Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to design an insect identification playbook and introduce and directly practice insect identification through this playbook to teachers and elementary school students at Sekolah Alam "Isyo Hills" Kampung Rhepang Muaif, Nimbokrang, Jayapura Papua. The method used in this design begins with the phase of making the playbook material concept, making the design and choosing characters to layout, and the finalization stage for the final result. This design produced a playbook in the form of a books by displaying the discussion of the material insect introduction with coloring activities for insects namely Odonata (dragonflies and damselflies), Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) and Coleoptera (beetles). The next activity is training which is carried out on July 2021, involving 11 students, representatives of elementary school grades 1 to 5 and junior high school from Sekolah Alam ‘’Isyo Hills”. The training provided includes the presentation regarding the introduction of insects through the design of playbook. Furthermore students directly practice the coloring activities for several species examples of insects in the playbook. The training which was conducted for the teacher and students at Sekolah Alam “Isyo Hills” Kampung Rephang Muaif has been going well. The enthusiasm of the participants in participating in this training was very high. This indicates that the training participants have responded positively to the activities that have been carried out. Keywords: training; design of playbook; insect; Rephang Muaif.

Abstract

Cooking oil is not only necessary for frying but also as for flavor additive to the foods. Repeated use of cooking oil (Used Cooking Oil/ UCO) can affects its quality and caused a risk for human health. In addition, UCO could potentially be a contaminant to the environment as well. Therefore, our activity aimed to use the UCO as materials for candle making. We targeted people at the youth age as targeted community and introduce the technology to reuse UCO for candle making. Sharing information and practice was conducted to increase the enthusiasm of participants. At the end of the program, participants were able to make candles and also put some aroma therapy essence into the candle made from UCO. Keyword: aroma therapy; used cooking oil (UCO); candle.

Abstract

Kitchen waste is the result of household activities which include organic and inorganic waste in the form of liquid and solid waste.  Basically, kitchen organic waste can still be used to produce of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC). The material presented in the socialization of this community service activity aims to (1) introduce useful plant species for household needs that can be grown in pots, and (2) provide knowledge on making and using Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) from rice water. Participants of this activity is the members of the Women’s Fellowasip (PW) GKI Getsemani Kotaraja Jayapura.  This training Activity was carried out from 26th of August to 3rd of September 2021, during the COVID 19 pandemic, so the socialization of the material was carried out in the form of online presentations, while practical material was provided via print out material.  Then, the participants practiced making rice water POC and the planted useful plants in pots independently at their respective homes.  Each participant was given a package consisting of compost soil, EM4, flower pots, also flower and plant seeds.  The results of the implementation of this activity showed an increase in the understanding and knowledge of the training participants about useful plant species for household needs and making process of POC, and then being able to use it to fertilize useful plants around the house. Keyword: rice water waste; Liquid Organic Fertilizer; POC; pot gardening; GKI Getsemani Kotaraja; Jayapura.

Abstract

Bananas are a fruit commodity that produces the most in Jayapura Regency. Processing bananas into flour is one way to increase the selling value of banana commodities and increase their utilization into banana derivative products. The aim of the training is to utilize local Papuan food, namely bananas, to increase the economic value of local Papuan food. The training activities provide knowledge and insight to the public regarding banana derivative products, namely flour and preparations made from banana flour to increase economic independence. Local Papuan bananas, such as gray bananas, have the potential to be made into flour and their preparations using simple technology available in the community so that they have the potential to be developed to increase the economic value of local Papuan food. Keyword: banana flour; Papuan local varieties of bananas; processed banana flour; local food.

Abstract

Cultivation of white oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) can be solution of strengthening food security during pandemic Covid–19. However, the procedure for cultivating white oyster mushrooms (P. ostreatus) is unknown due because the limited knowledge, so the purpose of this activity is to provide learning to the community about white oyster mushroom cultivation for the Isyo Hills Birdwatching ecotourism group at Rhepang Muaif Village, Nimbokrang District, Jayapura Regency. The results of the activity showed an increase in public interest in cultivating white oyster mushrooms. As many as 73% of the people of Kampung Repang know that mushrooms can be processed into nutritious food ingredients, even 60% of the people of Kampung Rhepang have processed or cooked mushrooms with a variety of dishes. However, there are 73% of people who have never seen the process of cultivating white oyster mushrooms, therefore there are 93% of people interested in cultivating white oyster mushrooms. Keyword: cultivation; oyster mushroom; Rhepang Muaif; Jayapura.

