Focus and Scope Animal Breeding and Genetics It covers a wide range of applied animal breeding, genetic evaluation technology, quantitative and molecular genetics, evolution as well as genomics and bioinformatics of farm animals. Animal Reproduction and Physiology Different aspects of reproduction and physiology of farm animals are covered in this scope including and not limited to physiology of fertilization, early development, growth and lactation. Feed and Nutrition It covers microbiology and function of rumen, ruminants/non-ruminants nutrition, physiology and metabolism related to feeding, forage nutrion and provision, feed and feed additive evaluation, technology of feed processing, poultry and other non-ruminants farm animals nutrition and its physiology. Animal Products It covers technology of post harvest of farm animal products, food safety, food security, functional foods, biology of muscle, product composition, and science of milk, meat and egg. Animal Biotechnology Some aspects of animal biotechnology of farm animals are covered including and not limited to molecular nutrition, transgenetics as well as genes identification and manipulation. Animal Health It includes studies about animal modeling on animal health, infection and immunity, physiology of stress, vaccine and therapeutics of farm animals. Animal Behaviour and Welfare Social and sexual behaviour, adaptation, and welfare of farm animals are included in this topic. Environment, Management, and Socio-Economics It covers topics on management of waste and by-products, livestock and environment, farming system, and socio-agribusiness of animal production.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui tingkat kesejahteraan petani pola pertanian terpadu tanaman hortikultura dan ternak. Metode penelitian adalah survey dengan menggunakan kuisioner. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposif yang mana petani yang dijadikan responden adalah petani yang melakukan pertanian terpadu tanaman hortikultura dan ternak. Hasil penelitian menunjukan Kesejahteraan Objektif : Tingkat Kesejahteraan berdasarkan Indikator BKKBN. Dari indikator kesejahteraan ekonomi tiga per empat petani tanaman hortikultura dan ternak sudah sejahtera 75 %, kurang sejatera 25 %. Kesejahteraan objektif Kesejahteraan berdasarkan garis kemiskinan Biro Pusat Statistik dari pendapatan perkapita Rp 216,606,-. Hal ini masih termasuk kurang sejahtera. Bank Dunia kesejahteraan berdasarkan pendapatan keluarga perhari ; a. 1 US dolar per kapita per hari. b, 2 US dolar per kapita per hari. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan kriteria bank dunia 1 US perkapita perhari 25 % petani tanaman terpadu hortikultura dan ternak miskin atau tidak sejahtera, dan 2 US dolar perkapita perhari 50% petani pertanian terpadu tanaman hortikultura dan ternak miskin atau tidak sejahtera

