Abstract

The Rumah Betang (Betang House) in the Dayak community in Kalimantan is a legacy of a communal culture. This community life of the local people expresses the high social values, unity, togetherness, peace, religiosity, and morality. In this article the writers attempt to discuss the relationship between Rumah Betang culture and the values of the Catholic faith. First of all, a description of the noble values of the Dayak people is given in the lifestyle in the Rumah Betang. Then, it describes the way of life of the Dayak people who have been baptized into the Catholic Church. The authors show how the noble values of the Rumah Betang culture have in common with the teachings of the Catholic faith, especially the communion of God’s people. In short, the writers believe that the Rumah Betang culture is the entrance for the Church to the very heart of the Dayak community.

Abstract

The article argues that tolak bala, the name ofan important ritual for the Dayak people,is intended to dispel any negative power out of the people and to guarantee the well-being of the community. It is performed every time the people experience the destructive effects of an unidentifed power that make people sick even cause death. Formerly, tolak bala was performed quite regularly. Since the covid-19 has become pandemic worldwide, the traditional ritual of tolak bala has also attracted the concern of the people. The writers try to deal with this new phenomenon based on their Christian faith. They then suggest that the Church should take the tolak bala ritual quite seriously and promote an intense dialogue with Christian faith in such a way that the people would not be dissociated from the True God as the Lord Jesus has taught his disciples.

Abstract

The focus of this study is to discuss the Tungku Cu Marriage, the custom in Manggarai, Flores, in connection to Canon Law of the Catholic Church. The writer argues that Manggarai, as a social community, has invaluable cultural wealth that has shaped their character. One of the riches ofthis local culture is Kawing Tungku Cu (Tungku Cu Marriage). The custom is actually one of various forms of marriage in the Manggaraian society. Kawing Tungku Cu, however, becomes a dilemma when the Church has to deal with it in the light of the canon law. The writer argues that the purpose of every marriage is to continue the offspring and creativity of God himself. This study aims at finding the legal policy of the local Church in dealing with the Kawing Tungku Cu through literature studies and interviews. Finally, the writer suggests that pastoral workers are expected to have certain skills with regard to local culture; to build partnership; and to be able to create a close relationship between anak Rona and anak Wina.

Abstract

This article focuses on The Concept of Sebayatn of Dayak Barai Tribe as a Place After Death in the Perspective of ‘Eternal Life’ of Encyclical Spe Salvi. One of the problems being faced by local churches in West Kalimantan, particularly in the area where the Dayak Barai domicile, namely Kayan downstream, is the tension between Christian teachings and local wisdom values. These two perspectives are often misunderstood by the local community, even the Dayak Barai tribe itself considers the presence of the Catholic Church to threaten existing local Wisdom values. Sebayatn is one of the sensitive concepts discussed among the Dayak Barai tribe, apart from being taboo to talk about, this concept when confronted with the Christian concept of salvation can lead to theological contradictions and beliefs. Therefore, this research was conducted within the framework to ignite a religious discussion between the culture of the Dayak Barai tribe and Christian theology. The finding is that the concept of the place of the dead of the Barai people is not much different from the concept of the world of the dead in Christianity. Abstrak Artikel ini berfokus pada Konsep Suku Dayak Barai Sebayatn sebagai Tempat Setelah Kematian dalam Perspektif Ensiklik ‘Hidup Kekal’ Spe Salvi. Salah satu masalah yang dihadapi oleh gereja-gereja lokal di Kalimantan Barat, khususnya di daerah domisili Dayak Barai, yaitu Kayan di hilir, adalah ketegangan antara ajaran Kristen dan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal. Kedua perspektif ini seringkali disalahartikan oleh masyarakat setempat, bahkan suku Dayak Barai sendiri menganggap kehadiran Gereja Katolik mengancam nilai-nilai kearifan lokal yang ada. Sebayatn merupakan salah satu konsep sensitif yang diperbincangkan di kalangan suku Dayak Barai, selain tabu untuk dibicarakan, konsep ini jika dikonfrontasikan dengan konsep keselamatan Kristen dapat menimbulkan kontradiksi teologis dan kepercayaan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan dalam rangka menyulut diskusi keagamaan antara budaya suku Dayak Barai dengan teologi Kristen. Temuannya, konsep tempat orang mati orang Barai tidak jauh berbeda dengankonsep dunia orang mati dalam agama Kristen.

