junior High School Negeri Satu Atap Pematang Jering responded positively to the use of problem-based learning and scaffolding models in science learning. These results indicate that both learning models effectively improve the quality of teaching and students' understanding of science materials. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in its specific focus on analyzing teachers' responses to problem-based learning and scaffolding models. This research contributes to the existing literature in this field by providing a deeper understanding of how these two learning models can be applied in science learning in secondary schools. The results of this study can serve as a guideline for teachers and schools in selecting and implementing effective learning strategies to improve teacher competence and student learning outcomes in science subjects.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The primary objective of this research was to comprehensively examine the teachers' reactions and responses towards the implementation of Adat Bersendi Syara' and Syara' Bersendi Kitabullah values within the context of science subjects. Methodology: This study employs a descriptive quantitative research approach, targeting the entire teacher population of State Junior High School 1 Muaro Jambi, comprising 36 teachers. Using purposive sampling, 19 teachers were selected as the research sample. The research utilized a non-test instrument, namely a questionnaire, to gauge teacher responses. Data analysis was carried out through descriptive statistical tests. Main Findings: Based on the research, it is evident that teachers at State Junior High School 1 Muaro Jambi exhibited a highly favorable response, 52.6%. These findings indicate a positive reception among teachers regarding integrating Adat Bersendi Syara' and Syara' Bersendi Kitabullah values into the junior high school science curriculum. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research is that by focusing on integrating culture and religious values, this research can accommodate the diversity of cultures and beliefs in the school environment. This can create an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and can identify themselves in the context of learning. Therefore, this research will complement previous studies.
