Abstract

Football (soccer) is a major sport among the Ghanaian population, followed by Boxing and other emerging sports like Handball, Indoor Volleyball, Swimming, Field Hockey, Basketball, Badminton, and Arm Wrestling, among others. To the Ghanaian community, ‘sports is football,’ and this has attracted much attention and interest among the youth in an attempt to develop their talent and skills. With such an interest and passion among the Ghanaian youth, it is an expectation and dire hope to be featured in football competitions. This often is not the case, as there is a perceived intention of ‘Pay-to-Play’ to participate in national football competitions in Ghana. This study explored the knowledge and perception of ‘Pay-to-Play’ in football among Sports Journalists in Accra, Kumasi, and Ho. The study adopted qualitative methods with a semi-structured open-ended question sent to the respondents via Email and WhatsApp. A purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the respondents, and the snowball technique aided the researchers in reaching other Sports Journalists. The study identified the existence of ‘Pay-to-Play’ in football in Ghana. This has resulted in the loss of interest in football consumption among the youth, particularly in the Ghana Premier League, and has led to less football development in Ghana.

Abstract

The government has created an independent curriculum as a learning recovery, but not all schools implement it well. Therefore, an evaluation is needed, especially regarding the management of learning activities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of the independent curriculum model in physical education subjects at State Vocational Schools in Tasikmalaya City. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. In this study, data were collected through triangulation techniques consisting of observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. This study involved the vice principal for curriculum, four physical education teachers, and four students. They were selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis involved preparation, inference, and verification. The results showed that the context evaluation of goals and objectives indicators and strength indicators had been fulfilled. However, weakness indicators related to teacher consistency in implementing learning still exist. Input evaluation on indicators of curriculum structure, PE teacher competence, teaching materials, and students have been fulfilled and run well. However, input evaluation on indicators of infrastructure availability still needs to support the continuity of PE learning. Process evaluation on indicators of implementation and implementation of assessments has gone well, but product evaluation on indicators of program achievement still needs to be improved. Implementing CIPP managerial evaluation is carried out by ensuring that the evaluation is carried out systematically, periodically, and comprehensively. Evaluation results are used as the basis for decision-making related to the improvement and development of the Physical Education curriculum. Teachers and school management play an active role in ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of the evaluation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the management policy of standardizing elementary school physical education learning infrastructure in 66 schools in 5 sub-districts of Se-Kota Langsa. This study aims to explore, find, and provide policy recommendations for standardizing infrastructure facilities to support effective learning. The implication is that if every elementary school has adequate infrastructure, it will impact the quality of learning. This approach uses qualitative policy research design. The study subjects were 66 elementary school principals, two from the education office, and local government. Data collection by observation, documentation, interviews, and literature studies. Data analysis uses data collection, data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and data validity by triangulation to find the validity of research data. The results of research from 66 elementary schools in Langsa City showed that only five schools met the standards, 61 schools did not meet the requirements, and the category was not feasible for infrastructure in terms of at least four aspects, namely the width of the infrastructure sector, building area, classrooms, and installations according to Permendiknas No. 24 of 2007 concerning learning infrastructure standards at the elementary level. From these four aspects, at least 61 schools located in narrow areas are not feasible to build standardized classrooms and sports infrastructure, at least multipurpose courts that can play badminton, volleyball, and mini soccer courts to support the learning activities of elementary school students. In contrast, five schools meet minimum standards and are fair. The impact of inadequate physical education infrastructure in 61 primary schools has been modified so that students are ineffective in learning.

Abstract

The ongoing evolution of technology has had both positive and negative effects on modern society. On the positive side, it has significantly improved the ease with which various activities can be performed. However, it has also had a negative impact by reducing physical activity. This reduction in physical activity, in turn, increases the risk of chronic diseases that contribute to global mortality rates. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of machine learning in predicting the physical activity levels of adolescents. The study utilizes data from accelerometers, specifically the ActiGraph GT3X. The research methodology employs a semi-supervised machine learning approach, using the support vector machine and decision tree algorithms to make these predictions. The sample comprises 61 adolescents (males = 17, female = 44), including high school students and university students aged 18-21, from the West Java region. The results from the machine learning model using the decision tree algorithm indicated a model accuracy of 97.50% in predicting physical activity levels. In contrast, the accuracy obtained from the performance analysis using the confusion matrix for the support vector machine model was 92.5%. Based on these accuracy levels, the decision tree algorithm outperforms the support vector machine algorithm's accuracy. Further analyses involving different models are necessary to determine which algorithm offers the highest level of accuracy.