Abstract

This paper raises the concept of the Godhead of the Tetun tribe as reflected by the mission of the Catholic Church. The concept of Nai Maromak in the culture of the Tetun tribe, which is very animistic, has become the concept of divinity in the Catholic Church, which leads to Jesus Christ. The concept of the Godhead of the Tetun tribe has fundamental similarities with the concept of the Godhead of the Catholic Church. With the mission of the Church up to the cultural life of the Tetun tribe, it can bring together and direct the teachings of the Church on the concept of God. The animist concept of Nai Maromak was brought into contact with the mission of the Church to the concept of God that is recognized by the world in the Catholic Church. The process of this paper is more directed to a reflection on the analysis of the mission of the Church for the cultural phenomenon of the Tetun tribe, especially regarding the concept of God. This reflection of the analysis of the Church’s mission describes the concept of divinity in a culture that is reflected in the view of the teachings of the Catholic Church so that we can find an inculturative concept of divinity. The results of this analytical reflection are very helpful for Tetun people in living the faith of the Church, especially Jesus is Nai Maromak.     Abstrak   Tulisan ini mengangkat mengenai Konsep Ketuhanan suku Tetun yang direfleksi oleh misi Gereja Katolik. Konsep Nai Maromak dalam budaya suku Tetun yang sangat animisme menjadi konsep ketuhanan dalam Gereja Katolik yakni mengarah kepada Yesus Kristus. Konsep ketuhanan budaya suku Tetun mempunyai kesamaan fundamental dengan konsep Ketuhanan agama Katolik. Dengan adanya misi Gereja Katolik sampai pada kehidupan berbudaya Suku Tetun bisa mempertemukan dan mengarahkan kepada ajaran Gereja Katolik mengenai konsep Ketuhanan. Konsep Nai Maromak yang animisme digiring dalam perjumpaan dengan misi Gereja Katolik kepada Konsep Ketuhanan yang diakui dunia dalam Gereja Katolik. Proses tulisan ini lebih mengarah kepada refleksi analisis Misi Gereja Katolik bagi Fenomena Budaya Suku Tetun khususnya mengenai konsep Ketuhanan. Refleksi analisis misi Gereja ini mengurai tentang konsep ketuhanan dalam budaya yang direfleksikan menurut pandangan ajaran Gereja Katolik, sehingga bisa menemukan konsep ketuhanan yang inkulturatif. Hasil dari refleksi analisis ini sangat membantu orangorang Tetun dalam menghayati iman Gereja Katolik khususnya Yesus adalah Nai Maromak. Abstract

Religious moderation becomes a perspective, attitude, and behavior that always takes a middle position, acts fairly, and is not extreme in religion. The purpose of this paper is to find out religious moderation as a way of practicing religious teachings in Indonesia. The study uses the perspective of a phenomenology of religion. How the application of religious teachings is practiced with a moderate perspective to be able to coexist peacefully with other religions so as not to create clashes that can hurt other people who do not share our views and understanding and how the Catholic Church responds to religious moderation in Indonesia. The understanding and behavior of religious moderation offered are expected to be a solution to the problems currently faced by the Indonesian people related to religious issues. The research method used is qualitative approach by conducting a literature study.   Abstrak Moderasi beragama menjadi suatu cara pandang, sikap, dan perilaku yang selalu mengambil posisi di tengah-tengah, bertindak adil, dan tidak ekstrem dalam beragama. Tujuan dari penulisan ini adalah mengetahui moderasi beragama sebagai cara pandang mengamalkan ajaran agama di Indonesia dalam perpektif fenomenologi agama. Bagaimana penerapan ajaran agama diamalkan dengan cara pandang moderat untuk dapat hidup berdampingan secara damai dengan agama-agama lain sehingga tidak menciptakan benturan benturan yang dapat menyakiti orang lain yang tidak sealiran dan sepemahaman dengan kita dan bagaimana Gereja Katolik menyikapi terkait dengan moderasi beragama di Indonesia. Pemahaman dan perilaku moderasi beragama yang ditawarkan diharapkan dapat menjadi solusi atas masalah yang saat ini dihadapi bangsa Indonesia terkait dengan isu agama. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan melakukan studi kepustakaan.   Kata-kata kunci: Moderasi Beragama, Cara Pandang, Moderat, Gereja Katolik.