Abstract

Eco enzymes are versatile liquids made from fermented fruit peels which have many benefits in everyday life. This training is a community service activity that was held on 23 May – 23 August 2022, with the aim of providing practical knowledge about the benefits of eco enzymes and practicing making eco enzymes. As many as 16 women participants who are members of the Christian Women's Fellowship from Wyk 4 GKI Getsemani Kotaraja Jayapura took part in this activity. The method used is participatory socialization and class action accompanied by evaluation. The results of this training showed that the success rate of outreach to participants reached 68.75%, with a final test score of 79.38%. In general, the participants were able to produce their own eco enzyme liquid which had been fermented for three months and experienced its benefits as a multipurpose liquid, namely as a floor cleaning fluid.Keyword: Ecoenzyme; training; GKI Getsemani Kotaraja; Jayapura.

Abstract

Tubers are one of the local foods besides rice and corn which have the potential as alternative food. Processing of tubers in Papua is generally still carried out simply and on small industry likes home industry. Various tuber are usually consumed by local people by boiled, fried, baked, and steamed. Many modern food are made from tuber flour to increase consumer interest. Generally, local people tuber crops are sold without going through modern processing. Low technological innovation and creation of local food causes the low consumer interest to consume various local food products. This activity was carried out with the aim of being GPdI, Blessing congregation, to increase the congregation insight so they interest to increase local food product by increase the nutritional value and selling value of the congregation’s crops in modern packaging. Theoretical and practical methods are carried out with the intention of providing an explanation regarding the processing of tubers in to modern products. The practice was carried out so that the participants could directly make various bakeries made from tubers. During the activity, start to finish, participants were enthusiastic and  were able to produce various bakery produks such as bread, brudel, and brownis cake. Keyword: Tubers; Bakery; GPdI Blessing; Heram

Abstract

Our community service activities were focused on increasing the villager’s awareness on cleanliness. The program was conducted on February to November 2022, which consists of three main activities namely waste and waste management class, decorating rubbish bin and cleaning up trash. It was done by engaging children of Sunday School of Maranatha Church of the village. Waste and waste management class along with decorating rubbish bin was conducted on April 16, 2022. Meanwhile cleaning up trash in the village was conducted on April 23, 2022. The program was started with a pre test and closed with a post test. Children knowledge on waste and waste management was low (N-Gain = 0.11). Mostly, rubbish of the village contains of plastics. It is important to raise awareness and increase villagers’ knowledge on the importance of maintaining a clean and beautiful spot in the village to attract more tourist to this destination.Keyword: Environmental education; Lake Sentani; Tourist destination; Yoboi.

Abstract

One of the implementations of the Merdeka Curriculum is the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). The implementation of P5 at PGRI High School in Jayapura City for grade X students in the 2022-2023 school year carries the theme of Entrepreneurship with a focus on oyster mushroom cultivation. The purpose of this activity is to provide understanding, practice, and business of white oyster mushroom cultivation at PGRI High School in Jayapura City. The methods used include Focus Group Discussion, Participatory Planning and small-scale cultivation practices at the school level. The results of the activity showed that the students were very enthusiastic in participating in the activity, especially during the practice of white oyster mushroom cultivation. After this activity there was an increase in student knowledge about white oyster mushroom by 57.5% and its nutritional content (61%). In addition, the participants also became aware of the economic value of white oyster mushroom. Furthermore, 79.17% of students have understood how to cultivate white oyster mushroom. In general, 87.5% of students were happy to participate in this activity. Moreover, the students have succeeded in cultivating white  oyster mushroom independently with simple technology at school. The white oyster mushroom cultivation activity is very interesting for students to learn entrepreneurship, in accordance with the P5 theme at the school.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out because it was found that teachers' knowledge about assessment was still low. The aim of this activity is (1) to increase teachers' knowledge about learning assessment, (2) to provide provisions for teachers in designing learning assessments. The participants in the activity were 23 teachers from the Sekolah Dasar Negeri Inpres Perumnas I Waena, Jayapura City, totaling 23 people. The methods used are lectures, discussions and questions and answers. To measure the increase in participants' knowledge, a pretest and posttest were carried out, while the success of the activity was determined by giving a questionnaire to all participants. The results of the activity showed that teachers’ assessment knowledge increased after the debriefing was carried out, this was indicated by an average pretest score of 36.65 and an average posttest score of 77.39 and participants gave a positive response to the implementation of the activity.