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui perubahan kandungan protein dan serat kasar kulit nanas setelah difermentasi dengan plain yoghurt. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Makanan Ternak, Fakultas Peternakan, Universitas Jambi. Bahan yang digunakan yaitu kulit nanas sisa pengolahan buah nanas di Desa Tangkit Baru, plain yoghurt dan bahan kimia untuk analisa proksimat. Plain yoghurt yang digunakan mengandung bakteri asam laktat (Lactobacillus bulgaricus dan Streptococcus thermophilus). Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan pola faktorial dengan 2 faktor yaitu faktor A (level yogurt 0, 3, 6, dan 9 ml/kg bahan) dan faktor B (lama fermentasi 24, 48, dan 72 jam). Setiap perlakuan diulang 5 kali. Peubah yang diamati yaitu kandungan bahan kering, protein, dan serat kasar. Data dianalisis ragam dan pengaruh nyata antar perlakuan diuji dengan Uji Jarak Berganda Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa level yogurt tidak nyata (P>0,05) mempengaruhi kandungan bahan kering kulit nanas fermentasi tetapi lama fermentasi berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05). Level yogurt atau lama fermentasi nyata (P<0,05) mempengaruhi kandungan protein, dan serat kasar kulit nanas fermentasi. Kombinasi level yogurt dan lama fermentasi tidak nyata (P>0,05) mempengaruhi kandungan bahan kering, protein, dan serat kasar. Penggunaan yogurt pada 3 ml/kg bahan memberikan hasil yang sama baiknya dengan kontrol dan lama fermentasi selama 24 jam memberikan hasil yang sama dengan fermentasi selama 48 jam. Disimpulkan bahwa terjadi perubahan kandungan protein dan serat kasar kulit nanas yang difermentasi dengan plain yoghurt. Kandungan protein dan serat kasar kulit nanas lebih baik didapatkan pada fermentasi menggunakan 3 ml/kg yogurt selama 24 jam.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan produksi dan kualitas susu Kambing Peranakan Etawah sebagai respons perbaikan kualitas pakan, Penelitian ini menggunakan 12 ekor kambing laktasi dengan rancangan acak kelompok yang terdiri atas 3 perlakuan 4 ulangan. Perlakuan yaitu T1= kontrol (pakan hijauan), T2 = pakan kualitas sedang (hijauan 75% + konsentrat 25%), T2 = pakan kualitas tinggi (hijauan 60% + 40% konsentrat). Pakan diberikan dua kali sehari selama dua bulan pengamatan. Peubah yang diamati adalah produksi susu, kualitas susu dan konsumsi pakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan perbaikan kualitas pakan tidak mempengaruhi konsumsi bahan kering pakan, konsumsi protein, serat kasar, lemak dan BETN dengan rataan berturut-turut untuk bahan kering sebesar 1445.0 gram/ekor/hari, protein 195.0 gram/ekor/hari, serat kasar 246.3 gram/ekor/hari dan BETN 1006.9 gram/ekor/hari. Perlakuan perbaikan pakan meningkatkan produksi susu kambing PE secara nyata (P<0.05) dengan produksi tertinggi pada T3 yaitu 832.78 gram/ekor/hari, diikuti perlakuan T2 sebesar 743.12 gram/ekor/hari dan T1 sebesar 621.34 gram/ekor/hari, Namun tidak mempengaruhi kualitas air susu yaitu berat jenis dengan rataan 1.0285, bahan kering susu 16.43%, lemak susu sebesar 6.83% dan protein susu sebesar 4.57%. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah permberian pakan berkualitas pada kambing Peranakan Etawah saat laktasi dapat meningkatkan produksi susu yang dihasilkan kambing dengan kualitas air susu yang relatif sama dan tidak mempengaruhi konsumsi bahan kering dan nitrien pakan kambing.

Abstract

 The objective of this experiment was to study the characteristics of beef and buffalo meat as raw materials of smoked dendeng and the use of coconut shell. Parameters observed during research were microbiology variables (total plate count, S. aureus, molds). This study was designed using the design of complete randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Nonparametric data of organoleptic tests processed statistically by Kruskal-Wallis method. Parametric data physical, chemical and microbiological variable analyzed by t test (Steel and Torrie 1993). Data processing using the program Statistical Analysis System (SAS) 9.1 and Minitab 15 version. The results of this study indicate that microbiological characteristics of dendeng batokok in this research in general is still quite good until 7 days of storage.  Key words: dendeng batokok, type of meat, coconut shell, characteristic.

Abstract

 The objective of this study was to evaluate the sustainability and the improvement of Apis cerana honey production which was placed at Coffee Plantation. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with two treatments and ten replications. The result of this study was the sustainability index was increase to 76.00 (very good) from 59.50 (good). The other result was the honey production of Apis cerana at coffee plantation was significantly higher by 114% than that outside the plantation and the caffee been productivity was inproved as muach as 10.55%. The integration of honey bee and coffee plantation was able to inprove the farmer general income and change their mind that vegetation (trees) must be saved due to the source of honey bee feed (nectar and pollen). As a conclusion that integrated honeybee and coffee plantation effected on improving of sustainability as well as Apis cerana and coffee bean productivity Key words: Honey, coffee, integration, sustainability, index

Abstract

 This experiment was aimed to investigate the effect of ration containing fish oil and its processed on in vitro rumen fermentation. The protected fatty acid’s was in the form of dried carboxylate salt mixture (DCM). The data were analyzed using a completely randomized design with 2x2 factorial models; feeding trial (non CGKK, with CGKK and with fish oil) as the first factor and rumen liquor as second factor (the origin of buffaloes and cattle). The results showed that no interaction was found between the two factors on all parameters. The supplementation with DCM had significantly higher dry matter and organic matter digestibilities. Rumen NH3 of buffalo was lower compared to those of cattle. It is concluded that DCM supplementation does not disturb rumen fermentation.