Abstract

The theme of this article is “Managing the Term of Kafir in Building Human Solidarity and Religious Moderation in Asia”. It focuses on trying to clarify and correct the term kafir (infidel) to build human solidarity and diverse moderation in Asia. This study is based on the research of the terminology, which was supported by Prof. Dr. Armada Riyanto and compared to the 1999 Apostolic Exhortation of the Post Synodal in New Delhi on: “Church in Asia”. The methodology used is a qualitative method with library research. The author also uses other supporters’ books to enrich this writing division. This study found that the term kafir is often used by persons in Indonesia to justify itself and its interests. The findings from this research show: that firstly, the use of the term kafir needs to look at its context and is not properly used in the human relationship of the present time. Secondly, the term kafir revealed in the ‘verdicts’ was born out of the absence of human solidarity. Thirdly, the use of the term kafir against other religions can damage the morality of living together and the potential for it to emerge in a mixed and diverse conflict in society. Thus, the term kafir must enter into the law as conduct contrary to the principle of a common system of living. In this sense, the Church and the Christians are called upon to develop public theology especially the public theology of Nusantara to preserve, treat, and enhance Pancasila values and traditional cultural values for the survival of life which is harmonious, safe, and peaceful. Abstrak Tema artikel ini adalah “Mengelola Terminologi Kafir dalam Membangun Solidaritas Manusia dan Moderasi Beragama di Asia”. Ini berfokus pada upaya untuk mengklarifikasi dan mengoreksi terminologi kafir untuk membangun solidaritas manusia dan moderasi yang beragam di Asia. Kajian ini didasarkan pada penelitian terminologi kafir, yang didukung oleh Prof. Dr. Armada Riyanto dan dibandingkan dengan Anjuran Apostolik Sinodal Post 1999 di New Delhi tentang: “Gereja di Asia”. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan studi pustaka. Penulis juga menggunakan buku-buku pendukung lainnya untuk memperkaya divisi penulisan ini. Studi ini menemukan bahwa terminologi kafir sering digunakan oleh orangorang di Indonesia untuk membenarkan diri dan kepentingannya. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan beberapa hal: pertama, penggunaan istilah kafir perlu melihat konteksnya dan tidak tepat digunakan dalam hubungan manusia masa kini. Kedua, terminologi kafir yang terungkap dalam ‘putusan’ lahir dari ketiadaan solidaritas kemanusiaan. Ketiga, penggunaan istilah kafir terhadap agama lain dapat merusak moralitas hidup bersama dan berpotensi muncul dalam konflik yang beragam dan beragam di masyarakat. Dengan demikian, istilah istilah kafir harus masuk ke dalam hukum sebagai perbuatan yang bertentangan dengan asas tata kehidupan bersama. Dalam pengertian ini, Gereja dan umat Kristiani terpanggil untuk mengembangkan teologi publik khususnya teologi publik Nusantara untuk melestarikan, merawat, dan meningkatkan nilai-nilai Pancasila dan nilai-nilai budaya tradisional demi kelangsungan hidup bersama yang serasi, aman, dan damai. Kata-kata kunci: kafir, solidaritas manusia, moderasi beragama, orang-orang Kristiani.

Abstract

Culture is a place to build theology. This paper tries to explain the theology of togetherness that was built through the julu nuru tradition of the Manggarai community. The methodology used in this paper is a literature study to explore the values of togetherness in the julu nuru tradition in order to build dialogue within the theological framework. The julu nuru tradition is an activity of distributing meat evenly to a certain group. The concept of sharing is the forerunner of the theology of togetherness. The julu nuru tradition presupposes that there is a living situation in togetherness so that a constructive dialogue can be created. The theology of togetherness through the julu nuru culture is the foundation for Indonesian life which emphasizes the spirit of mutual cooperation. The concept of julu nuru can be an inspiration for the Indonesian people to continue to foster the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity in the midst of ethnic, religious, racial, and inter-group diversity. The essence of life is sharing with others. Dialogue means sharing experiences to build the common good together. Budaya adalah salah satu tempat untuk membangun teologi. Tulisan ini mencoba menjelaskan teologi kebersamaan yang dibangun melalui tradisi julu nuru masyarakat Manggarai. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah studi literatur untuk menggali nilai-nilai kebersamaan dalam tradisi julu nuru dalam rangka membangun dialog dalam kerangka teologis. Tradisi julu nuru merupakan kegiatan pembagian daging secara merata kepada kelompok tertentu. Konsep berbagi merupakan cikal bakal teologi kebersamaan. Tradisi julu nuru mengandaikan adanya situasi yang hidup dalam kebersamaan sehingga dapat tercipta dialog yang konstruktif. Teologi kebersamaan melalui budaya julu nuru merupakan landasan kehidupan bangsa Indonesia yang mengedepankan semangat gotong royong. Konsep julu nuru dapat menjadi inspirasi bagi masyarakat Indonesia untuk terus menumbuhkan semangat persaudaraan dan solidaritas di tengah keragaman suku, agama, ras dan antar golongan. Inti dari hidup adalah berbagi dengan orang lain. Dialog berarti berbagi pengalaman untuk membangun kebaikan bersama. Kata-kata kunci: julu nuru, budaya, dialog, kebersamaan, sharing.
